>classic vidya gets a remaster>soulful and varied original soundtrack is replaced by generic ebin orchestral music in every part of the game
>>600902956His music in the new Bladerunner was so bad. Actual disgrace compared to Vangelis (RIP)
I dunno, I liked Interstellar. And Dunkirk's was really good at setting a tone. Other than that, I don't care for the rest of his work, and he definitely set the worst trend ever for trailers and soundtracks since Inception.
>>600902956I liked his score for Interstellar. I wouldn't have thought of an Organ when looking for an instrument to capture the feeling of space, but man does it do the job excellently.
>>600903284>John Williams and Danny ElfmanThese guys do the soundtrack equivalent of pop music. It's all in your face and on the nose. It's only liked by retards. If they were composing operas that would be one thing but they're doing film soundtracks. It shouldn't be so obnoxious.
>>600903284not like he cares. zimmer doesn't touch an instrument in years, but he has an army of ghost writers and composers that follow the ipse dixit philosophy. most of what people claimed he made didn't even flew on his mind in the first place.

>>600902956He's really good when he's let off the leash. A lot of the time, though, he gets taken on for name power and is then directed to just make the most generic soundtrack.
>>600905701>I think is iconic to the game and everyone remembers itYou're right. I actually played Crysis 2 and I don't remember anything about the game except for there being some controversy about tessellation and the main theme Hans Zimmer did. I genuinely mean that. I don't remember a single thing that happens in the game. I don't remember the plot. I don't remember any characters. But I still remember the theme.

They're not even on the same level of quality, the OG fucking mogs the remake. This is from the first area. Notice how the original is trying to actually paint some kind of an atmosphere using industrial electronic, befitting of 1998 and the technological revolution we were going through, the dark future of hyper advanced warfare beyond our imagining just around the corner, while the remake is content to be an ambient piece you're barely gonna notice while playing.youtube.com

>>600903471Nobody said Zimmer's music wasn't great. The problem is that everybody wants to use le ebin orchestral music for everything because of how successful his music is. It's like how literally everyone makes 3D games now and completely ignores other styles. The OST should go well with the game, that's the only requirement. And for video games, I'd mich rather have a variety of chiptune, lofi samples, FM, and orchestral instead of just Hans Zimmer for everything.

I just played Aliens: Fireteam Elite (very short campaign and shit matchmaking, if you have friends or just are a big Aliens fan it's a good game to get on sale only) and the soundtrack was great orchestral stuff. It complimented the setting great, from some more fast paced stuff to sort of brooding mysterious/ominous stuff as you explore ruins etc. First time in a good while I've noticed and actually kind of listened to the ambient background music adding to the kino

>>600906476Also Dominions, where it went from hurdy-gurdy and lutes to generic orchestral synths
Why does so much music sound generic these days?Is it really so hard for a trained musician to compose a catchy melody or something that specifically fits the tone of a scene?
>music by Hideyuki Fukawasa
>>600946949for popular music, record companies explicitly try to aim for homogenized sound when it's proven to sell and they want radio air time/as many platinum singles as possiblefor movies, the big blockbusters usually have little interest in putting together a cohesive art piece and (more importantly) are re-shot and heavily edited so many times that it's impossible for a composer to try to make something that fits the tone of a given scenefor video games i dunno orchestra i guess
>>600939123you can tell when someone has no soul
>>600946949most people have never been creative geniuses
>>600946949For orchestral film/game music it's a variety of factors:- declining interest in classical music so there are fewer composers and consequently fewer exceptional composers- digital composing tools and the mentality that a score shouldn't be "intrusive" push composers towards generic string & brass solutions with low complexity and low variation- corporate driven homogenisation of music and aversion to taking risks with "untested" ideas- synthesized flutes sound like shit so no one ever uses them, and it's harder to find skilled woodwind players when recording- spectacle excess, sometimes the problem is just making the instrumentation too dense when cutting out some sections would improve musical clarity
