Consider this: In our society children and adults are not equals. Therefore we treat children better not worse. If their theory was true then people would be beating up on kids everyday because of the power imbalance.

This has more to do with muslim immigration than gender equality. They did an undercover news report in Sweden where a woman put on a burqa with a mic and camera hidden in it and asked imams at different mosques in Stockholm what she should do if her husband hits her. They said it was all permitted according to Sharia.
