Assuming that body modification technologies continue to advance, it's not unreasonable to conclude that eventually the human species would fragment itself greatly. Deliberate genetic modification may not necessarily be a prerequisite for successful colonization, but the advantages of such a policy are many. There will also be furries trying to become their animals, and weaboos making catgirls. They might even go to their own respective planets to do so.

The AIs only start attacking you if your fleet is significantly weaker than theirs. Start over again, and this time, put more focus on building dozens and dozens of corvettes, with all the Evasion buffs you can give them.
