Danzig wa a 96% German city that was originally part of the German Reich until it was arbitarily landlocked in Poland under the Treaty of Versailles' new border mappings. That was a German city which wanted to be part of Germany, and Hitler made numerous reasonable proposals to re-join it with Germany but the western democracies kept urging Poland to stonewall all negotiations. Eventually the animosity came to a head on August 24th when Poland imposed a blockade on Danzig where food couldn't be brought into the city. Despite frantic attempts at negotiation, no headway could be made and Hitler was forced to invade Poland on Sept 1 to liberate the Danzig Germans.

Take note that the USSR also invaded Poland in September and the western democracies didn't declare war on them but allied with them to crush Germany. The entire war was a unified attempt to crush a European nation trying to unshackle themselves from jewish slavery.
