I think that the high tax on cigarettes actually makes these people have a less healthy life time because they're more likely to save money on quality, nutritious food in order to afford cigarettes.

So from a public health standpoint I think a sugar tax will do the same. Because sugar is addictive as well. Consumption of unhealthy garbage will remain constant, and consumption for organic produce and unprocessed foods will go down.

I think another good idea would be to end shitty corn subsidies, but I disagree with you, if healthier foods become cheaper than processed garbage it works.

I agree with this, but my point is that sugar is addictive. You get a spike in blood sugar, that then drops and makes you crave more sugar. In that regard, spinach and broccoli can't compete with it, because they're different products. Even here in Europe where we don't have corn syrup, sugar is added into a lot of foods.
