Third generation American-Lithuanian. despair is in our blood,, it just swallows up some of us. My family tree has lots of suicides hanging from it.

So was Russia, the difference is the national character which makes up the bases of our societies. Most of our folk songs are depressing, our most famous poets wrote mostly depressing stuff, etc. This sort of thought makes up the basis of our minds.
Although the biggest issue is that our government fucks us up the butt so much it's impossible to survive. Pay is extremely small, pensions nearly non-existent and when half your family is old and can not work, nearly one foot in the grave you are forced to take care of them with your miniscule pay which some don't even have. Those who are less patriotic leave for work, those that stay usually end up like that.
