Omniverse was awesome. It really was a good cartoon. It's just that some don't get the old pulp sci-fi references and it confuses them. Thinking and reading is above modern collective america's abilities, after all.
But this new style? Nope. Garbage. You saw the trailer. Now realize that the cartoon is not going to be better than that. It's the lowest level of animation they could get away with. This is a business-released trailer, right? Not something chosen out of a stack of episodes by someone looking for an off-model moment. And likely the lowest level of story they could get out the writers. "There's a problem. Answer? Alien sprays crystal around like a fire hose." A kid's cartoon doesn't have to be Shakespeare, and I'd be willing to overlook a few things if the animation was even half-decent, but this? Scrap it and try again.

I can see the potato-head influence for the 2D bits of the show (almost all of the explicitly 2D characters share the same style as Gumball and his family) though it's definitely not calarts.

People don't learn SHIT in art school. A long time ago classical training was replaced by a movement that art should be events, like crawling through orange crates. Anyone who trains in draughtsmanship, mastering anatomy and perspective, is a retrosexual unreconstituted cryptofascist shitlord according to them.
I think it's a long-running backlash over the abstract artists getting shut down as "degenerate art" by the Nazis, but it's got to the point where they has become the enemy.
I've got a friend who teaches high school art, who has been censured in front of his class by the other teachers for teaching them to be elitists by having skills that make people without skills feel bad. It's turning into Kurt Vonnegut's Harrison Bergeron out there.
It's a malaise afflicting the entire art establishment, I mean, just look how the artfags and arthags will climb right up the ass of anyone who does awful naive outsider art, last exhibition I went to they were ignoring the talented artists, all clustering around a friend who literally fingerpaints stick figures, fellating him like he was some kind of savant.
I remember reading in the forward of a book by a couple who paint fantasy illustrations, that they had to train themselves, they tried art school, but on the first day, everyone was drawing a still life, and the teachers walked around and each stood behind a student, and at a signal, reached around and tore the drawing in two. The head teacher announced, "That is the last life drawing you will ever do!" and the rest of the course was pretending to be acorns growing into trees.
And my friend, the classically trained art teacher? Last time I saw him he was visiting from interstate, they were sending him to teach a class zombie lessons.
He'd never seen a zombie movie of course, so because STANDARDS I got him to sit down and watch the original Day Of The Dead, for Bub the zombie's watershed performance.
Of course it doesn't help that every time a new CGI film comes out, Disney panic and shut down their conventional animation studios. And every few years, when they realise that 2-D animation isn't dead, they realise that they have no great animators left and have to relearn everything, or rehire someone they've probably already screwed over character ownership rights.

So apparently Coealsquid is actually one of the storyboarders on new Ben10.
It's official. The new shows don't look shit because of incompetent artists, or anything like that. They look shit because of a deliberate corporate decision to make them all shit.

Rather than spend their time to master their art, they seek to tear down an entire establishment in order to recreate the idea of art for the purpose of stroking their bloated egos.

They go so far as to ignore the compositions made by skilled artists to avoid facing their own mediocrity. These types of people have realized they are too lazy to accomplish anything of worth, so they decide to bend the rules and support near literal garbage art to elevate their own sense of value.

I question how this will repair their shrinking audience though. Really, they should be comparing their shows to the animations that are posted on Youtube and try to be better than they are. Otherwise, why pay for a cable subscription to watch cartoons that are inferior to the toons you can get online for free?
