Holla Forums related projects don't usually make the news, and when they do they usually don't marking the lugenpresse as well as GG did. I think you're out of your bound of understanding here of the grand scope of things transpired and instead can only dwell on your understanding of meaningful action when the rise of the internet presented much more effective actions that didn't require Holla Forumslacks to directly participate in actions that would mark them for societal outcast. The success of GG was getting normalfags into the know of what Holla Forums has been repeating for close to a decade now and having them participate in it (despite them not driving the vehicle so good, but that's to be expected when you expand projects to involve the masses).

In any case, my particular issues with Gamergate as a movement are as follows:

1) It was oriented around an issue that didn't matter at all. I can hardly think of anything more irrelevant than what the faggots at IGN, Gamespot, or Kotaku write.
2) It had no goals to speak of. It springboarded off the Five Guys scandal which contained an actual incidence of unethical conduct in gaming journalism (ZQ's close ties to the people who evaluated her games and eventually gave them awards), yet the term itself took off after the "Gamers are dead" articles, which were hostile, but not directly unethical.
- 2a) Because the two events were so linked in the origin of the movement, what exactly it was about became incredibly muddied, especially after the outraged gamers became fixated on the personal attack on themselves (which was more vicious than usual but not new) than anything resembling their talking point, "ethics in video games journalism".
- 2b) Because of the lack of clarity within the movement, the plan of action at any given time was split. You had PR fags raising money for bullshit causes usually relating to the very thing they are railing against (feminism) whilst actionfags were trying to choke sites they considered to be enemies by complaining to their advertisers. The result is ineffectual PR stunts (which were obvious PR stunts to any onlooker) coupled with hit piece after hit piece in the media (even when it skirted its way into a brief mention on actual mainstream media) because it turns out they didn't want targeting advertisers because you don't like a product to become a mainstream avenue of protest (turns out their jobs are kind of conditional upon advertising revenue). Most effort at both sides was wasted.
3) Its board served as a landing zone for Reddit to infest Holla Forums in the same way that Holla Forums served as the beachhead of Tumblr's invasion of 4chan (although slightly worse, in that the gamergate board actually had a sticky designed to facilitate redditor migration)
4) It created a class of faggot self-important moderate ecelebs who rent-seek off of attacking the lowest hanging fruit they can see (i.e. Sargon of Cuckold) to appear. These people can be interpreted as an opportunity to redpill, but the fact is they come to such moderate conclusions that the majority of their following don't look any deeper or think for themselves.
5) It's slacktivism. Typing on Twitter or Facebook as it turns out probably doesn't result in real-world political results. If anything it drew attention by the social media platforms to the influence they have over what normies can see (encouraging them to curate their "trends" and news feeds), but honestly that probably would've happened anyway. Still the most pointless bullshit cause it could have happened for.

To that I'll ask you the simple question of "Does Holla Forums have the platform to stain the press before that?" We work with what we are given, not our ideals

You're confusing a flashpoint with a point of origin. 5 guys was about an individual capable of wielding the political power of the media cabal of a smaller media industry despite her not having any overt political hold. GG was the flashpoint that brought people to question how widely the practice of circular referencing and media corruption was.

I'm going to draw this parallel with Poland's involvement in WW2. Victim, aggressor or the cause of an unneeded war all together? By stating the "ethics in video games journalism" part, you're directly buying into the media narrative that this is the only thing people are angry about. We have gone through this, bad business practices, non-competitiveness, plain old corruption and nepotism. Far more than ethics alone.

You're trying to claim that it went bad because normalfags decided to appease (which is basically what normalfags do unless you move the window, which was firmly at the left during GG). Again you're speaking from ideals. However, I for one actual welcomed the hit pieces and the mainstream media mentions. With every hit, they separate the consciousness of gamers from the mainstream perception. The gamer demographic itself is pretty much a behemoth so huge they generate more revenue any other media annually. The average gamer in the US is now 30 years old. A ripe age to get politically active and committed. A ripe age to have kids. A ripe age to teach said kids what is what in the world. A perfect chance to undo the leftist grip on society. Wasted effort? I think not.

My point is still that you're speaking from idealism and you're discounting what immediate and long term effects a small event such as GG, shirtgate, sad puppies had on the paradigm shift we're seeing this year.

I meant to imply that having normies participate in GG had at least stemmed the tide towards leftism instead of having the public 'opinion' (lugenpresse, silent majority I know, but if the silent majority doesn't do anything about it they might as well don't exist) recklessly crashing into the left as it did since Obama became president.
