Chanology didn't kill 4chan. The facebook raids that took place before popularized Holla Forums and the concept of raiding. As Holla Forums became more politicized, more raids took place, up until a point where people began to be arrested and charged felonies on trumped up charges for simply DDoSing private websites.

The facebook raids were the beginning of the end. As 4chan became more political, it obviously became politically expedient to control its userbase, and thus it died. The moment any group of people get power, the rulers or owners will seek to control them to their own ends.

No, they were probably genuine. Operation Payback was something everybody supported because copyright was, and still is, fucked and corrupt as hell. The problem becomes the owner: If he can be influenced, or gotten to, or simply disagrees with the populist movement, he can either co-opt it or shut it down. Or facilitate the horseshit investigations of law enforcement by "tipping them off".

There is only one way in which movements ended up co-opted, and that would be deleting counter-narrative rallies while keeping the ones that suit your purposes. That's why you suddenly saw 4chan inflate with a bunch of arbitrary rules, all the better to arbitrarily remove posts. Holla Forums was ironically the easiest to kill: It's now all porn all the time, with zero creativity or rage behind it.

The worst thing to ever happen to the body of internet anons is to think they had to care. Now everywhere is pushing this bullshit regressive liberal narrative of social leveling, and everything has gotten worse. You can't even shitpost in Holla Forums anymore. The internet went and began to take itself so seriously that merely annoying someone gets you a ban.

I am inclined to agree. One of the biggest problems Holla Forums had was a growing refusal to assist newfags in assimilating into the culture. One could tell this became a problem when the threads devoted to educating the newfags slowly stopped happening, where once they were a daily (or hourly) thing.

Raids were always a thing though, but aside from that detail I would agree. Chanology finished it off quickly, but it had already been steadily declining as people came in faster than they could be assimilated.

That's what murking loar was for. Even so, in its heyday everyone was always a newfag anyway since you couldn't possibly follow everything all the time. It never really mattered though because when you're anonymous you can make a fool of yourself without any consequences.
