Even if one wanted to "practice" the science of the occult (aka magic), then intensive study should be done first, at least if you give any credence to the claims they make. The line between metaphor/allegory and real ritual/dogma becomes very blurry in places, and should be left to judgment. Tbh, if people were to simply go into this via rituals, it either becomes LARPing very fast (most cases), or deranged faggotry (think Aleister Crowley). One thing many of these such mystery schools/traditions (at least of antiquity) would advocate is that before such things are undertaken, if at all, self-mastery must be pursued, and intensive study is a major part of that.

Ultimately, however, to fully understand these things requires one to think for themselves. In a sense, it is experienced, not via ritual, but via insight.
