The nukes fail to detonate in any major cities outside of the continent of Africa, but Africa itself is left a wasteland. The war is called to an end because the land is unihabitable and dangerous to get material from, and also the war itself cost too much resources with little to no return.
Meanwhile in the ethno state that was dicussed earlier, the group of people uncovers a secret technology probably being developed by the nazis or used by aliens or something- basically a "tech tree" alternative to our own type of technology is discovered. It's decades ahead of even the most cutting edge combat tech possessed by the western states.
