They distrusted the police, took part in crime, regulated what their daughters and sisters wore, became fanatically religious and had general disrespect for the Swedish culture, mainly because they went against the medieval values of the islamist middle east. The old immigrants, being second or third generation no longer felt like they belonged in Sweden. Most of them had relatives that lived in the countries or shared culture with the new immigrants so a lot of them searched for their roots and were easily influenced by the new immigrants who told them that they were also affected by this new hostility which wasn't there before, so they had to pick a side and the rest is history.

It all basically boils down to one side not wanting to adapt, and the other side not wanting to let their culture stand in Sweden, which makes the first side push even harder.
