The kids get to watch TV under the supervision of a parent and they only get to watch shows we approve of. If no-one is around to monitor whats going on - I have the router set to kick the firestick off the wifi. By simply getting rid of the advertising and installing kodi, not only do I get a plethora of programs, but watching TV becomes a pull for content rather than having content pushed onto us.

The kids are much better behaved as a result and we get to curate the shows. If it's not educational and agreeable to our morals, it doesn't exist as far as they know.
