The swedish police force is not as much a police force as a political chess piece. The chief of police is some non-police guy that was fired from another government authority for being incompetent and deleting emails from the server, thus killing an ongoing investigation about his misconduct. So the chief of police is of no help.

The police organisation itself has been restructured and reorganized so many times that veterans have left due to frustration. One can change desks several times a year, for example. The police officers themselves have to write their own reports, instead of having administrators do it, so they spend a ton of time behind a desk instead of in the field.

The pay is about … what? 22-25000 SEK a month, which is /8 for USD. That's not entirely dissimilar to working in retail. IT and building jobs (electrician, carpentry, etc) start at about 30k SEK. So the pay is nothing to write home about.

Regarding policing skills: they have very few and are getting worse at whatever little they actually do. Since women have been introduced into the force the standards have gone down and the police have become even more useless at anything more violent than traffic crimes. The only time normal swedes come into contact with the police nowadays are traffic stops where, strangely enough, the police are completely competent at fining you for speeding a few km/h over the limit.

Generally there is lack of trust in the police amongst those more active in society, while old and naive people still think that the police are doing OK. Personally? The police force is a joke and is getting worse by the day. They do the bidding of their incompetent masters and are an enemy of the people.
