Even if television's cartoons are now complete shit with stagnating CalArts face copying Steven Universe visuals, at least film animation is moving forward. It's not perfect, but at least it's progress. And much more than television animation.

You can immitate 2D animation with 3D, it's just that most people are too lazy.
Look at this for example, particularly Olive Oyl and how bendy and fluid she is.
And look at the new Guilty Gear, how it's 3D but so cel-shaded it looks 2D.
