One of my roommates i live with cams 24/7, is there anyway i can discretely access what shes doing and save it to my computer? Will reward if so
Be more specific. Whore cam? Security cam? If whore cam, use small microboard with linux to record too card. No one will know how to access it, and nothing is playing while it's recording.
I have a pre-built gaming laptop with a built-in camera/mic. Is it worth trying to make my laptop secure with Qubes/Whonix/I2P/etc or should I just sell it and buy computer parts with open-source firmware? I'm more concerned with my security over the Internet rather than someone who has physical access to my computer.
Also, what is the security risk of other hardware that has closed-source firmware (like routers, external hard drives, or even just headphones)?
Reposting from last thread.
Quick question: Which is the most "install and forget" Linux distro I could install for my parents? I don't need any ricing or fancy tools, just something that comes with all the useful programs. And they need some program to organize a lot of photos, something similar to iPhoto from Apple.
Why do so many people recommend having three different partitions for a Linux install? I keep reading that I should have a partition for my swapfile (useless when I have SSD and lots of RAM), a partition for root (what, just my programs? I don't get it), and a partition for home (all my files and shit). This just seems totally pointless. I want to just make one big root partition and deal with that directly. I'll be fine if I do this right?
It just depends on your threat model faggot. If you're just torrenting movies and kinky porn, any Linux distro will ask you to encrypt upon installation. Then just buy a VPN, and if you're extra paranoid, use TOR or i2p while you're SSHd through the VPN. The copyright legal teams won't get you, and your ISP will be unaware of your taste in farts/diapers/tentacles.
If your threat model is some Fed honeytrap, your hardware is unlikely to betray you, but you'll want to be really scrupulous about browsing without flash or js, and the above precautions apply. Look into hidden partitions, dead man's switch, using public wifi and shit like that. However, the major thing that gets people in the end is laziness with usernames, registration emails, or just plain blabbing about their personal life.
If your threat model is active monitoring from the Feds, NSA, Mossad, etc. then good luck fucker. Just don't use the internet if that's the case. That's why OBL always lugged a bunch of books everywhere he went.
one that's familiar to them and looks like windows. IE something with KDE. Just make sure their hardware has good compatibility and they have the appropriate software installed. you don't want shit fucking up on them constantly.
i've got my root and my home separated so i can quickly reinstall without having to backup all my stuff
i didn't want to compete with my system for HD space and if a single partition or section of the disk fucks up, theoretically it should be easier and faster to recover just a portion of your drive rather than the whole
its just nicer having everything separated
theres probably better reasons to do this though
you might want to have different partition types on each partition
theres nothing stopping you from doing this
if you have plenty of RAM and manage it properly and don't need to hibernate then you shouldn't need a swap
however if you notice things running slowly, like mouse jittering programs closing randomly and weird HD access
then you should make a swap partition, the linux kernel is absolutely retarded with memory and swap
there is this weird bug that can cause slowdowns and hard drive access even when you don't have a swap when it runs out of memory
having a swap partition helps but doesn't prevent it from happening, maybe its my shitty hardware, who knows
from what i've read on forums and stuff its because the kernel is swapping out important things it shouldn't and it then has to unswap them, something like that
Hahaha what the fuck? My Mint installation is completely encrypted, yet Suse refuses to encrypt root? This is aimed at professionals? Damn, I wanted to try out YAST, but evidently this feature is missing and has been missing for years (lizards.opensuse.org
I tried Manjaro KDE and desktop looks OK, but the software is nothing like that. It's like a friend saying "I should introduce you to her" and then it turns out to be a tranny. I'm going to try out ElementaryOS, is that usable or is it just a shiny meme?
I'm using debian stable at the moment, and everything was fine, until I discovered that current version of Pinta is totally fucked up (copying stuff doesn't work half the time) so I wanted a newer version. However, I'm told everywhere that I shouldn't use packages from other debian versions, though I can use backports. But apparently there is no package for more recent pinta. (btw, pinta is 1.3-3 on debian stable, though 1.6 has been released already)
I'm having comparable problems with getting the latest python etc.
So I've been thinking about switching distros, but I can't really find anything I like. I want something stable, but which allows me to install whatever version I want at my own risk, and which has a lot of support.
I used to use arch but arch is too unstable for me, the last GTK package broke all the menus in emacs ffs.
Fedora seems nice but I heard it's quite broken and it's one of these commie-tier free software distros where it's free software only.
I'm seriously considering switching to win 7 again. It's fucking botnet and has zero-customization, but at least I can install whatever the fuck I want.
Are there any distros I might want to try? I just want my shit to work.
theres nothing stopping you from using repos from different versions of debian or even different debian based distros
its just unsupported so you're the one that has to clean it up if it dies
you probably want debian testing
i've got 1.6-2 in the repo
you can just add the testing repo to your sources.list and update what you need, just be careful, you'll probably need to update libc6 and doing that could temporarily break a few things
If I try to upgrade pinta to 1.6-2 it want me to replace numerous packages, including libc. I suppose that's not really a good move?
If you want up-to-date software on Debian stable you have to install from source. As for a distro you descrbed, Void and Gentoo come to mind.
Why the shit is there no MPC for linux? How am I supposed to use all the good codecs now? I just don't like VLC in general either.
granpa bought lenovo netbook, asked me to install XP and stuff on it but on their pages only supported drivers are for 7 and onwards.
yes im tech illiterate
it's fine upgrading it, just be prepared for everything else to want to upgrade as well
you might have some issues with things wanting a different version, it shouldn't be a problem but is always a risk
have you tried compiling from source?
but with gentoo everything is such a pain. I've been thinking about OpenSUSE Tumbleweed though
Might as well go for Debian testing then.
ffmpeg -ss 04:24 -i video.mkv -t 00:00.30 -vf scale=640x360 -loop 1 -an image.apng
cyka bylat
it doesnt loop
see pic related
that doesn't have a high quality guide for retards like MPC does though
Alright I have some weird bug at palemoon. inb4 I have to switch
On all boards except Holla Forums I can filter post, does anybody have any clue how this is the case?
MPV is the best player on GNU/Linux.
Short answer: yes, a XP theme could help the transation a little bit.
Longer answer: if you know some one who is good at coding they could try and reverse egineer the drivers so that they will work for XP. But this is likely to be modetrately resource intensive.
The man page is your friend.
whats the best freedom browser that a stupid user can use? chromium?
wtf a new thread? What happened to the old one?
Install Windows 7 with XP mode, it'll run Windows XP inside the Virtual PC hypervisor, and should be compatible with 99% of Windows XP software:

I'm looking to buy an old IBM computer case (or broken computer) to retrofit it, something from the 90s or early 00s, black and preferably with the old, blue IBM logo, any tips about how to look for one, or where to look for one apart from ebay?
I will help you if you help me.
How did you do that big writing, are you a mod?
MPV PLAYER IS DOGSHIT, IT WILL NOT PLAY MY WEBMS AND MKV VIDEOS
PLUS IT HAS NO FUCKING CONTROL BAR, I SCROLL BUT NO BAR APPEARS AND I HAVE TO USE THE FUCKING KEYBOARD
VLC is shit-tier look but it is the only player that will work webms for me.
...
mpv have a scrollbar, but it can be disabled when you compile (or on cli) it. Check the man of it. Anyway i like VLC too, because it uses hw acceleration (if possible) out of the box. With mpv i may need something more advanced (bomi, smplayer?) than a modified config file.
I did not compile it, I installed it from the terminal and it will not play muh webms!
My version that I installed through the mint software manager plays mkv
just tested with webm and that works too
What media players for Android support OGG metadata?
I realized that I must have plebeian ears because I could not reliably win blind tests with 96k Opus, so I figured I might as well use that to cram my whole music library onto my phone.
But I want it indexed properly :/
I am converting it from files with all the appropriate metadata.
The phone is an LG G VS880 if that matters.
When I play it I just get audio but just black and when I open it with totem it says 'missing codec error'.
did you check that you installed nonfree codecs or some shit when you were installing the OS
no, I just installed it
When I want to download a program like Skype (don't judge me) and it lists a bunch of distros, does that mean anyone using another distro is fucked or does it just mean they have to make three clicks instead of one
I am looking for a linux disto with a pretty specific feature. One I am not sure exists; I need a distro that actually won't try to access the internet unless I let it.
For instance, I want to have this OS run only insofar as to run a VM and start another disto. The initial OS will be my "backdrop" so I don't want it to have access to the internet while I am using it. Preferably, I'd like to direct all internet access directly to the VM bypassing my parent OS completely or as completely as possible
Is this a thing?
Also how do I use a VM which has direct access to hard drives? I want to give my VM access to certain drives, and in turn give my parent OS access too should I need it. These drives will all be encrypted, so of course access is only granted if I want it specifically.
Is this a terrible idea? How should I set up a VM'd environment if sometimes want access to the files it contains?
Is there a better way to go about all of this?
I think Skype in particular also releases tarballs which you can just unpack like zip files to run the program.
If a distro isn't listed, but it's derived from a distro that's listed, you can typically install the package for the distro it's derived from.
Instead of insulting good software, stop using a meme distro. Linux Mint is a pretty shitty distro. It supports all kind of proprietary formats, but doesn't support the vp9 codec. That's why you never got webms to work. You could install the libvpx-tools to get at least support for vp8 encoded webms.
The mpv version they use is from February 2014. The development of mpv wasn't that advanced yet at that time. So of course you don't get mouse support.
But honestly just use (X/L/K)ubuntu (Mint/Cinnamon/Gnome) 16.04. You get the same support for proprietary formats and don't have to deal with outdated software.
The default media-server in Android 6 supports opus natively. Vanilla Music from f-droid recognizes my opus/ogg files with the metadata in stock Android 6 and CyanogenMod 13 but wouldn't with Android 5. I don't know your Android version, so you might have to use something else. VLC for example supports opus/ogg regardless of version.
Or even worse, but it should work. Skype has pulseaudio as dependency and is a 32-bit binary. So you need the 32-bit packages of all dependencies too.
I reset my computer earlier this week because I had done some resource intensive stuff on my HDD; which resulted in my computer running relatively slow.
So I reset my computer and I immediately saw that my cursor's delayed. Extremely. So I shrugged this off and reset again around two days later and I'm still having the same problem. Which is strange which has only been happening since i reset is that whenever i tab into a game such as CS:GO; my monitor does some extremely weird graphical shit.
Does anyone know what this could be? Or should I go back to Windows 7: I'm on Windows 10 at the minute.
Windows 7, OSX, any linux distro ever.
Pretty much anything beside Windows 10 is a solid bet for stability.
Also, it's "moment", not "minute". :^)
OK, so the packages are just promised to work and if there is a tarball it's "here is the main part, you figure out the rest" kind of deal. Thanks.
For programs that don't give you a tarball, you can still unpack the package and place the files manually. You can unpack a .deb with "ar x package.deb", and then you get tar.xz files with more stuff. Some of the files give extra information to the package manager, but there's also a file tree with the files that get installed.
New to Linux, installed Manjaro OpenRC after some deliberation. Problem being, I can't connect to the internet due to my connection being broadband (PPPoE) with username and password. Grabbed rp-pppoe, but it gives me pic related. How to solve this? Archwiki is being cryptic as usual.
Alright, so I need to restore an HDD that was accidentally formatted (this is in no way my own fault for misunderstanding the broken English the chink who wrote the original script used). I have a 2TB internal HDD on my desktop, and I have a USB with SystemRescueCD written to it.
I know I would need a cable to connect the laptop and tower together, but the issue is that I have no idea what type of cable since I've never had to do this type of thing before. (the HDD isn't the main drive on the tower, an SSD is)
Would a normal Male-to-Male USB-to-USB do just fine, or do I need to order some type of special "Data Transfer" cable? Also, I'm sure I have a fair enough chance of getting my shit back even though the partition formatted was a Windows partition (meaning NTFS) being formatted to some type of FAT, believe it was FAT32, but what are some issues I should expect in regards to that? (the reason why I'm confident I can get all of what I want back is because I managed to recover some files with what little space I had left on the liveUSB. Of course, I didn't save those since they were from a browser cache)
What are good alternatives to youtube?
Are you using NetworkManager? It's tied to systemd nowadays, and it works better for weird connections than the alternatives.
Manjaro OpenRC might not be the best choice. I've heard that it has stability problems and systemd really isn't that bad, especially for beginners. But it looks like it does package NetworkManager, so see if installing it helps.
What's your purpose? Watching videos? Uploading them? If the second, what's your audience?
Alright. Any good places where I can get Windows 7 then?
I picked OpenRC specifically because it didn't have systemd - dling NetworkManager now. Also, what distro would you recommend then? Only other one I tried was Mint, and it gave me an aneurysm.
What is it you didn't like about Mint? It'll help me with a better recommendation.
And what environment are you using with Manjaro?
How do I find a good temporary proxy? I need one to watch a geoblocked video with livestreamer.
Preferably Nethelands server.
Manjaro OpenRC provides XFCE by default. So, as long as that user didn't change that, XFCE should still be there.
See is correct. As for Mint, I first tried Cinnamon and then XFCE, but the result didn't change - the entire thing was bloated as fuck, enough to put OSX to shame.
OpenVPN is always the answer, though I don't know about the Netherlands requirement.
In that case, if it's just the environment that was the problem, there's Mint Xfce.
Never mind then. You could try Debian, or Xubuntu, maybe.
Was warned away from anything _ubuntu, and apparently Debian is really slow to update. Why recommend them?
Regular Ubuntu has privacy issues, but the variants don't have any major problems like that. I think they're ok. Not everyone agrees. A lot of people do, though. There's no consensus about which distro is the right choice.
Debian has a slow release channel and a few faster release channels. The slowest channel is called stable. It's called that because the packages don't change. They only get security updates, no version upgrades. It's great for servers.
But it also has release channels that update at a faster pace. The "testing" channel is good for desktop use.
And Debian still supports init systems other than systemd, so if you do eventually want to get rid of it, you don't have to switch to another distro. Debian is very flexible.
Will look up more on Debian channels, thanks. Also, what's your thoughts on Devuan?
How would I remove another drive from the Windows 8.1 install list?
I don't want programs to default install to the other drive.
I haven't tried it. The idea is decent enough. I like systemd, but it doesn't fit with the Unix philosophy. Most of Linux and GNU doesn't follow the Unix philosophy, but systemd even less so. For fans of the Unix philosophy (I'm not, although I can appreciate it) having a distro that's dedicated to working well without it is a good thing.
It's probably not a good option for you personally at this point because it's such a young project. But it builds on a mature project, so who knows.
diskmgmt.msc, 'mark partition as active'. Or, you could fuck with bootmgr and arrive at pic related.
Wait and see then. Thanks for the help.
Did all of that, things still want to install to 'D'
Also, if I change the letter to something else, anything I attempt to install errors out (nvidia driver install states "An unknown error has occured"
Had the same situation, with a 100mb D: partition that Windows was treating as the default, and wound up deleting the partition and editing bootmgr with a 3rd party program. Not the best of solutions.
THEN WHAT DO I USE THEN? LINUX MINT IS THE ONLY OS THAT IS EASY!
Have you tried distros besides Mint and Debian?
I have tried
not supposed to be easy
not supposed to be easy
supposed to be a live distro
kind of crappy
not supposed to be easy
Try Xubuntu (16.04), or Fedora.
Gentoo seems very good but every time I try to install it I get miles of text and then the screen goes black and nothing happens.
when I install it loads and comes up to 'root@archiso' and I do not know what to do next
How do I update it and change the themes/preferences
How do I update it and change the themes/preferences and when I go in the terminal it says 'apt-get command not found'
How do I connect to the internet when I see no connection icon, where is the applications menu, how do i update it and change the themes/preferences?
works OK

no, I am just new to GNU/linux
spoonfeed me how to install it pls.
what do you do when 'root@archiso' appears?
Holy shit I want to spoonfeed you so goddamn hard because I feel so bad for you, but I cannot because you are beyond saving. Please, I am hoping to God this is a fucking joke.
Literally just go back to Windows, or use Xubuntu if you want to play WebMs. Amazon shit is only in regular Ubuntu, and they allegedly got rid of it long time ago. Mint is every bit as bad, they have had security slipups more than once, and in addition it's forked off of Ubuntu. You're already using propietary shit everywhere, so why does some stuff bother you and equally as bad stuff not?
no, I want to be spoonfed you faggot
how?
proofs?
Here are some tips:
Look up a guide on their website.
Look up a guide on their website.
Look up a guide on their website.
Look up a guide on their website.
Look up a guide on their website.
Xubuntu doesn't have Amazon things (only plain Ubuntu does) and Fedora doesn't have spyware.
I did look at the guides, but the PDF guide is like 147 pages long.
If you can't handle that it's not the system for you.
Windows was literally made for people like you
I will continue with Mint and try Fedora
Hmm, I'm on an LG G VS880, which only runs version 5.something… and I did not purchase this phone, so no rooting :/
Good to know, though, that 6+ supports OGG metadata natively
just go to the arch wiki

how can i root a chinese android phone, i tried using kingroot and it couldn't recognise the phone, tried to install the drivers i got from androidmtk and it isn't working at all.

Name the exact phone you have.
When do you think the year will be when Intel Atoms and Celerons pass the performance parity of something like a locked Nehalem i3? With Bay Trail, Atoms are just slightly above an old C2D E8400, and the newer Skylame Celerons reaching into the C2Q Q6600 territory.
Never ever. They will always be below shit tier.
ZTE Blade L3, phone SoC is an MT6582
I would disagree with that, unless you're talking about the x3 stuff meant for phones. The newer Bay/Cherry Trail x5 - x7 is a definite far cry from the piece of shit Diamondville. The most high end x7 Atom on devices like the Surface 3 and Telcast X98 Pro can almost play modern games, but constantly dips into sub-20FPS, both without having any dedicated GPU. I just find it how impressive that a ~5W tablet-laptop can have similar performance to an Optiplex with an E8400, the former 105W, 65nm workhorse CPU.
(see youtube.com
whore cam, thanks
I need a mobo that plays nice with the gtx 970 strix and has bluetooth with ethernet and wifi compatibility. under 200 and on newegg for reasons...
a store. The internet.
At this point if you don't have it and know how to get it it'd be easier to install Linux.
One of the popular ways is to download an official Win7 iso (no longer available legitimatelu) and crack it with Windows_Loader_v[X]-Daz (where [X] is whatever legitimate copy you can get your hands on). Although that's a lot of work to use Windows and you'd have to be pretty dedicated to be willing to do it.
I'm trying to get echo "" > C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Diagnosis\ETLLogs\AutoLogger\AutoLogger-Diagtrack-Listener.etl
to work, I had to look up leddit for this shit, sorry I managed to add my user with full access to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Diagnosis, but I can't do that with the subfolders for some reason.
In C, can I do this?
#include void makebigger(char *poop) { poop = (char * ) realloc(sizeof(char)*4) ;}int main() { char *pee ; pee = (char * ) malloc(sizeof(char ) * 2 ) ; //*pee is two bytes makebigger(pee ) ; //pee is now four bytes?}
I forgot to free pee. My question still stands, though.
JEWTEL
No, because the realloc changed the value of poop. You need it to change the value poop points to. That way you still know where it is outside makebigger. Like this: #include void makebigger(char **poop) { *poop = (char * ) realloc(sizeof(char)*4) ;}int main() { char *pee ; pee = (char * ) malloc(sizeof(char ) * 2 ) ; //*pee is two bytes makebigger(&pee ) ; //pee is now four bytes?}
Hi Holla Forums, my PC won't start up, or, rather it starts up, but there's no monitor activity -- my monitor isn't receiving any signal. My keyboard does, though; my PC is on. Wat do?
your programs are in the /bin, /usr/bin, /sbin, and /usr/local/bin directory.
mpv is the best player
FTFY
watching? youtube-dl
uploading? pomf.se and clones.
wrong. install lubuntu.
Ignore this -- I fixed the problem.
Recently got Manjaro. Worked lastnight but this morning I turn it on to this screen.
It just stays there, cursor flashing, until I restart my computer manually afterwhich the cycle repeats.
Pls halp.
Judging from that second FAILED message, your /boot is probably fucked.
But it's hard to say when you can't read the first FAILED message.
Learn to take a picture and then come back.
pls no bully
My only expirence was in 2007 with a Atom something, with 2GiB or 4GIB of memory, 4500rpm HDD (I think?), running Windows 7. That thing was unseable untill I installed a proper OS (Manjaro I think it was). I actually don't remember the full details, but that expirence soured me off anything Atom.
How is that 3.5GiB fast and 0.5 slower than a snail treating you?
Stop, my sides.
Can you run the two commands suggested in the error's output and post the results here or on a paste service e.g. ghostbin.
This is obviously wrong, so how would I do that?
It seems like you got the systemD™. Either systemd fucked up, or some parts of the installation are missing, because neither the virtual console nor the kernel modules can be found.
Try to boot into single-user mode. Press c when you get to the grub screen. Then press e, go to the kernel line and add the word single. ESC and then b key to boot.
If you can't boot into your system, then start Manjaro from the installation USB and chroot into your system.
When you're in your system try to install another kernel, linux4.4 for example.
Where do I add "single"?
The last line, just at the end.
On the end of "...x86_64.img"?
Is there some way on Linux to force all PulseAudio output systemwide through a simple binaural HRTF crossfeed filter, entirely in software, so that the soundstage doesn't sound like it's squeezed between my ears?
This is one of the few pieces of OEM bundled bloatware nearly universal among Windows audio chipset drivers that's actually useful.
Reposting since it got fried in the thread reset before I could check last time.
yes
It's doing nothing, I get this screen.
Fuck's sake. I spent all day yesterday transferring my files off it and then on it, I'll probably just move everything off that harddrive and try another install (I used unetbootin with a USB card).
Any other suggestions?
Try the OpenRC edition of Manjaro next. If the same problem happens try a different distro. Also is your /home on a different partition if not. I suggest doing so ASAP as it really helps with booting issues knowing that you can wipe without losing the vast majority of your data.
How could systemd stop the kernel from booting?
I got that same issue with stock Gentoo
I don't remember 100% how I resolved it
Try booting with nomodeset
I get that when I try to install lubuntu
oops, I left my tripcode on from another thread
Might else using vanilla Arch
your FS is fucked
rebuild it
I used this to create a swap file, and it gave me this
1048576+0 records in
1048576+0 records out
1073741824 bytes (1,1 GB) copied, 24,1867 s, 44,4 MB/s
But when I tried to close the terminal, it says that theres still a proccess going on, and if i close it ill kill it.
Is the swap file alreasy created or do i have to wait?
Always type the command sync, when you use dd.
you gotta explain me how to do that, son
Try entering "fg".
just that alone?
Yes.
bash: fg: current: no such job
In that case, the process it's complaining about is probably bash, the shell, the thing you enter commands in.
Enter "exit". That should close the terminal without complaints.
sync
That's it, just type it in the terminal. Linux caches things in RAM before writing to disk.
You still have sudo running.
Nothing happened.
If i type exist, will I keep the swap file after i reboot?
In that case "exit" should exit from sudo. He just has to enter it twice.
This didn't cause the warning, but it's good advice.
I already use "sync"
So the swap file is already created permanently?
The swap file is created permanently. It's not used automatically, I don't remember how to do that.
Now that I look at the specific dd command you used, "sync" doesn't help. But it doesn't hurt either.
what does dd means
and also what does the 44 mb/s means
It's the name of the command you ran.
That's the speed at which it created the file.
Is there any security advantage to installing your bootloader on an external medium (SD card/USB)? I'm not really sure how bootloaders work, and I can't seem to find any relevant info by searching. More specifically, I guess my question is this:
Are bootloaders unique? Or can you, say, load any debian system with any grub bootloader?
My guess is that they are unique, which leads me to think that FDE on my hdd and my bootloader on a removable medium would render any attempt to access the OS (without the bootloader) completely impossible. To anyone looking at the hdd, it would just look like a bunch of random garbage; you wouldn't even be able to tell an OS is installed on the drive, because of the lack of a bootloader (my understanding is that the bootloader partition can't be encrypted because then obviously you couldn't boot it).
Could anyone with more knowledge offer some input?

Hello tech,
I don't normally browse this board and I know I'll get flack for using Windows but here goes anyways. My settings have always been no updates, no bullshit but one day I found that that had changed somehow and my computer downloaded a bunch of updates from Windows. After that I keep getting pic related for some reason despite my version being clean and not pirated. I don't have a key on me as the computer was a gift and I've tried to no avail to change the problem using regedit. It worked at first but now its not working anymore. I followed the guide I found here: thewindowsclub.com
I'm using Windows 8 by the way. Please help an user out. Also, this was gifted a long time ago so theres no way he still has the key. We don't even live in the same country anymore
...
Believe it or not, pirated versions of Windows avoid bullshit like this by and typically have less license related issues than officially licensed Windows
I suggest you find a way to install Daz Loader or Microsoft Toolkit and run it in your PC to get rid of licensing bullshit altogether, search on The Pirate Bay for "Windows Activators" and you should find it, then run KMSplice it might say its for a particular Windows version like 7, 8, or 10 but it should work fine with all 3 of those
thanks anons.
If i use the same dd command again, will i get another gb in swap file?
*KMSpico
I aint got time for that shit.
Not surprising, same happens with vidya, having to jump through hoops while pirating is as simple as clicking and playing.
What is this? Also, is this the program you mean? kat.cr
you copied /dev/zero (a file full of zeros) to /swapfile for 1.1GB.
if you copy it again to the same file you'll overwrite it.
i think you have to run swapon to enable swap btw
teach me how, son
INSTALL GNU/LINUX YOU SHIT
; swapon;
...
bash: syntax error near unexpected token `;'
hey /g/ is there a c++ book that's good and won't bore me to death
literally just swapon
Read the error message... It just told you that ";" is bad syntax -- now what do you think the problem is?
you should just said so
that its wrong.
thats why i asked.
i use "swapon" but nothing appeared, just gave me a blank #
is there a way to see if the swap file its working, and how to make it work from boot?
'; ' is the shell prompt, like $, #, and %, you know.
Is there a way to me GNOME(3.20.2) top panel to bottom?
noticed. everyday is a learning day
if i could understand that i wouldnt be here m8s
If only there were some command to see if swap was on or something, then we would know
wiki.archlinux.org
to enable swap do as it says. you already created the swap file.
windows is better than linux

Linux has cooler logos
Windows is just four squares, that's pretty lame
The burden of proof lies with the one making the claim
I personally prefer Windows
However, not knowing how to use Linux is nothing to be proud of, and vice-versa

how do i rip DVDs? You cant buy the whole series of strong bad email DVD's anymore, and i am concered about the dvd's i have being lost/damaged since they cases they came with are piss shit.
i would also like a complete rip, ie all the video, all the audio tracks, and the meu's since theyre interactive, and one of the dvds has a game on it.
samefagging, would this program be sufficient? lifehacker.com
or is there something better?
Modern Quad-Core Intel Atoms supposedly compete with modern AMD A4s, God AMD has gotten so fucking shitty lately, their answer to Intel Atoms is the E series APUs which run too hot to be useful for anything under a laptop
So I attempted to install a gtx 970sc to my computer today and now my games wont launch. I tried switching back to my old gpu (assuming the 970 was faulty) and now I'm getting the same results with it as well. I did a clean driver installation, with new drivers, with both of them and made sure my pc had no power when I switched between the two. What do? Here's my current pc specs: Nvidia GeForce 660 ti, corsair CX600m psu, amd fx 8320, a disk drive of some sort, and an msi motherboard (sorry, I don't know the specifics of the last 2 components).
TLDR: Games won't launch after new gpu install, help please.
If you don't need a full copy of the disk (a complete iso copy) MakeMKV is excellent for videos.
I use imgburn on Windows for everything else.
How won't they launch? Does it hang? Is there an error message? If there is a message, what is it? What OS are you using? What games have you tried specifically? Have you tried to run a game with lame graphics (doom, mahjong, etc)?
You didn't really provide a lot of information.
Did some more experimenting, H1Z1 and league of legends can run after sitting on a black screen for about a minute. None of the dark souls games launch though.
my bad , didn't read your post the whole way through.
I still like imgburn.
No error messages, the games "start" for a moment, but then they just hang on a black screen indefinitely. I have to close the program to get out of the loading loop. I'm on Windows 7 home premium.
Games that have started: League of legends, Don't Starve, H1Z1 last man standing.
Games that haven't started: All of the Dark Souls series, Gmod.
I'll try some more if you need it.
Try in order:
1. Try doom or solitaire. Does it still happen?
2. Are you using a full screen'd game? Try it windowed. Does it still happen?
3. Run a game, and then press ctrl+alt+delete. Once you've entered that menu screen, launch the task manager. In the task manager, sort by CPU. Without exiting the game, please take a screen cap of the task manager.
3.1 Also, go to the event viewer. Do the "Critical", "Error", or "Warning" categories have any entries? If any of them do, please compile a list, or take a screenshot, and upload it for me.
Without physical access to your machine I don't think I'll be of much help. I'll try my best though.
i remember using imgburn back in the day. but the imgburn explicitly says it doesnt rip dvds?
Alright, Holla Forums. I've got an old computer I want to make useful again, and I wanted to see if anyone had experience finding a distro that would work well with the hardware. It's got an AMD Athelon 1600+ clocked at 1.41 GHz, 1 GB of RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce 6200 graphics card. I'll also need to buy a USB wifi adapter for it, and I was wondering what brands tend to work well.
It's obviously not going to be anything fancy, probably just used for some light shitposting. Anyone have recommendations for a distro or wifi adapter? I was thinking about maybe Q4OS or BunsenLabs.
>imgburn.com
It won't bypass DRM though. In order to rip a DRM'd disk you'll need to crack the DRM first.
About to dual boot debian testing.
What iso do I download?
forgive me, i must not remember the nomenclature; doesnt the phrase "burning a disk" refer to putting data onto a disk, rather than taking information from a disk?
I think they mean it in the ubiquitous normie way. As in both ripping and burning.
I've never had a problem with it on any disk, myself. Though I don't use it so often and I've never used it for blue-rays so your mileage my vary.
The official uninstall process sometimes isn't thorough enough. Run Display Driver Uninstaller to remove everything, reboot, reinstall your new drivers, and reboot again.
wagnardmobile.com
well while i jave your attention, what drm cracker do you reccommend?
Direct download here:
wagnardmobile.com
Oh, and remember to reboot in safe mode when using it for best results.
Any normal install with libdvdcss should work fine for DVDs/BDs.
Thanks friend, I'll give it a try; will report back if it doesn't work out.
Why won't youtube-dl work with this video?
youtube.com
It's giving me ERROR: unable to download video data: HTTP Error 403: Forbidden
403 probably means it's blocked in your country. They also have really aggressive rate limiting, but that returns a 429.
It works on my machine. Here's the video:
0x0.st
Thanks for the video. Did you use any flags?
That's odd, I can watch it just fine from my browser.
what version of youtube-dl do you have? reinstall it directly from the website. the one installed through the package manager always gets outdated.
No.
Have a dl380 g7 proliant server, wondering if I can put in a 550 gtx ti graphics card with the primary riser. Or if I have to use the optional primary riser.

Can't read between the lines if all risers give 150watts.
I want to control multiple computers with one keyboard and mouse, however I'm paranoid. Which of the multiple programs out there that allow one to do this is the most trust-worthy?
What are your operating systems?
You could try Synergy. It costs money, and the secure version costs even more money, but it's open source and you can just legally get the source code for free from their repository and compile it. Some distros package it, too.
synergy-project.org
If you only use Linux and other systems that run X, and maybe Windows with Cygwin, you can try x2x, running it over ssh with X forwarding.

Servers are usually geared toward having low-power high-bandwidth cards there, sucking an entire processor's worth of watts through that part of the board might work but isn't advised. Even if the PSU is up to it, the airflow mightn't be.
Server was only like 300bucks, and have the card already. Even if it goes postal that'll be acceptable.
Just wondering if power wise it is outright fool hardy with the x8 bus/x16 slot.
It won't explode or catch fire, if that's what you're wondering.
I feel so stupid, I thought I checked that recently.
Sheesh, is there another PPA that's more up to date? I don't want to have to manually download and install youtube-dl every time the API breaks it.
Once it is manually installed you can run -U inside youtube-dl to update it, no need to do any manual install.
sudo youtube-dl -U
Sure, stoop to letting every single piece of software on my computer require this of me. We have package managers for a reason, people.
Well it doesn't help when the packages in the repo are very old (obviously no one cares anymore, for example Midori 0.4.3 is in the debian repo's while current is .05.11) and the only way to fix is to either A) self compile or B) use PPA/AUR.
Somebody please help. I want to get my toaster working.
My friend has this bigass monitor that he says crashed one of his computers. Is that actually possible? Or is it just a wild coincidence?
It worked, you are literally jesus
It is very hyper thetically unlikely but possible that the video connection might have sent down a power surge which might have fried the GPU which might have sent that surge to the CPU/Motherboard before it died.
How could one safely test it?
How do I manually mount a CD-ROM in terminal? It's fucking up my installation and I'm retarded. I'm open to give more specifics so I don't make this too tl;dr, but goddamn I feel it in my gut that it's a simple solution.

This is the sticky you need:
HOW THE FUCK DO I INSTALL IPFS?
on ipfs.io
the site says
but when I enter that into the terminal it says
tar: This does not look like a tar archive
tar: Skipping to next header
tar: Exiting with failure status due to previous errors
What's the output of "file go-ipfs.tar.gz"?
wget dist.ipfs.io
It's that easy, but the command on that page seems to use to wrong file name.
How do I DIY upgrade my weak ass laptop to be more powerful?
I need it to be portable but I refuse to pay for ">gaming laptops".
user@anon ~ $ wget dist.ipfs.io
what do next?
What laptop is it? Depending on the model, the answer could be "not at all".
Get a SSD, Install Gentoo GNU/Linux.
I accidentally wrote cd twice.
Just do
cd go-ipfs./ipfs daemon
Reading, nigga can you read?
As far as I know, I can natively replace my RAM and HDD but I already have an 8GB RAM and stock hybrid 1GB drive.
But I've heard about some external GPU/CPUs, both commercial and DIY. I'm looking for something like that but I know nothing about these.
Already dual-booting xubuntu.
this happened
Initializing daemon...Error: no ipfs repo found in /home/user/.ipfs.please run: ipfs init
Nigga, you really need to learn how to read.
It tells you that you should run this first
./ipfs init
user@anon ~/go-ipfs $ ./ipfs daemonInitializing daemon...Error: no ipfs repo found in /home/user/.ipfs.please run: ipfs initanon@user ~/go-ipfs $ ./ipfs initinitializing ipfs node at /home/user/.ipfsgenerating 2048-bit RSA keypair...donepeer identity: QmTbKp14GXH1nsExvzCBWZCQmGqFMMq65ajE7TjnxyktXYto get started, enter: ipfs cat /ipfs/QmYwAPJzv5CZsnA625s3Xf2nemtYgPpHdWEz79ojWnPbdG/readmeanon@user ~/go-ipfs $
Now run
./ipfs daemon
then you can open localhost:5001
when I enter ipfs into the terminal it still says command not found, what do I do next?
and
Is this really that hard?
From the same directory you ran
./ipfs init
you now run
./ipfs daemon
And then open that URL.
./ipfs: No such file or directory
You are killing me.
In your home directory you should have a directory called "go-ipfs", is that right?
I am asking you to cd in this directory like you did before when you ran ./ipfs init
So if your terminal tells you that you actually are in this directory, you can run
./ipfs daemon
Unless you have Thunderbolt, mPCIe, or maybe ExpressCard, you're screwed. Even then, you have to use something like nVidia Optimus to actually make it display on your laptop's built-in monitor (if you want to both carry an extra box around AND use an external monitor, or even just plug in your laptop at home, you're trying too hard. Just build a desktop in an HTPC case, it will cost less and offer completely superior performance).
Assuming this is the case, expect to pay somewhere between $50 (if you have a PC case with adequate PSU, plus a GPU) and $400 (for a prebuilt solution). Read the following guide for details:
forum.notebookreview.com
Initializing daemon...
Swarm listening on /ip4/127.0.0.1/tcp/4001
Swarm listening on /ip4/192.168.1.2/tcp/4001

API server listening on /ip4/127.0.0.1/tcp/5001
Gateway (readonly) server listening on /ip4/127.0.0.1/tcp/8080
Daemon is ready
now what? how do I use IPFS?
Open that url I posted.
But how you use it is up to you.
Try

nice dubs I was having trouble with similar issue a while back as well. After a bitbof searching some package had to be installed to read audio CD's. In the end I just gave up and installed as distro that had it all setup.
First burn a distro to a usb/cd, poweroff and remove your HDD(s). Plug in a spare GPU (If possible) then connect the monitor and see what happens.
it comes up as a blank page but my ipfs addon says 55 swarm peers

how do I move to the start of the line on my terminal after installing screen and having ctrl-a reserved by it
Most keyboards have a button dedicated to this specific task. It's called home.

apparently home is function T so you did actually end up helping me
"ctrl-a a". Read the manual by running "man screen".

How do I ungrey the stupid thing?
So on my windows phone I blocked a few girls numbers, but I'd like to see those texts now (on windows phone, it'd keep a separate inbox for them), but the problem is, the app is broken now and I can't read whats being said to me anymore, and I'm extremely curious. Anyway I can still look at the messages?
Check the data folder of the app in question.
and I can do this by just plugging it into my laptop and exploring the files from my computer?
That should br able to do it. I can't think why any of it wouldn't be possible.
Does anyone have any resources for learning VALGOL?

I'm looking for a programm on Ubunto 16.04 that can convert .cda files to .mp3 or at least .wav
I copied a bunch of tracks from an audio CD a whjile ago and want to turn them into MP3 now. I don't have the CD anymore.
Any suggestions? I tried SoundJuicer, Audacity and OGMRip but they don't take .cda files.
Bad luck, get the CD back. cda files are just shortcuts, not audio files. You have to rip a CD, to get the actual audio files to your harddisk.
wtf is this magenta connector in the upper left?
Motherboard is an Abit IL8
That's an audio connector.
An impossible task.
I know that green is line out, blue is line in, pink is mic, black is surround, orange is subwoofer+center, but what IS the magenta??
Let's say I have a surround system, I'd plug
But what would go into the magenta one??
okay, thanks.
What programm would you recommend for ripping AudioCDs?
I tried Sound Juicer with another CD and found it doesn't have preferences for stuff like bitrate or target folder.
Any other ecommendations?
How do I get my PC to boot properly? I just installed a new mobo to replace the blown one and I keep getting some I/O device error and Windows crashing. I checked my HDD and it's fine and my CD Drive is also fine. Could it be the media reader, or something else?
The one redeming feature of Windows Media Player is how easy it is to rip cd's.
Have you tried: resetting the BIOS, making shure that the power connections are in fully, can you get into safe mode?

Hello friends. I finally got around to setting some time aside for building a reasonably secure system. I've figured out how to do everything I need except for one thing that really annoys me:
I can't figure out how to use the debian installer properly to partioning/encrypt my disk to my liking. I want to set up /boot with grub on a USB so I can do true full disk encryption on my hdd. I've figured out how to install /boot, but I can't figure out how to create the encryption scheme like the automated installer does:
When using the automated installer it encrypts the entire drive except /boot. When I try doing it manually I end up having to encrypt my main LVM (root, home etc) AND swap separately.
Does anyone know how to do this?
Thank you.
I should add that I've tried doing the automated encrypted partioning and then editing it. It works, I can delete the /boot partition from my hdd and create it on my USB, but then I'll still have the ~250mb of unencrypted space on my hdd that /boot previously occupied, but now just as "free space" that I can't merge with the main encrypted LVM because it's already been made and encrypted.
How do I do that? I keep getting some error that something needs to be updated, but other than that nothing. When I try and boot Windows 7 I don't get a safe mode, I only get normal Windows 7 or System Recovery which does nothing.

I have mobile broadband through virgin mobile, with a 6 year old 3g modem. Ive had it since 2008, and I have unlimited usage each month, which is grandfathered (they don't offer it anymore). It's the best internet available where I live, so I don't want to give it up.
But my connection has gone to shit in the past six months, and in the past few weeks its barely even connecting. Rain does cause it to go slower, and it's been rainy lately, but its never been this bad before.
Do I need a new modem? Is that likely even my problem?
Or is virgin just being a pile of rotten douchebags because I have unlimited for 40 bucks a month?

You can mount it in Ubuntu if you install the hfsprogs package.
I assume this is an internal drive, yes? Have you tried a different SATA and or power cable? How old and what brand is the drive? If it is a Segate, this is to be expected as my 1TiB external died a couple of months back sudenly. Do you have a spare HDD? If you do you could try a platter swap.
It should be the creation time.
Your file manager may have a tab for creation data or use exiftool.
I'm having problem with my Audacity audio recordings under Ubuntu 16.04
I dualboot on my PC and with literally the same setup, I get excellent quality under Windows with Audacity, but under Linux, I get this really low-frequency humm, that messes everything up. If i remove it via noise reduction it distorts all my other sound. I do mainly voice. I record with a Samson Meteor mic (USB desktop mic) which also acts as my output since it has a headphone out.
Anyone know something like this?

would still like to know if there is an option tho
I recently went from windows 7 to arch, but there's one feature windows had that I really miss.
In file open dialogs (eg if I was trying to upload an image to 8ch) if you slapped a url into the location field, windows would run internet explorer silently in the background, download your image from the url and save it in a temp folder, then upload to 8ch using the temp folder. This was slick as fuck and I can't find anything like it for linux at all.
I'm currently relegated to manually saving an image to my storage and uploading manually with the file open dialog which is a pain in the ass.
Thanks in advance, Holla Forums
You could use wget. Open a terminal to the folder you open images from then:
wget url
You'd still need to use the file open dialog, but being a linux user, you will probably halready have a terminal open. I know I do.
I think you can drag images to the file selection box to upload them. Try that.
That doesn't help. You're just describing what he already does:
Drag and drop works for places like imgur and facebook, I guess. But strangely not for Holla Forums. And I'd still kill for url input in the file open window. I've read that the kde file open dialog has this ability but I'm unsure how to use just that one specific part of KDE.
Additionally, the xfce (which I'm using right now) file open dialog is mandatory above all windows and I'm forced to focus on it - I can't click to another tab to drag an image to the file open dialog.
what is meant by this?

the issue was apparently in the copy constructor/assign operator

How do I put the picture in the background of the board?
Why does my internet connection keep freezing? Every so often the internet will stop working. The connection meter will stay perfectly fine, but my browser will just refuse to connect to the webpage. It's not a matter of speed because it downloads and uploads at a perfectly reasonable rate, when it does deign to do so. For example I will attempt to access a website and at any random point the browser will simply give me a blank page for 10 minutes before saying "fuck it" and showing a blank "new tab" instead. Then I press refresh and unless the browser decides to fuck me around again the page will load perfectly fine. During the time I'm trying to access this website nothing else will load. I can sometimes cancel everything and try to send all the requests again and if I'm lucky it everything will load completely normal.
The clearest example is when I try playing Showdown. Constantly the browser will refuse to send or receive the data and I'll be stuck on a turn raging about it taking forever while my opponent will sit there raging at me for taking forever, then the page will finally load and I've timed out and lost the match. In order for me to play showdown at a reasonable rate I need to open a new tab of the same game every turn just so that it works.
My browser is Iceweasel and my OS is Debian 8. I'm gonna try installing Palemoon to see if it is Iceweasel doing this, but I somehow suspect it might be the driver or some sort of preinstalled cancer in the BIOS. Has anybody had this problem before or heard of it?
It's almost as if the wifi is just sitting there and only sending and receiving data at its own pace. Internet should work by remaining connected until another program prompts it to access the internet, right? And when it is prompted by a program it should do so immediately right? Not fuck around with other things or completely ignore the prompt.
I am 99% sure it is an issue with my computer because I can play online on my PS3 perfectly fine.
Step 1. install gentoo
Step 2. install firefox or iridium

Lads please help a Holla Forumsack out. I've recently moved to Manjaro (32 bit, KDE) and I've found that I can't do Google Hangouts. I need to install the Google Talk plugin -- I have it both as a .deb and .rpm -- but I can't figure-out how to do it. Opening either of those files with Octopi does nothing, etc. What do I need to do?
Bump, please guys.
I don't understand what is meant by this? I'll get the card, but how do I infiltrare here computer?
How do I use one of these to watch my roomate cam though?
BUMP, please dear god.
I'll get the microboard (SBC?), but I need to know how this allows me access.
I see the thread, but how on eartth would I use one of these for my intended purpose?
After so much Holla Forums shilling I finally decided to give i2p a try...
This is the worst fucking garbage I've ever had the misfortune of trying to use. I've run it for 24 hours now, and I average a download speed of around 1kbs, and then, a few hours ago, it just stops downloading. When I try to establish a connection it just says "starting" and nothing ever happens.
I'm not even asking for advice or support. I just wanted to tell those fucking shills that they're faggots. It's irrelevant how "secure" or "anonymous" a fucking system is when it's this fucking slow and broken.
WHAT DO?
You're fucked, lad. Best to just get a new PC.
oh shit, I have to buy a new laptop
What OS are you using?
How do you open a phone that you don't know the password to?
I didn't steal it, but one of my friends said I could have it if I could open it
I don't know how they got it though. Could I get v& if I do open it and it turns out they stole it?
Is Tor safe? or compromised?
Or should I use I2p?
Please, can anyone give me a hand?
Open up a terminal and do "yaourt -S google-talkplugin". Or instead of yaourt, use your favourite aur tool if you so wish.
mint
...
.deb and .rpm are for Debian-based and Red Hat-based distros, respectively. Manjaro is a derivative of Arch. You're attempting to use packages meant for a different Package Manager.
will work for you.
see
I2P is a broken, useless piece of shit. The only people who recommend it are people who've never actually tried it.
But even if it did work it'd still be so slow that it's literally unusable for anyone downloading anything that isn't a tiny text file. Downloading a 1gb file would take weeks.
Thanks based Anons. How do I continue?
I just skip that by hitting enter
I don't think you're supposed to do that but who cares
How the fuck do I get bluetooth working in Linux Mint?
but Is Tor safe? or compromised?
But does it work? :^)
Is there a hardware switch on your machine at all?
All it's asking you to do is change some code in the pkgbuild, which is (as far as I understand fairly new linux user too :^)) the installation script for that particular install, just in case the author was a cunt and put in a sudo rm -rf / in there. It ought to be alright 99% of the time though.
Correction, it's asking you if you want to make any changes. The line above talking about environment variables and adding "vim" to .bashrc is on about setting your default text editor.
I'd ignore it and hit enter this time.
BASED LAD.
Thanks a bunch.
What do you mean by compromised?
Where abouts would that be on the laptop?
Can't you see/read or you drunk?. The button to solve it is right fucking there. It even says so.
Nice one.
If it is an Android Phone you can mount it via MTP and have access to the internals, this is assuming that the phone's encryption hasn't been used. But this most likely requires access to settings to turn it on. Also using adb during one of the pre OS parts, might be able to help you to reset the password, not shure though. If it is anything else I don't know. The some what modern Nokia phones are almost impossible because the official steps don't give enough time to input the required code.
Consult your device's manual as it varies device to device.
Look it up for specific's. You would most likely need at a hardware levle in edition to the SBC, a wifi module, a ethernet connection to your router to able to forward it to your device. You could also try to politely and honestly ,ask your roommate for access.
It's a shitty old ipod with a cracked screen
There might be some exploits that you could use to gain root access and then hopefully bypass the lock screen or reset the password. Shurely there will be a guide up for you to follow.
Alright, what do I do for this piece of shit not to blow up?
inb4 buy another PSU, I'm a huge poorfag at the moment, and PSUs where I live cost the equivalent of 170$(200$ for a good one at the voltage I want).
Also, if you don't know about the CX 750, it's basically a chinese 650w branded as corsair.
In theory it's possible, but you'd still need the materials(silicon, gold, etc) and one of the most expensive 3d printers out there, as well as schematics.
I'm looking to sign up to Mullvad but I can't into Bitcoin. If I'm going to connect to it directly, is there a reason to pay anonymously?
I'm using opensuse for some reason, I wish I hadn't chose this shit OS and my thinkpad keeps randomly turning off. The first time there was a message saying it overheated (I felt the bottom of the chinkpad and it wasn't overheated), but now it doesn't say that and I'm not sure if it's crashing for the same reason. How do I fix this shit? Also it crashes every time I try to play vidya
It's an Alienware 17 R2 and I don't see any bluetooth switch on here anywhere.
do SSDs consume less power than disk-based hard drives? trying to find ways to cut power consumption on my lappy
Are there any decent textboards on I2P?
One of my USBs fell to the ground and now my computer does not recognise it and tell me to format it.
i tried to use EaseUS, but i only can recover like 20% of the original files, plus it starts to create multiple copies of the same files
Is there anotehr option ? (tried Recuva but it said it there was nothing on the USB)
Running Gnome, I have no less than 8 applications for Wine in my applications menu.
How do I get rid of them, or at least their shortcuts on the applications menu? They don't show up in the Software application, and terminal removing 'Wine Mine' isn't recognised.
Oh, plus Regedit and Notepad, which are also both Wine. I'd be happy to make a Wine folder to keep them all in there, but as you can't drag and drop in the Gnome applications menu I don't know how to do that.
I bought a SODIMM RAM 4GB to upgrade my shitty laptop's 1GB RAM but whenever it's installed the laptop just shows a black unlit screen and I can hear a low, high-pitched noise coming from the memory stick at the start. Laptop starts fine if a few seconds slower when I put the old stick back.
What fucks my shit up is that I don't know if it's a compatibility issue (it's rumored my laptop's mobo only supports 2GB max yes it's that shitty) or if the memory is faulty.
I already tried reseating it several times.
Should I try replacing the stick or is a compatibility issue more likely?
It's dead, Jim.
Does MEGA keep the files you delete on their servers for some time after you delete them?
I had some pretty sensitive info on there for a while and I need to make sure it's not there if MEGA suffers a mass compromise.
Do you think I'll be alright if I just standard delete the files in their web interface?
Hi Holla Forums. I need some help getting my drivers patched. Or something.
I'm currently running Fedora 23 and I want to use a wireless dongle I bought online for wireless sniffing. The only problem is that the drivers it uses were changed to not fully support monitor mode a while back, the one feature I got the dongle for in the first place. The support was added back in, but it's not made it to the kernel version I'm currently running just yet.
Here is the commit that removes the feature I need:
And here is a commit that adds it back:
How can I apply whats in that second commit? Do I need to install a newer kernel that might have this in it, or what? Also, how would I find out what kernel version has this commit in it?
I did some searching and found this message log discussing this patch. marc.info
At the bottom it says: "I'll queue this to 4.5.". Does this mean kernel version 4.5? Is that the kernel version I need to install? And if so, how do I do that?
I'm currently on 4.4.9 (uname -a output: Linux fedora 4.4.9-300.fc23.x86_64 #1 SMP Wed May 4 23:56:27 UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux)
Of course, if there are some different wireless drivers that I should install instead, please tell me.
Pic related is the dongle I got. It's an ALFA AWUS036NEH.
You might be able to do a man-in-the-middle attack over the WiFi. Basically tricking her device into thinking your computer is the wireless access point, and then redirecting all of her traffic through the internet connection on your computer. You can then set up some rules to save all of the stream traffic to your computer. You'll need a USB WiFI dongle (like the one I'm trying to get working now) and a distribution of Linux, preferably Kali Linux.
This might be difficult to do if the streaming service she's using has encryption, but you can do things to try to force an unencrypted link. Tell me what your network settings are (WEP/WPA/WPA2, if you have access to the router etc.)
Have you tried looking at it with a partition editor such as GParted? It might give you a bit of an idea of whats happening. Also be sure to check for physical damage on the stick itself. At least maybe you could copy over the partition to a file and try to recover it later.
I just bought a laptop (ThinkPad X220 Tablet), and it had Windows 10 installed on it. I've since deleted it, and currently have no OS but I'm gonna boot Ubuntu. Before doing so though, I wanna how I can COMPLETELY remove windows and all associated spyware from the device.. any tips, or is it as simple as deleting the OS?
Boot into a live USB and format the entire drive with GParted or something similar. Windows typically uses multiple partitions to store its shit. Might also be worth going through every menu in the BIOS and look for windows integration options (I believe I found something like that on my newer model thinkpad).
This is probably the best you can do apart from installing something like libreboot.
I will install Libre boot if it guarantees windows is out of there, would that option be better?
I don't know exactly. I haven't used Libreboot or know much about it, but I think it's more for removing other things that aren't windows. You'll probably be good without it. Have a look in the thinkpad thread for more info.
G-guys?
Please tell me that nobody's going to steal my data, or at least that it's not likely. I'm fucking worried.
Your data is stole
seriously though, I remember MEGA having good encryption so I wouldn't worry too much. Maybe. Don't know how they do things.
Anyone?
I also encrypted it before uploading, though it's not the strongest encryption.
Looking back, that was a dumb decision altogether.
What encryption method should I use to get the most out of giant keys ("giant" as in several GB)?
(check'd)
Try another OS.
Should be something simple like right-clicking the icons or whatever, shouldn't it?
been running Mint (yes yes its nig-tier) for a while now what's the best way to back up my install/c: ? I guess I could use something like Ghost and image it but im too lazy to boot into that and interrupt my anime
also when re-arranging icons on my desktop they just seem jumbled as fuck even when I click to sort them by name, etc...
yes, in the best case.
It is possible that if you try to backup / while it is in use that corruption could be introduced into the image. To backup /home which is where most important account configs are saved it would be best to login to a separate account dedicated for the purpose and then tar/dd the partition for the exact same reason as before.
You can't do shit with the right-click menu from application icons, you just get
whats the point of noscript
top kek, it allows you to conrol a websites scripts which gives you more privacy.
I recommend only allowing sites you trust such as
The NoScript Firefox extension provides extra protection for Firefox, Seamonkey and other mozilla-based browsers: this free, open source add-on allows JavaScript, Java, Flash and other plugins to be executed only by trusted web sites of your choice (e.g. your online bank).
NoScript also provides the most powerful anti-XSS and anti-Clickjacking protection ever available in a browser.
NoScript's unique whitelist based pre-emptive script blocking approach prevents exploitation of security vulnerabilities (known and even not known yet!) with no loss of functionality...
You can enable JavaScript, Java and plugin execution for sites you trust with a simple left-click on the NoScript status bar icon (look at the picture), or using the contextual menu, for easier operation in popup statusbar-less windows.
Watch the "Block scripts in Firefox" video by cnet.
Staying safe has never been so easy!
Experts will agree: Firefox is really safer with NoScript!
V. 2.9.0.11 - Friendly Security
If you find any bug or you'd like an enhancement, please report here or here. Many thanks!
Main good news
InjectionChecker improvements (thanks Masato Kinugawa, .mario and Maxim Rupp for reporting).
Fixed placeholder activation which was not working anymore in Firefox 45 and above.
Sites in the default whitelist are automaticall upgraded to HTTPS if still allowed when loaded (thanks Mazin Ahmed for reporting).
Updated googletag.com and google-analytics.com script surrogate (thanks barbaz).
Fixed breakage due to getter/setter definition changes in latest Firefox nightlies.
Holding the left mouse button down on an absolutely positioned page element and hitting the DEL key will remove it if scripts are disabled (useful to forcibly kill in-page popups). This feature can be disabled by setting the noscript.eraseFloatingElements about:config preference to false.
Right-clicking on NoScript menu items copy site domains to the clipboard (useful for reporting and investigating sites, thanks Tom T. for RFE)
"Click to play" protection against WebGL exploitation, now also on whitelisted sites (can be enabled in NoScript Options|Embeddings)
Security and Privacy Info page is shown whenever you middle-click on sites exposed by NoScript's UI, either in the menus or in the Whitelist options tab.
Middle clicking NoScript's toolbar button temporarily allows all on current page.
More in the changelog...
Experts do agree...
03/10/2014, Edward Snowden endorses NoScript as a countermeasure against state Surveillance State.
08/06/2008, "I'd love to see it in there." (Window Snyder, "Chief Security Something-or-Other" at Mozilla Corp., interviewed by ZDNet about "adding NoScript functionality into the core browser").
03/18/2008, "Consider switching to the Firefox Web browser with the NoScript plug-in. NoScript selectively, and non-intrusively, blocks all scripts, plug-ins, and other code on Web pages that could be used to attack your system during visits" (Rich Mogull on TidBITS, Should Mac Users Run Antivirus Software?).
11/06/2007, Douglas Crockford, world-famous JavaScript advocate and developer of JSON (one of the building blocks of Web 2.0), recommends using NoScript.
03/16/2007, SANS Internet Storm Center, the authoritative source of computer security related wisdom, runs a front-page Ongoing interest in Javascript issues diary entry by William Stearns just to say "Please, use NoScript" :)
Actually, NoScript has been recommended several times by SANS, but it's nice to see it mentioned in a dedicated issue, rather than as a work-around for specific exploits in the wild. Many thanks, SANS!

I can't fucking get my Wireless working to install Void Linux.
I have followed wiki.voidlinux.eu
The ethernet port on the computer doesn't work (big problem) and I tried a separate WiFi dongle. I can load into a live Desktop Environment and can use whatever the network manager is there to connect and use the live desktop, but it doesn't work during an install or after.
I can't even connect if the WiFi is open and unrestricted, the installer only seems to have an option for WPA and WEP. I installed without internet, files from the ISO, but I can't get the WiFi working post-install either.
WiFi works during the installation of any other distro, like Arch. Sucks because I tried Void in a virtual box and I really like it.
I've been messing around with GPU pass-through lately, and I was wondering:
Is it possible to make a copy of my Windows 7 partition as an .iso, and run that as a VM?
It's not an ISO, as an ISO refers to the ISO 9660 optical disk file system: en.wikipedia.org
It's just a disk image. And yes, it's theoretically possible, though you'll be just as well off just running directly off the Windows 7 partition (qemu makes this easy, VirtualBox should make it pretty simple too). superuser.com
If you want to be safer about it, you can dd your Windows 7 partition into a raw disk image, and then use that or (more preferably) convert it into a more usable disk image file. There are guides for it, but you can grab the disk image with
dd if=/your/win7/partition of=myimage.raw bs=$((1024 * 1024 * 8))
The bs is because most hard drives have a cache size of 8M, and that'll copy it the fastest.
If I use a random MAC address every time I connect to a (wired) network (uni), can the network admins identify my device (and thus me) between connections? I.e. are there any other identifiers such as the hostname that can be used by the network admins to uniquely identify a device? Assume all my connections are encrypted, i.e. assume I'm connecting to a VPN from that network.
The admin's can most likely see your browser finger print. Also a VPN connects two networks togother. Seeing as you are connecting from the uni network that makes then apart of the connection.
The admins can see that all the MAC addresses are the same barring one which keeps changing, leaving you.
Windows 10 inacessable_boot_device. stuck in loop.
Attempted booting into safemode, recieved same error. Attempted reset of OS, froze. Restarted, same error.
This Acer machine is brand new and only lasted three weeks. I can't find any means of fixing on the web that take unworking safemode into account, and i'm at my wits end.
How do I fix this buggy piece of shit?
Go into BIOS and disable secure boot if you can. Then boot up a GNU/Linux distro, backup important data, delete Windows 10 and install a GNU/Linux distro of your choice.
How do you effectively and safely transport a gaming desktop? I've got a HAF 932 with a 960 and a medium sized cooler on the CPU. How do I transport this fucker to a new residence without breaking anything?
I'm already taking the GPU out, but what about everything else? Do I pack paper in it and stuff it back in the original box, or what?

Hi Holla Forums I'm making a mod for Darkest Hour and I was wondering how to use GitHub correctly since this is my first time. Is it possible to automatically synchronise from my computer to GitHub if I don't want to manually update every file?
Hi. I'd ask /diy/ or some other board this, but they're all dead.
I need to test the purity of a copper sample. The seller says it is 100% copper but I don't believe them since they're foreign. Ideally I'd like a nondestructive test, but a destructive test isn't out of the question. I have access to consumer equipment, no extremely precise lab stuff. Any tips?
Does a service exist where I can send in a sample, get it analyzed with a spectrometer, and get sent results? I feel like that'd be the most efficient in my situation.
Are there any good Android ROMs that are officially supported on Samsung Galaxy S6?
Don't ask why I have such a phone in my possession.
How are you transporting it? Personally? Hired movers? Shipping?
Recommend me software to use as a street map.
It needs to run on Linux, be FOSS and not require internet.
Just got fucked over by a car insurance company.
Anyone want to tell me how I can get revenge hacking or otherwise? Got email, phone and website to deal with, really small company too so shouldn't be too much problem right?
I just want to fuck with them, I'm DDoSing the site now.

I recently purchased a SATA to USB 3.0 case for my storage hard drive, as I am downsizing from my desktop to a laptop. I plugged the drive into the enclosure, followed the directions, and plugged it into my computer via a standard USB cable. It did not recognize the drive, so I thought "oh well, I'll fix it in the morning", and unplugged the drive. However, now the computer does not recognize the drive when it is plugged in to the same SATA port and power cable it was plugged into previously. Any ideas as to why this is happening? Is the drive not getting enough power for some reason? It's a 3.5" Seagate Constellation, 1TB.
good luck :^)

37B-2 The Gravimetric Determination of Tin in Brass
Discussion
Brasses are important alloys. Copper is ordinarily the principal constituent, with
lesser amounts of lead, zinc, tin, and possibly other elements as well. Treatment of
a brass with nitric acid results in the formation of the sparingly soluble “metastannic
acid” H2SnO3 xH2O; all other constituents are dissolved. The solid is filtered,
washed, and ignited to SnO2.
The gravimetric determination of tin provides experience in the use of ashless
filter paper and is frequently performed in conjunction with a more inclusive analysis
of a brass sample.
PROCEDURE 1064 CHAPTER 37 Selected Methods of Analysis
Provide identifying marks on three porcelain crucibles and their covers. During
waiting periods in the experiment, bring each set of crucibles and covers to constant
mass by ignition at 900°C in a muffle furnace.
Do not dry the unknown. If so instructed, rinse it with acetone to remove any oil
or grease. Weigh (to the nearest 0.1 mg) approximately 1-g samples of the
unknown into 250-mL beakers. Cover the beakers with watch glasses. Place the beakers in the hood, and cautiously introduce a mixture containing about 15 mL of
concentrated HNO3 and 10 mL of H2O. Digest the samples for at least 30 min; add
more HNO3 if necessary. Rinse the watch glasses, then evaporate the solutions to
about 5 mL, but not to dryness (Note 1).
Add about 5 mL of 3 M HNO3, 25 mL of distilled water, and one quarter of a
tablet of filter paper pulp to each sample; heat without boiling for about 45 min.
Collect the precipitated H2SnO3 xH2O on fine-porosity ashless filter papers (see
Section 2F-3 and Notes 2 and 3). Use many small volumes of hot 0.3 M HNO3 to
wash the last traces of copper from the precipitate. Test for completeness of
washing with a drop of NH3(aq) on the top of the precipitate; wash further if the
precipitate turns blue.
Remove the filter paper and its contents from the funnels, fold, and place in
crucibles that (with their covers) have been brought to constant mass (see Figure
2-14). Ash the filter paper at as low a temperature as possible. There must be free
access of air throughout the charring (see Section 2F-3 and Figure 2-15). Gradually
increase the temperature until all the carbon has been removed. Then bring the
covered crucibles and their contents to constant mass in a 900°C furnace (Note 4).
Calculate the percentage of tin in the unknown.
Notes
1. It is often time-consuming and difficult to redissolve the soluble components of
the residue after a sample has been evaporated to dryness.
2. The filtration step can be quite time-consuming and once started cannot be
interrupted.
3. If the unknown is to be analyzed electrolytically for its lead and copper content
(see Section 37K-1), collect the filtrates in tall-form beakers. The final volume
should be about 125 mL; evaporate to that volume if necessary. If the analysis is
for tin only, the volume of washings is not important.
4. Partial reduction of SnO2 may cause the ignited precipitate to appear gray. In
this case, add a drop of nitric acid, cautiously evaporate, and ignite again.
Every time I boot up the computer, I get some error about the system memory changing and it saying that it only has 1GB of memory despite the fact it has 2GB of memory installed. Does this mean my RAM shit the bed in some way, shape or form and could be causing the BSOD on a normal boot?
I am sorry user, it is likely that your data is deader than wood.
what the fuck are you trying to say with qtox and debian?
But why though? The drive has been doing great for a while now. It's been very reliable, this is the first and only problem I've had with it. I don't get what happened. Even if it wasn't receiving enough power via the enclosure, shouldn't it turn back on just fine after being plugged back into my computer?
Have you got another cable to check with? Also it may be good to let the "cache" of thr drive reset by disconnecting the cable and leaving it alone for a little while.
Yes, it is one of the few Holla Forums suggested ones that I remember. The only other I clearly was cryptostorm.
Yeah I have another cable to check with. I'll disconnect the drive and let it reset first, then try a different cable.
Any good Object Oriented Programmers on right now?
What's the proper object design if you have a game that has a map and an npc and you want the npc to be able to shoot a bullet? The only way the npc would be able to access the map is if you did something like
world = new Map();npc1 = new Npc();npc1.update(&world);
If the npc's update function is the one that handles all of it's ai and it senses that it wants to shoot a bullet, what is the best way to design it if you want the npc to be able to add the bullet to the map? Do you just have to pass the map by reference to the npc?

what are some good gnu/linux os versions that work for a touchscreen and recognize multi touch?
i believe that comes down to the desktop environment you choose
most distros will have multi touch support?
i didnt say that
then what did you say
the distros dont define what your desktop environment will look like
but surely some distros will lack touch support entirely?
so your saying i should be looking into the exact version?e.i debian cinnamon?
should check what desktop environment supports multitouch, then choose a distro version that offers that desktop environment on default
The three work fine, im using a win 7 home prem. 64 bit
im using chrome and i have installed media player classic and windows media player. im not sure if that was you were asking for
I'm trying to boot Ubuntu from USB on a Thinkpad X220. Everytime I got into the boot from temporary device menu (f12), I get a message reading "invalid partition table".
It's a USB 2.0. with an iso image on it and one other folder). Is the other folder fucking with it? Does my BIOS not work with USB 2.0?
Just deleted other file, now only .iso image is on the USB, still nothing.
I went into the BIOS and set USB CD boot to top priority, put only legacy boot (tried with it set to both too)
I don't know, help me Holla Forums I wanna use this thing today
I see, thank you. I didn't know what a "desktop environment" was defined as, new to this.
Just found USB CD 2.0 in the boot options, changed to number 1; nothing.
"invalid partition tables"
you need to install the image onto the usb, dumbo
try the program rufus for that
I don't know what you mean. I cross posted to reddit and some guy recommended UNetBootIn to "create a bootable flash drive from the ISO".
Confused, I am. But at least I have a lead now.
trying currently, thx pal
I don't know what any of these setting are supposed to be set to.
are you sure you want to install a gnu/linux distribution
lol yes
im a beginner ready to start my journey
gotta start somewhere right?

i can see that you are a redditor
if you're unable to research anything yourself then you will be unable to use ubuntu properly
I've been researching myself all morning, and I'm currently doing so with this rufus program. It just speeds up the process greatly if I simultaneously post when I run into problems.
and I'm not a redditor
you've been researching all morning, and the result is that you copied the iso file onto your USB drive?
No. This hasn't been the only problem, user.

Will reducing the resolution and/or replacing the hardrive on my laptop with a ssd make a significant improvement on battery life?
I accidentally sneezed on my laptop's touchpad and now it won't fucking work.
How can I fix this without shelling out money(is it possible?).
Just installed Debian. CLI only. Don't have a /etc/network directory. How do I set a static IP now?
Oh, just the touchpad doesn't work.
The laptop itself works
The wireless in my house is insanely inconsistent. It doesn't really bother me, because I have a powerline connection to my room in the basement, but the people I live with complain constantly. We used to have a separate modem and router, then our ISP supplied us with a combination modem/router. That's when the problems started. When the wireless works, it's super fast, but it disconnects multiple times a day. We have a signal booster installed in one of the power outlets in the middle of the house. Could that be part of the issue?
Could be other eletronic devices
There are 6 people in the house, each with their own phone and laptop. Additionally there's an XB360, an Xbone, and a PS3. Is it just because there's too many things connected to it at one time?
Too many people would certainly cause it to slow the fuck down, but I'm sure it wouldn't make the whole thing crash at random as you said, could be a faulty router.
Well I'll see if I can RMA it back to the ISP and get a new one. Thanks for the help.
What's a decent alternative to BitTorrent?
qbittorrent
What's up with this weird file already exists error that sometimes comes up when I try to post stuff?
I get this shit on webm's that I have just created, there is no way that those are already posted somewhere on Holla Forums. I first assumed that those errors come up when you try to upload files that you have already posted in other threads.
How would I go about making my own game engine?
btw /agdg/ is dead
pls halp
the protocol or the client? for the latter try transmission.
Whichever lets me use torrents. As in, download files via them. BitTorrent proper's starting to seem fishy on the laptop. Two ads too many. Don't want it on my new rig.
so the client? if you are using *nix transmission. there is a port for windows but i never tried it.
What's the best way to preserve my data?
define best.
If you want to make it 100% yourself, good luck with that. If you want something to let you easily create windows and do other interactions with the OS such as getting key states and whatnot, you can use something like SDL for that.
SDL isn't an engine, but just a library to help interface with the OS. Source games and a few others such as FTL use SDL. SDL is also cross platform, so you can just cross-compile it for a different target OS.
I've just had experience using SDL and C++ to make some really basic stuff and its worked out for me so far. Here's a guide that I used to learn how to use SDL lazyfoo.net
There are other libraries apart from SDL that do the same thing but I haven't looked into them.
Holla Forums I want to hop on the FREE SOFTWARE meme and uncuck my machine. But I have heard that the Linux operating system can be incompatible with a lot of hardware like videocard, thus fucking up you graphics for things like gaming. How do I know/ research what consequences using certain hardware will yield in comparison to Windows?
maybe your hardware is supported, maybe it's not, that's it.
look up if your GPU is supported.
More than one level of reduncy is a good thing. For example.
Raid 1, with a backup server (probably passworded or GPG encrypted 7zip archives as you can update files inside archives), external HDD with a stable FS like XFS and mabye in the future BTRFS. Finally if you can afford the associated equipment, the M-Disk platform as the disk are supposly able to last for 1,000 years.

It might be a good learning expirence to try and diy one. That said, it might be a good idea to stop revienting the wheel and modify one to suit your needs if required.
It may or may not depending.on things like: CPU and GPU efficiency, age of battery and screen, has thermal paste been reapplied, has any of the connections come lose and what brightness the screen is set to, etc.

Have you tried the BIOS by removing the BIOS chip for about a minute? The chip looks like a round coin and is some cases placed in a stupid spot, right across from the PCIE lane closest to the CPU.
Mabye see if you can pass your login details as variables then put it inside a cron job to do it every 5 minutes or so.

How do I update my kernel to a version that isn't available with my package manager? I'm running Fedora 23 and need to get kernel version 4.5 for reasons. Currently on 4.4.9, which is the latest version I can get via my package manager.
Is there a clean way to do this by adding some repo or do I need to compile from source?

What's the best desktop environment for gestures and multi touch?
Could someone tell me/remind me what the keyword for "datasheet for a SD card" is? Basically, I just want to look up mean-time failure rate/PE cycle endurance/DWPD for various SD card manufacturers, where can I find that?
If it's not broken, don't fix it. Unless you experience framedrops, stuttering, unusually low framerates or other problems you shouldn't bother to upgrade.
KDE Plasma
I think my pc is a bit fucked. Yesterday I've noticed that the GPU was overheating for no reason at all, so I tried to turn off internet to check if it was infected by a botnet for mining or something, I was right, even though MBAM didn't found anything in the hourly scans I think it is obviously infected.
So, do I only have to wipe the drive and reinstall windows from scratch/install linux? Or do I need to take some more steps to clean everything?
really? I've been consistently reading gnome, maybe what i was reading was outdated. You're absolutely certain, user?
I'm on an X220t, having trouble getting most finger based touch controls to work on Ubuntu (Gnome, I think).
I'd like something that allows me to zoom in and out with ease with a finger, and gestures like swiping to the right to do something would be even cooler.
How do I tell what kind of model of x220t I have? I'm basically wondering if mine has the potential to do 2 finger touch, 5 finger gestures.
bump
on laptops, the model is usually written under the battery.

Silly post on my part, I should have been much more specific. I have 2 external HDD's but I worry how long they'll last, so I should have asked what's a better long term storage solution.
Not doable, I don't have a server.
As for other suggestions, I asked because HDD's don't last forever sort of thing, so what I'm understanding is the best bet for me is to buy an external HDD every 2 years or so and hope it doesn't die on me. Thanks a lot.
I acquired a copy of FF7 HD for pc through alternative methods, but I can't seem to get to run H
help please.
I am extremely new to this
buy small amounts of storage and make regular backups, you can buy more storage later when you'll need it and the price most likely dropped and capacity increased.
Is there anything I can host reliably using an Intel Pentium 4 HT 521 CPU? I got another old ass box to work but I want to use it for something headless.
So I bought a delidded CPU, but now my heatsink isn't making a good connection. See pic related, it was cranked as tight as it would go. What are my options?
Right now I'm looking at buying some thermal pad, about 1mm thick, should get it close enough. But I am curious if there are other heatsinks that would work better for me, because mine are shit to begin with and I could use an upgrade. I'm on LGA 1366.
I want to get tor for my computer.
I'm currently on a mac pls no bully and my package manager has two tor related programs: tor and torsocks.
I've heard that you should use the torbrowser in order to make yourself not stand out when using tor.
Basically, should I download tor and torsocks using my package mangaer and download the torbrowser from the website?
Or should I just download everything from the website?
you dont need the tor package to use the torbrowser. the torbrowser works standalone.
the tor package installs the tor daemon, that lets you use any other browser or tcp socket program with the tor network.
DL the bundle from the website. Those packages won't give you what you need, unless you know what you're doing. Plus repos aren't updated as quickly as the main site is. The bundle will give you Tor access and a browser that is reasonably modified for safe browsing, all in a mostly retard proof package. Just check the sig when you DL it over the web.
"bundle"
no such thing anymore
its a browser
It's been a while since I've bothered with Tor, TBH.
A reinstall should destroy the vast majority of malware, except maybe NSA tier stuff. Just to be sure though, either create a new partition table and repartition or at least reformat the infected partition.
Absolute best, no holds barred, is redundant onsite tape drives with multiple offsite backups in a variety of media.
But honestly for most people just throwing a copy of important files on an external HDD is good enough, unless you think you'll need your files until the day you die. I worked for a business that threw financial backups on flash drives and tossed those in a safe deposit box when they were full. It's worked fine for them for about a decade, and the oldest files are still readable.
Fuck sake, after restarting, the thumbnails aren't showing at all.
How do I embed a command line/terminal into tkinter in windows

Trying to clone my 1TB drive to a 2TB, but dd always gets stuck here. dd if=/dev/sdb | pv -pterab | dd of=/dev/sdcdd: writing to ‘/dev/sde’: Input/output error ]33.9GB 0:12:17 [ 47MB/s] [ 47MB/s] [ ]71013945+0 records in71013944+0 records out36359139328 bytes (36 GB) copied, 740.093 s, 49.1 MB/s Is there another way to do this? It's my encrypted /home partition, so I need to keep the encryption. The drive can still mount just fine, so I'm not sure what the problem is. (After failing the first time, I logged out and tried again from a LiveCD so I knew the drive wouldn't be mounted. Same problem.)
I also plan on moving the 2TB drive to /dev/sdb to take the place of the old drive, so I assume once the drive is cloned and partition resized it should work just fine. Or is there something else I need to edit?
Why are you piping to pv during the middle of the dd process? I would suggest afterwards to ensure that dd has done it's job without any possible interputions.
K-9 Mail on F-Droid may be of use. I wouldn't really know as I don't use outlook.
ya, I have k9 and outlook installed because I never added an outlook account with it. I need outlook for work and school.
I'm getting password reset notifications that I'm not requesting from a few different sites. Its happening on two different email accounts to, same name different suffix e.g. outlook, gmail
Am I correct in assuming some chinks figured out my password and trying to get access to my accounts?
Should I just go through and make new passwords for each account?
They probably figured out the email address and are trying to reset the passwords. I would suggest following your own good advice.
Also see of you can hide your email if it is public.
If I build a new rig, can I move my HDD from my old PC to my new one and keep using it normally? I'd rather not go through the trouble of installing pirated Windows 7.
For posterity, I just removed the socket clamp. Not a good solution though, not good contact on one CPU since there are capacitors in the way, and the heatsink is the only thing holding the other CPU in the socket.
You can simplify your command to pv -pretab /dev/sdb | dd of=/dev/sdc/ but as far as why it's writing to sde instead of sdc is somewhat worrisome to me. You could try looking at arguments to pass dd, and get very specific with how you want the data written.
Yes. Moving the hard drive is fine, at least in my experience. Weird driver issues may occur with the new hardware, but as long as you have video, mouse and keyboard you should be able to get the drivers you need.
Should be /sdc not /sdc/, sorry.
IIRC the default Android email app lets you hook up outlook and exchange emails. Open source and doesn't chew battery. But set the background refresh interval to something reasonable, like every 30 mins or so though. I think MS tries to use a constantly running (battery hungry) push service for emails so you get mail instantly.
I'm using arch linux.
I'm getting this error while trying to install packages using makepkg -sri:
I tried:
Nothing works. I'm not well versed with Linux but after a quick search and collecting information, I noticed that:
I don't have a ca-certificates.conf file on /etc/
sudo cp /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt /etc/pki/tls/certs/ca-bundle.crt gives an error telling me that ca-certificates.crt is not a directory.
When I click on ca-certificates.crt it says "broken link".
I was using pv during the process to monitor progress. Using pv after seems rather useless.
I don't know how sde got in the message. It didn't say that in my terminal. Anyway it still failed. pv -pretab /dev/sdb | dd of=/dev/sdcdd: writing to ‘/dev/sdc’: Input/output error ] 3% ETA 4:55:5633.7GB 0:11:13 [51.3MB/s] [51.3MB/s] [> ] 3% 70727049+0 records in70727048+0 records out36212248576 bytes (36 GB) copied, 675.151 s, 53.6 MB/s Is one of the disks bad? you can assign a temporary variable by assigning before the command, eg:
; VAR='foo bar' echo $VARfoo bar
unmount it and fsck it.
default android app was replaced by gmail. I do not want to use gmail, I don't trust it
why? do they filter out anyone with domain other than outlook?
okay, thanks
Also, would I need to install the tor package for zeronet and retroshare?
dd reads from stdin by default.
source: the fucking man page
By default it doesn't output anything to the screen though.
The tor package is a global one so all you have to do really is setup the proxy settings to use tor as the proxy which is supposed to then passes all traffic through the proxy.
``The dd utility copies the standard input to the standard output, applying any specified conversions.

if=file Read input from file instead of the standard input.

Is this the right place to post a problem I'm having with VNC?
no, I can't use a personal one for work. and there is a school policy that professors are only allowed to reply to students school emails. this is what happens when you grow, you are forced to use proprietary software
yes, ask it.
I'm trying to connect to a friends computer, and while I can connect over the local network, I don't know how to connect to him over the internet. I do know that the server is listening to ports 5800 and 5900, yet neither of those ports are open on his router. I also know that he is able to connect to this computer while he is away at work. I tried connecting to his computer using the external ip address with port attached and I failed to reach the server.
What does "reference card" mean when it comes to video cards?
Someone replied to add bs=4096 (then deleted their post) and now it works. Copied 300GB and counting.
How do I get into a job in IT where I don't have to talk to customers at all. Or have to do support?
I'm networking trained mostly. I have 2 years support exp and currently unemployed.
Alright I got the partition cloned and resized. (I still can't believe all I had to do was add bs=4096.)
Turns out I also had to change the UUID of the partition because the old drive is still in the computer. A quick google search showed me how to change that and edit the fstab, so everything's working just fine now.
It is the stock version that is produced by AMD and Nivida. Board partners , e.g. Gigabyte then build their own versions using it as a base to work off.
Unfortunately, not matter which part of IT you are likely going to have to deal with co-workers and provide support to them. With that out of the way, your local job job hunting website might have a few job offers open. Also check the Career's section if a company has such a thing.
I guess I don't mind supporting internal too much. I don't want to be a lazy shit or anything, but it doesn't feel rewarding anymore. Also, them 12 hour days.
Are reference cards usable by customers or are they only given to other manufacturers? Do they even sell reference cards to the public?
I have DLL that calls SetWindowsHookEx to install WH_CALLWNDPROC hook to add new item to system menu (Alt-Space). I have exported functions to install/uninstall the hook in DLL and call that from my program. It works for that program but I want to make it work to every window, so the menu item gets added to other processes too. In other words is it possible to create "global" hook instead of local to calling process?
What's the best video capture software out there at the moment?
What's the best video editing program out there at the moment?
ffmpeg
Simple screen recorder seems pretty good. And if you don't need to deal with different fps clips, Blender's NLE is great. And even then, you can just batch convert everything with ffmpeg to the correct fps beforehand.
Solved it myself, don't bother answering.
sorry
ffcast.
Reference cards are very much usable by consumers. They just use Nvidia's/AMD's stock cooler and board design. Oftentimes, though, third-party cooling solutions are better than reference cooler designs. Third-party manufacturers might also use different/improved board designs.
I just got a new (used) HP laptop. It's apparently using the new UEFI boot, which I've never used before. I'm trying to access the "normal" bios settings that I'd find on my legacy bios systems. The only option I have is to hit esc at startup, but that just drops me into the "HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI" where I have the following options:
Memory Test
Hard Drive Check
Language
Exit
None of these have anything to do with the options. How do I UEFI, tech?
Ahh... Figured it out. I just tried inserting my kali live usb, and now I have full access to the bios menus.
wtf is this shit? why do I have to feed it a bootable drive to enter the bios?
Nope... That just appears to have been a fluke... I managed to get into it once... now I can't again... Found a guide that told me to take out the battery, hold power button for one minute, then power on with only the cord and it'd work...
It doesn't...
I can't fucking boot my usb...
try to boot while pressing the function keys repeatedly. usually the fn to press depends by the manufacturer; i think it should be F9 or F10 for boot options on HP machines.
I'm about to start a project and I'm pretty sure which way I want to go with this but I'm looking for outside insight. I've been using linux exclusively for a little over a year now and I find myself only using my desktop PC for movies and video games and my laptop for just about everything else. So I want to turn my desktop into a media center directly connected to my TV controlled remotely by my laptop. The opinions I'm looking for are:
1. what distro would be best for this? I can't really decide whether I want to go with a server or desktop linux because I'm going to be using it for file hosting, gaming and movies/music.
2. What is Holla Forumss preferred remote desktop method? The only one I've had experience with in linux is remmina.
Sorry if this is worded like shit, I've had cronic back pain all week and I'm currently nursing a hang over from a failed attempt to drink the pain away.
It's escape. It says it's escape. Escape is supposed to give you the menu to go into the other options. Instead it just gives me the diagnostics. I've tried smashing all of the fn keys, esc, delete, etc, and all I get is the diagnostics, etc for that one time...
???
desperate measure would be to disconnect to the hdd to see what happens.
what's the difference really
Already tried that. Same result.
Mom has an older Asus laptop Model x45u

I told her NOT to upgrade from Winblows 7 to Winsuck 10 BUT being a old lady she did WTF she wanted to anyway.
Everything works BUT the damn DVD drive.
its a Matshita uj 880 dvd drive.
It is in the device manager under "other devices" and has a question mark next to it (NO YELLOW TRIANGLE).
I have tried every solution I have Googled from uninstall-reinstall to changing the reg key and everything in between.
She is nagging me to no end. Without this laptop working she cant watch her old tv shows on Hulu and Netflix.
Help!
Here's a pic in case that'd help... This is, as I said, the only thing the computer will open whenever I press any of the bios related keys (esc, fn, del, etc)...
did you try to press fn. like fn+F9, fn+10, and so on?
I found your problem.
Microsoft keeps a Windows.OLD folder somewhere when you upgrade to Windows 10. It's got your old version inside. There's some way to downgrade and restore that. You could try going back to Windows 7 using it, and then install something that blocks the Windows 10 notification.
Does anyone have the javascript for turning normal links into archive links? It was posted like 2 weeks ago and I just cleared all my history.

After I delete files in puppy linux I don't get my storage back. Is that how it's supposed to work? I have it on a USB.
when you use a live USB the OS is loaded on RAM.
Depends on what you mean
Delete files inside the Puppy save file. Do this by booting Puppy, removing things in / and then saving
Empty the recycle bin. Deleting a file on FAT moves it to a hidden folder, emptying the bin removes it.
New partition table -> New partition in GParted
Any suggestions for a Linux live distro with a bittorent client included?
lubuntu
Puppy Slacko/Trusty or Porteus
They don't come with a torrent client but you can install one once you boot into them. It's usually just a separate file.

where do you live and what did you do?
Live in the states, and I've been on a movie download binge lately.
Thing is, I set my client (qbittorrent) to require encrypted packets, and I download movies that don't typically have a lot of seeders (usually 10 or less) so as to decrease the likelihood that the swarm is being monitored by the MPAA/RIAA/fucking scum, so I guess that I must have just gotten really unlucky this time.
A lot of the movies I download also aren't really "A-list" type of movies, there more classics, older types, or obscure (from a normie perspective)
Call it a breaking of a really, really lucky streak I guess because I've been doing this nonstop for at least 5+ years now.

I need to create a coordinate table for points. I don't know what I'm doing wrong but even when selecting "All Points" in the Add Point Table menu, no points actually show up in the table. It's just the header and no data.
This video: youtu.be
just reading autocad triggers me
my teacher used to bully me so hard over it
Figured it out, I wasn't actually making points, I was making useless dot objects arbitrarily named "Point" using a command. The real command is "CREATEPOINTS"
Yeah it's fucking absurd, I went from the chill SketchUp life to AutoCAD with no training because my office needs shit done. I don't know what I'm doing 99% of the time.
How would you get a torrent if the torrent website is blocked by ISP?
Proxy breaks the magnet link, and the torrent file becomes corrupted/invalid somehow.
i'd try getting it via tor, if that doesn't work ask a friend that knows what he's doing to get it for me
Could someone give the Pros&Cons to rooting your phone? I'm considering it but want to know exactly what risks, if any, there are.
In Nautilus, how do I display only certain filetypes in a folder?
The concrete example is: I have a foto Folder in which I have .jpg .RW2 and .xmp files which are all named the same and I want to copy just the .jpg
I tried entering *.jpg in the searchbar but it doesn't help
Can install apps that do things that require root, such as adaway
If you're stupid you can fuck up your system
If you let a malicious app run as root it can fuck up your system
If you fuck up doing it something might go wrong
Personally I'd say it's worth it for adaway alone, but make sure to use some common sense. Cyanogenmod and other custom roms have extra tools to let you define which apps can get root.
There are special programms that let you decide which app gets what kind of access at what point of time.
I used to tell it to feed all, apps except my navigation app, random location info. so my facebook posts would be made from the easter islands, antarctica, central africa or england.
Root privileges can make for a lot of fun on how apps react to your phone. You can set so that it can't know what other apps are installed (which is interesting to some companies)
i want to write a program to wipe files. [mostly as a pet project]
i am already well aware of why this is a bad idea on a hardware aspect, but this would mostly be used on cheep disposable flash storage.
so say it cleared information using this method
xxxxxxxx one byte of whatever data [x]
xxxxxxx1 1 is forced if x is 0
xxxxxxx0 0 is written after forcing 1
xxxxxx10
xxxxxx00
...
byte removed from file.
and this process was continued shifting left for all bytes from EOF.
would the file be recoverable in the following cases:
1) the file was on a HDD
1a) and computer has restarted since writing file
1b) computer was wiped [regardless of method] since writing file.
2) the file was on a SSD [or other flash media]
see 1a and 1b
I can't really help you with that (Python GUI programming on Windows), I guess you already checked Stack Overflow for answers. The idea presented there is to collect your command for the terminal in a text box and to send it to the terminal to execute it for you. The alternative would be to program the commands yourself (with a framework) if the task is easy.

Is there a simple way to send a file and/or message from my debian machine to a windows machine inside my network?
Sorry, I forgot to mentiont hat I'm on GNU/Linux.
almost a week ago, I bought a refurbished Dell 2007fp to match my 4:3 intuos
later in the first day I noticed tiny black hairlines at the bottom of the screen
the weird thing is, they are internal
thought they where dead pixels, but they are too organic to be that. they look like some weird mini scratches
just a couple of days ago some new ones developed
I'm contimplating returning it, I'm worried it will get worse.
I don't think it's fixable, but anyone know what the term for this defect is?
There are solutions to escape VM's, but these are mostly used by special snowflake crackers and the NSA. Just don't use pirated isos and you should be save.
tl;dr no solution + autism
Stop using graphical filemanagers.
Once you get comfy with the terminal, you woun't miss them. Terminal solution: ls -lAh *.jpg
sigaction(2)
ps
or, you know, ls *.jpg
#!/bin/bash is ok, no need to change it.
also
FUCK NO. I refuse to believe the entirety of the Linux development community has not thought of that. Also, Fuck using terminal for fucking everything. Some people need to lead normal lives in well lit rooms with a mouse attached to their reasonably usable computer they need for everyday tasks
I found a workaround though:
At this point it won't actually do a search on empty input, instead enter something that the search can search for. I chose "." because it is contained in any filename anyway.
You could also just search for ".jpg" but some file extensions, such as .xmp work by adding the extension onto the full filename, so you'll get P1234567.jpg.xmp
ID filters don't work for me, since the site was fixed, but it works for other (or so I have heard) wat to do?
Other file managers do file extensions by default. Try Thunar or Dolphin I guess. I personally never liked GNOME/Nautilus.
And if you want a "normal life" how about you stop using Linux. That guy is bein' an idiot but the command line terminal is one of the most powerful tools not only in Linux but all computing. I would say you don't even need a display server all the time and you can do majority of your daily computing in the cli.
Bottom line, don't be so apprehensive to learning basic shit like navigating through files in the terminal.
The thing is with the graphical interface, I can then select and drag and drop all the files I just displayed or do any other thing I want with them, like open in GIMP or tag them.
Every time I learned a command from here it just did one thing; and I needed to learn another 3 commands if I wanted to do even one thing differently about it.
It sounds like I am a massive lazy-ass, but I have to use my time more crucially for other things. i don't work with these commands. If I was a photographer, I wouldn't learn about Quantum-Mechanics. Sure, it would help me understand diffraction and mosaic, but I'd much rather learn about new Photo-tech and equipment.
To someone who programms for a living or a "deep hobby" it seems reasonable to do. But to someone who just wants a working computer and discover new stuff on the same usability-level, it's useless.
It's like the "Root or no root" question for Android: If you know the basics and how to work it, rooting is good, but I don't like using the console because one wrong step can fuck up everything and to unfuck it, I'd need to read that 1500page "comprehensive introduction to Linux" book that's always staring at me in the Uni-Library. I mean, they have introduction to Organic Chemistry 3 times, why do they have THAT book like 7 times? Why does it occuppy its own shelf?
The wacom tablet on my X61T isn't working. The kernel module is loaded, but the outputs of lsusb, lspci and xsetwacom show nothing of wacom. The only other thing is a symlink in /dev/input. Help me. I am on Arch Linux.
Why are you support posting while knowing literally nothing?
a) If you don't like using the terminal, install Windows; it's literally made for people like you
b) seriously. GNU/Linux isn't Windows. Time to realize it.
stack overflow says that env just searches for bash in $PATH, which i find useless.
feel free to correct me if i misunderstood.
It's for portability. With '#!/bin/bash' you're assuming bash is there, but that might not be the case. With '#!/usr/bin/env bash' you're telling it to run bash, wherever it is.
It's more noticeable when you make a Perl script, because Perl could be in /usr/bin or in /bin. '#!/usr/bin/env perl' would work as a catch-all.
fucking help, i've tried literally everything on the internet. i've been doing this for 5 hours now and its not working. please please help me.
literally windows. the unix way is literally make few small programs and combine them.
selecting with a file manager has indeed it's advantages, but with the shell you can make far more powerful selections.
you are so full of shit it's not even funny.
anyway, for anyone that actually wants to learn something, read the first 3-4 chapter of The Unix Programming Environment.

untick everything.
Bad habits are bad. Why not learning+using proper things? Even if it's just for your own.
The main problem is that most people lurk random dotfiles and reuse them/learn bad things.
just typing the path of the file is the proper way to handle it.

I've fiddled with the regedit prefetch/superfetch and task scheduler but it's still acting "Intelligently" against a human user.
Also, have I made a mistake by not updating Windows 8.1?
Your mistake is to be using proprietary software: you cannot choose whatever it does.
Since I guess you are not willing to install GNU/Linux because videogames, try blocking microsoft DNS at your router. It will make the updating routines of Windows fail.
Did you install xf86-input-wacom and libwacom?
Is Debian better than Linux Mint?
untick everything and install GNU/Linux
B-but, so far, I've denied any updates from Windows, though I'm not sure if that prevents them from doing so.
Install GNU/linux or continue using your NSA spyware.
You can't turn off the botnet. There are tools and scripts out there that promise turning it off, the problem here is that these tools/scripts just set some registry keys and windows will just set them back. Blocking ips may work for some, but not for all since some addresses are hardcoded. And last but not least, you can turn off updates, but then you are vunerable for every little 0day exploit.
There's a point when a OS isn't usable anymore. When you can only choose between being spied on or being vunerable, just switch.

Ola! As you may know from a (deleted?) thread I am trying to learn Python following a Python book. So I had one exercise in it that I wanted to expand upon myself but the behavior is really weird.
The code is self-explanatory, I think, I will post the output too so you can see where it goes wrong.
cars = ['audi', 'lancia', 'mercedes', 'mini', 'mitsubishi', 'renault', 'subaru', 'volvo']message = "Ugh, turns out my garage is way too small and I can only hold two of you. ):\n"print(message)for car in cars: if len(cars) > 2: popped_car = cars.pop(-1) message = "I'm sorry to say that the " + popped_car.title() + " had to go." print(message) else: message = "Welcome " + car.title() + ", here's the invitation to my garage." print(message)
Output:
Ugh, turns out my garage is way too small and I can only hold two of you. ):I'm sorry to say that the Volvo had to go.I'm sorry to say that the Subaru had to go.I'm sorry to say that the Renault had to go.I'm sorry to say that the Mitsubishi had to go.
Why doesn't it continue on after popping 4 cars? The if says it should continue on, and if the number of cars in below 2, it should print something else.
What am I doing wrong? Thank you in advance!
After you pop the cars, there's only four items in the cars list so it only loops four times.
You can probably set a variable (e.g. var) to len(cars) and then make a for loop with range(var).
Could you please explain the reasoning here? I understand there are only four items in the car list after I pop them one by one, but why does it then only loop four times? Shouldn't it keep looping? Why not?
So at the beginning, there are eight cars.
The first iteration of the loop acts on the first list item (i.e. the "car" variable is the "audi" item of the loop). This doesn't seem to matter, though, as you don't use "car" in the loop.
The next iteration will act on the second list item (i.e. lancia) and so on. By the fourth iteration, the "car" will be "mini." However, there will be no more list items to iterate on, so the loop will stop.
Ah of course! That makes a lot of sense, thank you.
So you can't in this loop take a car from the first start of the row either can you? Because it would go 0, 1, 2, 3 etc in that order anyway and not restart at 0 when you take one off, right?
So anyway, I tried setting a variable to len(cars) and then tried comparing range with 2, but that doesn't work either...
So what am I supposed to do now?
Well, I did it by accident, and I don't know what to think of that. On one hand happy that it works, on the other that I'm not because I do not understand why it works like it does. I'm not sure if this is the correct way to go about it, but this is what it looks like now:
cars = ['audi', 'lancia', 'mercedes', 'mini', 'mitsubishi', 'renault', 'subaru', 'volvo']message = "Ugh, turns out my garage is way too small and I can only hold two of you. ):\n"print(message)for car in cars: for value in range(2, len(cars)): popped_car = cars.pop(-1) message = "I'm sorry to say that the " + popped_car.title() + " had to go." print(message) else: message = "Welcome " + car.title() + ", here's the invitation to my garage." print(message)
It doesn't seem good practice that it's FOR or ELSE and not IF or ELSE or whatever.
I have a problem.
I just pirated a game, and mounted it using daemon tools. When i click autorun to install it, nothing happens, except autorun.exe appears in the processes tab in the task manager.
I've tried using different mounting software, changing the owners, running as administrator, running it in compatibility mode, putting the files on my desktop and running them from there, nothing worked.
I have no idea what to do anymore, apart from putting the files on a thumb drive and getting to another PC and install it all there.
The "for value in range(2, len(cars)" loop pops all the cars by itself, so the "for car in cars" loop is only iterating once before going to the else case. That means the the nested loop is kind of pointless.
The else case however does need the "for car in cars" to work properly. You can just separate the nested loop into two diffferent loops
I tried everything on stackoverflow and shit but it didn't work
Figured out that you can just remove the [else:] entirely and keep it within the first loop because it just does top to bottom and goes with the second loop before reaching the second part of the first loop. Thanks for all your help!
Modem has been acting up, tried a number of things to no avail, so I decided to open the damn thing and take a look. Pic related?
Is this a bad sign, and if so, how do I fix it? It looks like corrosion, on the flip side of that strip is where a few capacitors are, but as far as I can tell, the Capacitors are not corroding.

Try OPATool if you can find it.
What benefits are there to learning about cs?
I am trying to get additional fonts on Ubuntu and what I could gather so far is that I need to download them and install them for the entire OS, not the programs.
So I am looking for Helvetica or Arial and I find them nowhere, except in paid form.
Do I really have to pay for these fonts?
What's the surest font that every OS comes with so that I can use it for all sorts of work I share with people for co working?
counterstrike?
Computer science you fool
So how do OPAtool and Dazloader work though? All I get for Dazloader are cheeki breeki russians telling me to install some social shit.
Not sure on Dazloader, but I've used Opatool many times to fix the described problem.
Arial alternative would be FreeSan
Helvetica alternative would be Nimbus Sans L
It's easy to get all these font on Arch, I don't know you'd get them on ubuntu.
Why would I need to get them. I mean a font that nobody needs to get so people dont fuck up each other's typography or shit like that.
For Ubuntu, ignoring the FREEDUM aspect, what would be preferable:
OpenOffice or LibreOffice?
Especially in regards to compatability
Libreoffice is a maintained fork of OO.org
All I know is this heavily fucked up my system and I've spent 3 hours trying to use system restore to get it working though I keep getting errors thrown at me.
Whoever suggested Dazloader, thanks because I might have to completely reinstall the OS.
Not sure about it, but if I were you I'd delete the shit out of it and run a virus scan. I've had a pirated game setup that acted exactly like you said, and in the end my PC ended up as a mining bot.
Is this typical? What's the cause? increased ammounts of images and animations ( 23 slides, about as many images). Or has it something to do with using .pptx files that were most likely made with keynotes?
Should I just save as .odp?
Is it alright to get certain extensions for Tor, depending on what they are? Or should I just avoid them all entirely?
I'm looking to get uBlock Origin/uMatrix, and possibly the MEGA dl extension. I'm not sure how any of them will affect Tor.
Probably seeing as it is Microsoft's code and performance of Windows is known to degrade over time.
That is the most likely cause.
But then your teacher can't open it and mark it.
why the fuck would you need an ad blocker if you disable JS.
use tor and set all security to max.
Wait, so just 23 images on a slide can cause this ammount of saving time? I'm currently well over 17 minutes, prolly around 22. That can't be. On Windows I never experienced such massive savetimes.
Would saving as .odp resolve the issue so i could at least work with properly?
Have you tried clicking setup.exe instead on autorun?
I have found a link to a folder with a Windows 7 Pro .iso and a copy of Daz loader. Would you like the link?
Microsoft Office probably has been optomised a lot on the backend.
Hopefully that is the case.
Because NoScript really isn't all that great at what it does.
What about the MEGA extension, though? Does that get a pass?
And while we're at it: where do I get more Master Pages for Impress. The ones included in the pages are utter crap
Tor with max privacy blocks all JS.
fuck no.
My GPU is getting up to around 83 degrees C on newer games I've been playing. I found I can get the temp into the 70s by upping the GPU fan speeds, but now I'm worried about wearing out my fans. So basically my question is what is more likely to happen first to a GPU in general: heat damage or dead cooling fan?
MEGA forces me to get some app in order to download files over 1gb, it won't let me do it through the browser.
What should I do about this?
cURL.
I don't trust Vince anymore after the server seizure+eve online.
What similar email service exists that is easy to register for so I don't have to use a real email for shit like making 8ch boards?
I tend to use major providers like hotmail and yahoo but I had their JS-laden, shitty UI and registration asks for way too much crap.
protonmail/host your own.
Sure, though I'm still uncertain on how to use. I believe I just scrubbed the last of cheeki breeki off my computer so everything should be fine.
Protonmail looks ok, I guess. The "le encryption password" really doesn't inspire confidence, but I suppose it's not like it can hurt since I treat the email as insecure and disposable anyhow. Wish they didn't use reCaptcha.
And every faggot web 2.0 admin finds out my IP? No thanks.
Actually turns out Protonmail doesn't support POP3. Any alternatives that do?
unless you use tor every site you visit has your ip, buckaroo.
Exactly.
Devaun doesn't use SystemD and therefore doesn't auto suspend on laptop close, how do I fix this?
Here is the link mega.nz
For the iso, i would suggest using Rufus to create a usb installer. For the activation tool, it as simple as doubble clicking on the .exe once the OS is installed, hitting OK (As the defualts should work), letting the green progrss bar at the bottom finish and then rebooting just to be shure.
The wiki (link is in the intro sticky) has the SHA1SUM for the .iso if you want to doubble check. To check the activatiool there is a .exe for it. The SHA256SUM is because of the author's personal perfence. To check SHA*SUMS I recommend QuickHash.
By master pages I assume you mean Templates? If so File > Templates > Manage > Right most icon (White page with a blue arrow pointing ot the right), which leads to templates.libreoffice.org
Hit the Templates tab and go from there.
That won't work becuase of the encryption that is used. All that will be download is a index file.
I would suggest either JDownloader (which uses Java and is what I use) or MegaTools (CLI Mega managemnt tools, which I haven't been able to install/use when I last tried.)
Check the Arch Wiki's page on Suspend and then see if you can script something togother.
if you encrypt your emails and use tor, just use cockmail really.
meant he should use some other site if he cares about privacy.
Mega is the only file host one that I know of that uses end user visable encryption as a major part of operation and support 50GIB on free accounts.Userscloud has the file size part down but the Chinese based may raise a few eye brows.
I would probably think the fan berings would go first. However the safe operating temperature of GPU`s are in the 90s I belive.
there are tons of simple file hosting who just upload the file to a server without much bullshit (i.e., pomf and its clones)
just encrypt the files yourself
What's a decent alternative to DownloadThemAll? Whenever I try using it on Holla Forums, it spits out 403 errors even though I can view them fine.
Alternativly, if you can use DTA for Firefox on Holla Forums, please list the exact version of FF and DTA you are using.
Maybe just moisture. Try topping it with silica gel.
Yes it would IF a router has verbose logs but if it's just a fucking IOT camera shit then go for it.
Why not use a proxy or just shodan it?
Unless you're planning on IPscanning your gateway's network IPs... proxies won't work.
what's your browser tho? is it palemoon?
just firefox(41.0.2) I remember trying palemoon for a while, I think I quit because it didn't play nice with all my add-ons and didn't seem like it was that much faster/used less resources.
When I connect to my server via putty there is a 90% chance the connection will time out the first time. However trying again has a 100% success rate.
What gives?
Then, enjoy your kernel level exploit for using non free font.
something related to the fingerprint your client is receiving from the server i imagine
I'm having glitches with mp4 on browser.
I enabled gstreamer so I can play mp4 files but the problem is they're playing sounds properly but pic related.
What happened? I can play videos before properly until some fucking program installed Mesa in my system now I can't remove them or I'll end up with black screen boot.
Wasn't really my question to be honest.
My question was: What's the difference on Ubuntu, and what is better for compatability work, because Libreoffice HATES working with the Microsoft-Formats and Open-Documents created by LibreOffice don't work well in other programms
