Fork it. There's plenty that could be done too such as porting Libreboot to more hardware that shares similar components. For example, I recall reading somewhere that they were trying to port it to the Dell Optiplex 755 for example, which is a desktop that can be found for next to nothing on the used market, and can accept a C2Q even.

Plus, Libreboot's a distribution of Coreboot. Forking it could be good in case more cancer infects the project such as CoCs, rewritten documentation, or booting out people for thoughtcrime.

This is incorrect, or at least it's misleading in terms of chronology.

Let's start from the beginning. LinuxBIOS was a project started sometime around Y2K at Los Alamos National Lab. The idea was to provide just-enough setup to be able to kexec a linux kernel.

The project existed and progressed without commercial support until sometime around 2010 (not too sure of this date, honestly) when the core devs were brought-on by Google because they needed a team to develop a bootloader for signed code for their upcoming chromebooks. Somewhere in-between that, they changed their name from LinuxBIOS to Coreboot, because they shifted from just wanting to kexec a linux kernel to chainloading some kind of arbitrary payload.

Cut to today, most of the people contributing to Coreboot are Google employees, with a couple of Intel/AMD employees and independent contractors in the mix. It's a really small community of extremely intelligent people.

So where does Libreboot come along?

All of the GM45 deblobbing was done by coreboot contributors, without any semblance of a desire to fork their incredibly small community over philosophical Stallman-esque bullshit, but instead because they have dedicated their lives to creating an open source BIOS. The "deblobbing" was moreso just an effect of putting coreboot on the damn thing. This was before there was any kind of firmware support package or anything like that. They figured out how to rip out the important option roms, and they put coreboot on it. Then they figured out that a lot of it wasn't even necessary.

Libreboot supports a couple other chipsets besides GM45-- some ARM chromebook and an AMD server board, I think. Those was *also* deblobbed by people who are more closely affiliated with coreboot.

What does Libreboot really do? Not much! They host rebranded coreboot builds on their website and they provide instructions on how to flash them. They haven't upstreamed anything useful AFAIK. Not even their (great) fucking documentation! Have you ever looked at the coreboot docs? They're crumbling!

But Libreboot can't be bothered to even upstream those instructions to the coreboot wiki. It's shameful, honestly. Leah split a small community for the sake of FSF compliance, and Leah makes a living from selling those machines.
