Honestly, if we lived in a universe that provided us instant access to infinite resources and space in which to live I'd have no problem with people engaging in whatever degeneracy they wanted. But we don't live in a universe like that. Resources are hard to get to, hard to process. We feel removed from things in our modern societies, but someone planted every vegetable, slaughtered every animal we eat. Someone gets up every morning and does road construction. People collect trash and maintain sewers and build houses. These don't magically appear for us, a human being has to spend the most precious and valuable resource they have, TIME, in order to accomplish these things for the benefit of society.

Those who don't do this don't have a concept how much work goes into creating a functioning society, and subsist on the scraps offered by society in charity. But just like feeding a seagull or a raccoon or a bear, when the others of its kind see what you're doing, they expect the same treatment. And eventually you run out of bread, and you're surrounded by hungry animals.
