Krita 3.0 released

krita.org/item/krita-3-0-released/

Seems like they plan on continuing to use AppImage for distro agnostic distribution in addition to a Snappy build.

KIKI RULE-34 NOW

Well, that was fast... Here's what we have so far.

Whoops! Forgot to set spoilers. Mods pleas spoiler.

Why does every board have at least 1 /furry/ thread

...

KRITAFAGS BTFO

You mean OSX fags... 'cause the other versions are fine, it's just Apple has ripped out some OGLv3 support for their Metal api.

/furry/ please leave

How hard can it be to make a move tool that moves whatever layer you click on the canvas, and without having to wait 8 years for it to slowly slide across the screen? For fuck's sake. For all the advanced features Krita has, it's unbelievable it still has problems like this.

Since text tool seems to be next on their list of major revamps, the only 2 things I need before I can finally say goodbye to photoshop are some kind of smart layers that you can transform non-destructively, and better transform tools. The liquify transform has a weird bug that causes it to bulge sideways as soon as you click it, and the warp transform is very limited in it's controls even though you'd imagine it would be relatively trivial to give it proper bezier controls.

But you can set the move tool to only affect the current layer.
Not sure what the lag is about.
It works just fine with a core 2 duo on 4k resolutions.

The Windows version generally seems to have more lag for whatever reason.

You can, but you can't do both.

If you enable instant preview the lag gets reduced significantly, but then the layer "hitboxes" gets fucked when you move a bunch of layers around. If you disable it, the lag is back because it renders a bunch of frames of movement before settling where you lifted the cursor.

Small layers are fine, but layers around 2000-4000 pixels wide are very slow.

What does layer hitboxes get fucked mean?
I'm trying to reproduce it.

...

Oh now I get it.

3.0 finally released and its fucking solid as hell. only problem is the layer options have very slow performance. that needs some gpu acceleration asap. love this fucking program.

Holy shit this is awesome.

Moving layers seems broken as hell, it freezes for a couple seconds whenever I try to move a layer, and it even crashed once. Other than that it feels much better than before.

Instant preview gives a ridiculous improvement for large brushes, but it seems to be fucked with normal (i.e. not large) brushes, because it freezes after every stroke to render it. It's also hard to undo big brush strokes with it.

You can set instant preview for individual brush presets.
Personally I just disable it unless I'm coloring and shading.

Because this site was grown from the repressed furry populace on 4chan

Really?

No, it's just that we don't give a fuck if something is furry or not. 4chan is autistic as hell about this for reasons they don't even know.

This appimage shit literally saved me from having to switch away from Slackware.
I don't care how buggy it might be or anything. I was sick of only having mypaint for my scrawlings.

Nah, it's good.

anyway to get krita without installing all of kde?

Because 4chan was filled with the internet's rejects, and cripplechan is filled with 4chan's rejects

Isn't it supposed to be more modular now?

yeah, you don't need to "install all of kde", fucking kek

...

don't laugh, you really did have to just last year.

Practice then, do it for Krita

You mean Kiki?

Any good tutorials for someone who never worked with drawing software? The one on their website reads as if it was written in between street shitting sessions.

appimage

Well now I'm embarrassed.

This is why I'm puzzled why some anons here are so against AppImage and Flatpak (I understand Snappy, because it's more NIH from Canonical).
It's not like these are going to replace package managers, but there are cases where they are very useful in various cases.

*Forgot to change the first "cases" to 'times'.

Tutorials? As in "how do layers work"-tier tutorial?

She's actually kinda cute withuot the flower eyes.

Do it user. Do it for her.

Oh, the things I'd do for her...

my dick can't handle this!!!

...

ew

Well, I know about image editing, so I know that layers stack on top of each other, but if there is anything beyond that, then I don't know.

I bet most layers and layer effects are the exact same as in PS or even manga studio. Blending, stacking and maybe masking are the same as in PS, I know that one for sure.

please user there are so many other drawings of kiki out there

If you know how to read the UI and stuff, then I don't know what kind of tutorial would be necessary. Drag a bunch of images onto the canvas and start experimenting.

You just have to explore, go to Settings > Dockers and see what kind of things you can find. Click the [+] icon in the layers docker and see what different layers are like (especially filter layers). Try every tool in the toolbar and see what they do, and make sure you have the tool settings docker opened. Brush is the most important tool, there's a whole window for it's settings, although many of them require a graphics tablet to work.

Yeah, I just grabbed whatever was in the two Holla Forums threads and it was barely enough. Was too lazy to look for more.

bump

Here you go.

No time to color today.

I'm gonna do a lot more than just draw with you, qt ;^)

*whips out tablet pen*

...

Be sure to post it when/if you do.

FURRIES MAY NOW MOVE ABOUT THE CABIN FREELY

Ossum!
:3

Seriously, why are so many people here have to sperg out and cry "FURRY" whenever they see Kiki? The other FLOSS mascots never seem to trigger this shit.

Because nobody wants anal with the GNU?

Free-software, DRM-free GNU furry VR anal when? Come on, it's 2016 for chrissakes.

Why is kiki's design so inconsistent

There's even inconsistencies within a single picture (the animation one), just compare the flower thing on her head

TysonTan gives her a re-work for every new version of Krita. OP's image is for version 3.0.

Awesome, just downloaded the newest version. Thanks, OP!

You can toss a few things together in Blender and make VR porn with furry models right now but their game engine is focused on low end 2d games.

There a good place to look for Blender lewds?

So, this thread has been up for a while now, and nobodies posted any new Kiki R34... Am very disappointed.

P-please stop. It's too cute.

Fuck. I mean, I didn't draw very great to begin with, but now I feel worst about my drawing.
Seeing Krita on my computer brings me the urge to draw again, but I'm really not sure how to go about practicing.

Do you still require KDE stuff for it?

Also you'd better take responsibility for your creation and colour it.

How good is Krita for mango editing? I recall the text tool was supposed to be fixed at some point in the version 3 series. I'm not very experienced (I've only used GIMP but since my work was bad I never uploaded it anywhere) but I'd like to try getting back at it.

Krita is for from-scratch drawing. GIMP is actually what you want. The clone tool and eraser in particular.

this is why I don't browse krita threads anywhere but home

mods don't even spoiler the smut on a SFW board

CLEARLY SOME PEOPLE HAVE FORGOTTEN THAT FURRIES = DRAMA

Define "mango editing"

Yeah it sucks donkey balls at the moment, but they have a kickstarter right now to fund a better one (it's already reached the goal I think).

What's wrong with Krita's clone and eraser?

I just remembered that Krita has "transform masks", and holy shit these are cool. It's arguably even better than smart layers in some ways.

This was one of my biggest obstacles with Krita, because I do that thing a lot where I paste a bunch of images of highly varying sizes together and arrange/warp them in some ways, and I need it to be non-destructive.

With extensive filter layers (e.g. blur) and super advanced brush system and stackable clip groups and transform masks Krita has actual advantages over Photoshop. After they update the Text tool and fix all the current bugs and shit, I'm going to be really short on reasons to use Photoshop instead of Krita for all personal purposes. The only remaining big problem is the fact that Krita is kinda slow on some operations, but that doesn't prevent me from doing anything.

Finally got around to finishing it.

Gud job!

The new version is much more modular. You could also download the AppImage if you don't want any extra stuff installed to your system.

At some point you are going to have to stop being so triggered by Kiki.

Very nice work user!

Whoops... Grabbed the wrong image. I suppose it goes without saying I saved it.

Here's the one I meant to post.

user I barely come in these threads because I can't into art

that said I like the lewds, but I can't come to these threads in the public library and actuallt read the articles because people are careless with spoilers

a.cocaine.ninja/irnrqu.kra

This is now open source art :^^)

Except for the text, which was made in filthy Photoshop because using Krita's current text tool is like fisting yourself with a cactus.

Sorry about that. I posted them without spoilers on accident, but there is nothing I can do if they mods don't want to add spoilers.

Could you make it official and slap a CC license onto it?

How would I do that?

wiki.creativecommons.org/wiki/Marking_your_work_with_a_CC_license#Example:_Image

cute as fuck dude

I wanna fuck that Kiki

Agreed. I thought I was the only one too.

It's mostly FUD, because some people think they're being made as a replacement for package managers. It certainly would be hell if they were to replace them entirely, but for things like using Krita outside of KDE, they're a very easy and effective solution.

Remember though, not all CC licenses are free. But as long as you avoid the ones with the ND (no derivatives) and NC (non-commercial) clauses, it should be freedom respecting.

They would also be great for things like Blender and OBS; especially if you prefer to stick to LTS releases.

So she's evolving...

Just begin user.
then dont' stop, THAT's the key

You should send that to the Krita team and ask them to put it on the 'about' dialog ehh.

Cool. So when are they planning on revamping the Text tool user?

It's hard to discern, but sounds like it'll be what they'll work on next and aim to get it done in 2016.

kickstarter.com/projects/krita/krita-2016-lets-make-text-and-vector-art-awesome

cute kiki

Cool thanks user. Glad to see they made the goal. The new version is in Arch extra and installs and runs like a breeze. Very impressive FOSS DCC software for Linux!

MAKE TEXT GREAT AGAIN

lol that wasn't the file I expected..

So downloaded the appimage. It opens fine. But how do I make .kra images actually open with it, without first having to open Krita?

woah

find a .kra and right click then open with and select Krita as the default. After that it should all be fine.

One of the current downsides to AppImages is that they do not integrate with your system (yet). So, you'll have to open Krita then select the file.

(I do use appimage).

I think you just need krita.desktop in proper place.

It'd make no sense though because you'd already have installed Krita to see it.

Beautiful, I'll try it out.

Good point. Maybe ask them to put it on an installation dialog?
Oh well cute work anyway. Just submit it to them. They are advertising that they are going to put out 3'000 euros cash to artists.

Oh hell this is new, how do these things work? Can they even on Debian Jessie?

From what I understand, it basically mounts the binary and dependencies in /tmp, and runs it.

Don't see why not. Try it?

Oh I got it, it literally just needed to be made executable and then it just works. That's really cool!

Now if we can get the major package managers to integrate them somehow.

It's spoilered now. Can you report it next time? We can't read all posts.

Everyone assumes that someone else surely already reported it.

my post is this one

I had assumed by that point that someone had reported it to you guys

That was my mistake and I will report it in the future, at home

>>>/gaschamber/
>>>/furry/

>>>/anywherebuthere/

go back to pol, retard.

Make me.

You're just begging for a porn dump aren't you?
Anyone got that cringy scat comic with vanilla in it?

Or we could just use more Kiki lewds,

is there a way to delete default bushes in krita like you can in photoshop?

What does Holla Forums have to do with that post? Are de ebil natsies holocausting you again?

Holla Forums tends to be the board that spergs out the most about that sort of thing (and did you miss where he was directing the user to go?).

...

Any reasons Krita>Paint Tool Sai

At this point, it almost comes down to which one better suits your workflow. Krita still has a couple rough edges (then again, so does SAI), but the development has become amazingly rapid since they started doing heir Kickstarters.

He's just stupid like that

You're so fucking pozzed I'm surprised you're still alive

How do you delete krita brush presets?

Click the trash can?

I didn't say Uncle Pol was evil; I said he's autistic.

...

So has there been any fix to Krita's god awful text tool? I hate having to do text in another program.

The tide is starting to turn against your progressive SJW shit. It's hilarious when you fucks go run around crying about how Holla Forums is leaking and shit. No, not everyone who disagrees with you is a Holla Forumstard stormfag. Many normal people who are political moderate or even politically left of center want to see your progressive cancer be removed.

I fucking hate Holla Forums and think they're almost as bad as you fuckers, but if I had to choose to get rid of only one of you, I'd choose to eliminate the SJWs.

Its just shills trying to take advantage of Summerfags who aren't here the rest of the year to latch memes onto them

That appears to be one of the next things they plan on working on.

lel

You do realise that the images that ( ) and , ( ) are talking about are completely different right?
Sage because off topic.

protip: put udisks:2 in package.provided

Come to think of it, does anyone know if Kiki is free to use (either CC or public domain)? She ought to be, since she's the mascot for a FLOSS project.

According to this the steam boxart is CC-BY-SA 3.0 so yes. commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Krita_steam_boxart_Feb_2014.png

I'll be sure to use her a lot :^)

Thanks user. I suppose it's up to TysonTan, how he licenses his individual works, but the character seems free to use.

Kiki in SupertuxKart when?

I see nothing wrong with the text tool. It seems just as good (or shitty) as gimp's text tools. Could you show what a decent text tool looks like?

They are basically .dmg files for GNU/Linux.

It's really stupid, but you have to execute "chmod a+x filename_goes_here.appimage" first.

Why in god's name do they ship without the executable bit being set? Who knows.

It's probably because your browser downloads all files with that bit not set?
Maybe if they packaged it in a zip or something?

Or in most Desktops, you could just right-click and set it as executable.

I don't think that's it, I can download other executables.

That works too.

Yeah I already figured it out. I was actually expecting it to need a special loader originally.

They can't.

Didn't think ZIP could store that. tarballs can. I'd say it'd be more sensible for .appimage files to prompt whether to execute or not by the DE, or something.

zip can store that, but in some extra field that isn't especially meant for that.

You've got to be joking.

The text gets stuck as vector graphic and is difficult/clumsy/impossible to modify again, the text gets stuck as highlighted even when you switch layers if you edit the text while some of it is highlighted, the text appears glitchy and completely fucked up at times, you can't zoom in/out while editing text, the box the text is in is glitchy and sometimes disappears and can't be resized, keyboard shortcuts don't work as expected (e.g. ctrl+a), the buttons in the tool options are invisible...

Would you prefer the tool function more like the one in Photoshop or SAI?

I don't know how it works in SAI.

Does Appimage have much of a future with Flatpak and Snappy around though?

the one in gimp :^)
