It's like Perl but not really.

PHP the programming language is an authentic engineering and design marvel developed by the misunderstood programming genius Rasmus Lerdorf.
It enables the greatest software of our daily lives to exist, and its greatness has attracted to it a wealth of extremely talented programmers across the globe.
Learning to master the intricacies of this delicate piece of technology, OP, guarantees you a promising future in the highest rewarding job opportunities in the IT business.
PHP was programmed in Hebrew
that's all you need to know fam
I'm not a real programmer. I throw together things until it works then I move on. The real programmers will say "Yeah it works but you're leaking memory everywhere. Perhaps we should fix that." I’ll just restart Apache every 10 requests.
I don't know how to stop it, there was never any intent to write a programming language [...] I have absolutely no idea how to write a programming language, I just kept adding the next logical step on the way.
There are people who actually like programming. I don't understand why they like programming.
-- Rasmus Lerdorf, creator of PHP
Somewhat worse than C/C++.

"For all the folks getting excited about my quotes. Here is another - Yes, I am a terrible coder, but I am probably still better than you :)"
-- Rasmus Lerdorf, creator of PHP
"I did not develop the PHP we know today. Dozens, if not hundreds of people, developed PHP. I was simply the first developer."
-- Rasmus Lerdorf, creator of PHP
If you're using PHP after 2003 you're either supporting legacy code or you're retarded.

Better than hanging yourself or shooting yourself, but it's not as good as giftgas.
Or you're a professional programmer.
PHP is great, just a bit on the slow side when many people are using your site at once.
I use Python for everything.™
I actually kind of admire his honesty.
It made sense for him to write it as he did. PHP stands for "Personal HomePage". I don't blame him for making it, but it's just not a good choice for most of the things it's used for now.
I'm a professional programmer and the only PHP I've written in years was to extend sites written in PHP. No one's asked for a new site to be started with PHP, but maybe mom & pop sites still do.
I spent an hour with Rasmus back in 1999... he mostly talked about the growth potential in online porn.
Best language ever made.
