It's much safer to not have a page file. Consider the two scenarios:

Page file: Chrome takes up all your RAM and turns your computer into a slideshow for several hours/days until it's finally able to regain control again.

No page file: Chrome takes up all your RAM and crashes, leaving the rest of your processes stable and running.

Spoken like a true poorfag trying to run a rig with RAM measured in MB in the current decade.

Spoken like a true bloat-whore

Software is the only thing that gets more inefficient and demanding with time.

That's not true, most of 8ch's userbase does too

Statically allocate your swap files to reduce fragmentation.

Is there actually any advantage of having a SWAP partition over a pagefile?

I imagine a swap partition uses a dedicated swap filesystem that has less I/O overhead than conventional filesystems

I set swapiness to 0, unless you are using a server or something it is irrelevant. SWAP is just additional virtual non addressable memory on top of the physical memory (RAM), if you have enough RAM for your programs you don't need swap at all.

SWAP is a raw partition, it is raw memory with no filesystem. You are right though, but if the file is allocated continuously and then cached by the filesystem driver/kernel the difference should be negligible, since the file won't change size.

Well, it is nice using tmpfs and having swap there in the background just in case.

What the fuck are you opening 500 tabs at a time for?

It's like opening 50 copies of Sony Vegas, trying to edit and render in all 50 of them, then whining about "SONY VEGAS IS BLOATWARE RESOURCE INEFFICIENT DUMB AND BAD"

Yes, the advantage is the implication of using a real OS.

Sounds like a dumbass who's happy with botnet doubling its memory usage every 3 months.

There is no reason to use swap today. It is nothing but harmful or misguided.

a lot of porn
I have like 700 between four windows right now, each time I bring the total below 150 is just goes rightback up

Keep telling yourself that nigger, does it make you feel better to pretend it's not your own fault your 64MB of RAM can't handle 500 tabs in a browser?

Holla Forums - stallmemes and technological illiteracy

I'm not the botnetfag, furryfox can handle it fine as long as a tab doesn't go full retard. it does use a fuckload of ram, but I don't give a single shit. I don't use it for anything else anyhow.
