The highest IQs fall off the left/right spectrum, either because they meld the positions of left/right (HItler and co.), they obfuscate the spectrum altogether (Ted Kaczynski), or they storm ever onwards in their direction of travel (Julius Evola "the only man to criticize fascism from a more right-wing position", Jonathan Bowden, etc.) and thus can no longer be called simple conservatives, since their position is often so extreme it goes beyond conserving what already exists.
The phrase you'll hear is "low effort thinking" but that's more an indication of efficiency than stupidity. The lower IQ conservatives are usually following instincts that will hold them in good stead, so they won't give them up easily - for example, racism is your brain making a near-instantaneous judgement on your personal safety, because you are seeing something that looks unfamiliar or is associated through experience with danger. For better or worse, this also extends into the realm of trying unusual or foreign things, so the conservative can be resistant to change from the left or the right of them.
As you go up the IQ ladder, you get to people who are capable of more advanced thought and have greater mental capabilities. They therefore begin to question instinctual assumptions, but they still don't have the mental acuity to follow the argument and find out why those instincts must exist in the modern world. These are the majority of leftists (there was a great thread on this the other day…) whose IQs are in the 100-120 range. They are smarter than a redneck but have given up their base nature simply because it is base and primitive - they're smart enough to read that "primitive" is a byword for "stupid". They haven't stopped to think whether that's valid or not.
Finally, you arrive at the gifted and genius IQ ranges. It is as though a quantifiable gap has been crossed and an even higher level of thought is present. Everyone in this range, regardless of political leaning, is capable of constructive debate and will more easily realise when they've been proven wrong. Ergo, their positions go beyond simple "talking point" politics, and you will often encounter people voting for parties that they don't agree with, for many nuanced reasons.
All this is not to say that fascists are inherently smarter, or that smart people are inherently fascist. Mussolini, for example, was no idiot but he was still little more than a clever thug by most standards.
Testosterone also influences conservatism. Which people have the least amount of testosterone? Smarmy college leftists. All this stuff just sorts itself really.

As for your second issue, bring up Singapore under Lee Kwan Yew. Authoritarianism is a broad fucking term to be using, and more accurately he probably is referring to a dictatorship. In which case a nation having a dictatorial system has nothing to do with how specifically the leader will rule and delegate powers, it only describes the fact that the leader holds supreme authority should he use it. A dictator may very well have a judiciary that he either does not oversee directly, or chooses not to intervene with.

To the first point, don't hard counter, point out the self-contradiction with his own ideology.
What I mean: IQ tests show that Black people score lower. If he accepts IQ tests for one, he must accept them for the other. If he tries to bring up "cultural differences", point out that American liberal culture is as foreign to a person on right as white culture is foreign to a black person.
To his second point: all checks and balances are corruptible, no exceptions. If he believes otherwise, he is naive. As soon as a check, balance, or government watchdog is FORMED, that is exactly where the bad actors in government go to start working their bad magic. The only difference with authoritarian governments is that there is no kabuki, no pretense. The power is handed to one person and if they are good, the country prospers, if they are not, the country suffers. Neither system is inherently better.
