What Are You Studying?

So what are you studying/what did you go to school for, Holla Forums?

Got my AAS in Electronics Technology (Electrical Technician with a bit of robotics coding and industrial CAD work).

The first couple years sucked, but I'm raking in some decent cash now with real-world experience off of an associates/certifications.

I'm planning to go back to school for Agricultural Science (focus on bovine health and treatment/stem cell meat) with a minor in the Russian language.

I am not studying anything.

So what are you currently doing, user?

Don't tell me you're a filthy NEET.

...

Mathematics are worthy of respect, but they aren't god-tier. Same with MechEs and ChemEs.

Anything Mid-tier and up is respectable to be fair, fam.

working, not smart enough to get anything in stem, so I don't really have any reason to go.

STEM is overrated, or rather, the SEM part of STEM is overrated.

Plenty of associates that will get you a better income and you don't have to be super smart to do- I included a number of them in the list, user.

Then I disagree with philosophy and political science. They are great example of shit tier studies.

Don't need more income. No point in spending money to make more money I don't need.
plus I am also planning on blowing my head off in the next few years, and I have never liked school. Would want to spend my last few years there.

Wouldn't want*

Western Civilization was built on the backs of philosophers.

You can buy nicer things and have some put to the side though.

Programs like Auto Collisions Technology are not like traditional schooling.

Plus you could buy a fancier gun to off yourself with.

Why the fuck haven't you killed yourself already if you're just going to be apathetic about it all?

Autodidactic Study:

I'm studying Constitutional "Common" Law, Dentistry, and Nutrition

No interest in Dentistry, I think its a witch doctor profession

Don't need nicer things. If I have: sustenance, shelter, and internet, then I am happy.

I don't like doing anything. The class could come with a free blowjob every time I come to class. Still wouldn't be motivated.

Body hasn't stared to deteriorate yet. No point to existence, incentive to ending a wretched one.

Sounds more like you're just apathetic and need a good acid trip to kick you back into gear.

I graduated with a degree in geography last Spring. I was scared to graduate but things worked out pretty well for me.

Gee, I guess the other ones must be pretty important stuff.

Why?

Especially the wisdom teeth scare. They are too alertist.
What do you think of orthodontistry? I don't trust most.

I think geography is very useful/respectable when combined with cartography, it's just one of those degrees that if you're not pretty sure of yourself/what you want to do with it, and what you can do with it, it's not very useful. It's like how communications can be a very useful degree if you combine it with foreign languages or business, but by itself it only has a few select uses that most people don't take it for.

Criminal Justice is taken for one of three reasons usually.

1) You're trying to enter law enforcement or a similar organization, in which case a biology/chemistry/business degree with a criminal justice minor/focus would be a lot more useful.

2) You're trying to get into law school, in which case it's a pretty crummy degree that you're only using as a stepping stone, sort of like people who do biology to get into medical school.

3) You're trying to get involved with global politics/a group such as the CIA, and are studying foreign languages (among other things) on the side.

The third example if one of the few times Criminal Justice is a useful degree, otherwise it's just a shitty stepping stone or the slacker's method for getting into the workforce.

With cooking, you are learning a life skill in a professional manner such that you are able to apply it for a living or do further research into it in a respectable manner. If you go to school for cooking and are not just a cook, you are learning things such as how to use differences in wines to subtly flavor a dish, or how to decorate a dish in such a way to increase its sale value. The grill cook at Golden Corral might not be the most respectable position, but a professional cook can go far in the world and live comfortably/raise a family.

Consider the biomedical technician that I listed under god-tier. A BMET is just a glorified electrical technician (AAS) with some biology/cardiology under his belt, yet I have him on equal footing with an Engineer (BS/MS) even though the BMET only goes to school for two years.

Professionally, history. In my free time, anything I can get my hands on.

I'm one class short of being able to minor in and teach English in my state, and I'm conflicted about whether I should pursue anthropology or archaeology for a doctorate.

Geography is one of the most versatile and criminally underrated majors in higher education.
One of my professors taught world geography and was blown away when he talked about the possibilities. I had considered making it my minor at one point.

I used to be a Neet, now I'm an apprentice of Electrician, my I'm fucking exhausted.
I miss the days of massive shitposting, masturbating, eating garbage and watching MLP.

I have gotten my firsts shocks already.

That fucker is so lucky he wasn't instantaneously zapped to death like a fly.

Journalism. But im not white or european.

I'm Scared of studding Industrial electrician because of that video.

Haha, gotta love those.

Luckily my first shocks were on charged capacitors that my friends tossed at me, so the shocks were only enough to knock me down for a bit.

Well, putting aside the time we made a 555 timer stun gun using audio transformers.

At least the death is relatively quick. It's just maybe a couple seconds of excrutiating pain to the point where your mind goes completely blank, save for the feeling of a billion vibrating needles pulsing through your entire body. There are definitely worse deaths out there.

Referring to this one?

Vid related.

On the bright side, high voltage is strong enough that it'll either pass right through you or send you flying assuming it doesn't kill you instantly.

Industrial-scale high voltage isn't what you should be scared of. 120-240 house voltage is what you should be scared of since your muscles will clamp instead getting shot backwards from the strength of it. Grab onto an electrified pole hard enough and you'll be fried to death assuming your heart doesn't give out first.

Also, you'll already be long dead when you violently burst into flames.

Definitely this.

They wake you up faster than caffeine.
I wonder how they feel.
That would be Interesting to watch.

Yeah… but I don’t want to die, I want to watch Humans become Cyborgs.
Drowning and Boiled to Death.

That sounds horrendous.

Painful, but a lot less painful than a wall shock. More shocking pardon the pun since it's a more instantaneous release.

There's vids of folks making them on youtube, fewer vids of people testing them (though they're also there).

Well, that's worse case scenario. One of my mentors was fixing a fish tank when he was in his 60s and didn't think about safety since he was at his house at the time. Stuck his hand into the fishtank while the circuit was live and his hand got stuck for several seconds before his body finally fell over from being off-balance. He was limping for two weeks afterwards, but was otherwise fine.

Another one worked for Intel Processor's doping laboratories in their gas department. The pay was great (upwards of 107k), but he was working with gasses that could kill him before he would ever smell them. He was pretty much safe though since they were in heavy hazmat suits most of the time.

Moral of the story: Almost all injuries and deaths are when you space out on safety when it comes to industrial jobs. There will be some risks involved in case something goes wrong, but you should be more worried about what the other guy did wrong before you/read his notes if his setup is different than schematics (he might be right). If a manager or supervisor ever tells you to do something dangerous, you are within your rights as an industrial employee virtually everywhere except China and some parts of Africa- yes even countries in Africa have electrician/electrical technician safety standards to tell them to go fuck themselves, and report them to human resources/OSHA (or the equivalent depending on if you're in the Middle East, Europe, etc.) if they try to threaten you with your job/make you do it anyways.

It's great work that'll keep you alive and healthy so long as you don't skimp on safety.

Electricity.

I'm not studying anything right now but i have access to free college and I'm not sure what i should learn.

I have interests in woodworking, metal work, car work, computers and fixing shit in general. Thing is I'm retarded when i comes to math i couldn't pass anything past algebra 1 in high school and even that was difficult for me.
What are some things i should look into? I'm looking at just getting certificates so i don't have to do the basics because i know I will never be able to get past the math.

Please help me out Holla Forums, I feel like I'm wasting my opportunity of free college shit but i just don't what i should learn.

You should firstly relearn math. Try Khan Academy or read this book. Take notes, make flashcards, create your own problems and figure it out until you feel you've got algebra by its fucking nerd balls.

I believe in you, user.

Well I'll be honest, if Ohm's Law looks too advanced for you, you'll have issues. Basic algebra is the most advanced math you need for most trade skills. A little Trigonometry helps though.

Considering what you like, I'd look into machining for metal work, maybe with a CAD (computer-aided drafting) focus so you can apply it in the real world/get more advanced machines to make the parts for you. Machining skills transfer over to woodworking pretty nicely.

Auto work is usually split into Auto Body and Auto Collision. "car work" tends to fall under Auto Body.

What part of computers do you like? If you like to work on hardware, consider Electrical Technician/Electronics Technology. If you like working on software, consider an AAS (associates of applied science) in Computer Science.

If you like fixing machines, then HVAC is your friend.

You need to be more specific with your "handyman" stuff. Ask yourself if you want to do it as a hobby or for a living- everything I've suggested can be learned "at home" as a hobby with the right resources, but you need proper training to make a living off of it.

All the courses I've recommended are certification courses, though many community colleges will offer them as an AAS with some general core classes (English, business algebra, maybe a communications class) mixed in.

Mill machinist looks fun.

I am studying nothing. I tried community college but I sucked at it. I will never ever go to school again. I cannot bear to disappoint myself again.

I cannot even commit myself to anything because I don't even know what I want to do with my life.

I envy people that make more money than me so much. I smile and say hello back, but on the inside I am seething with rage. Is my discontent not obvious enough? It is only natural for me to feel animosity in your presence. Please do not try to dispel it with cheap conversation. Leave my misery in peace.

But yeah, user see

I'm willing to tutor you in basic algebra so you can make sense of it if you'd like, as would a lot of Holla Forums probably. I promise most algebra is pretty simple if you have the right teacher/the drive to learn it. There's guys who went through my electronics technology courses from the military who couldn't do basic algebra. It was a pain in the ass, but the algebra helped them understand how the hardware worked on a more technical level, making them able to do their jobs better later on.

Go to a trade school/learn a trade. You'll earn a lot more money and it's not really like "school" at all, bro.

fucking kill me. I'm 20 and it's the only thing I'm good at in this world.I'm going to community college in fall.

fibers and textiles

What do you want to do with it? How good is your math?

Have you considered materials engineering?

Anguish and regret is your future.

That's not a bad degree by the way, depending on how you plan to use it.

My math skills are utter shit.

I want to work in a mix of the fiber production and fabric acquisition end of it. Securing contracts for exclusive fabrics while creating different blends with different weaves.

The denim industry is fucking gorgeous now, as an example. I can buy thermochromatic selvedge denim. I can buy 24 oz left hand kevlar. I can buy chambray pineapple fabric blended 10 oz superlight selvedge. I can buy waxed linen jackets for a fair price. I can fucking buy heavy denim with cashmere linings for extra warmth.

Hell, the other day, I talked with a guy with a gorgeous silk/linen jacket lined with, not bemberg-but silk- lining. Fucking crazy shit.

That's pretty fucking cool, honestly.

What the fuck are you

How did you get the job, OP? Are you a normal faggot?

>(((Einstein)))

Beyond "fashion" shit. The fashion industry is fucking cool. I don't own anything (except my rain jacket) that utilizes synthetic fibers. Dyes are cool, fabrics are gorgeous, fabric mills are neat, and artisan craftsmen make it all that much sweeter. The clothing industry used to be good, high quality shit all around until, idunno, we started exporting everything under the sun in the sixties. I have 50 year old shoes in tip top condition, even.

*Said wearing a 100% linen collared button-up sourced from either belgium or ireland made in italy, 12 oz indigo selvedge 100% cotton jeans from cone mills USA for Lucky Brand (meh) , and wool socks (germany).

Also the best sweaters in the world are woven in scotland/england, believe it or not. I've got 3 pair.

He's a fucking symbol of math and science– get over it you actual retard. Fine, keep being a dumb nigger at algebra.

I wouldn't say I'm a normalfag, but years of lifting weights and blending in with minimum wage folks who lifted TVs and shit for a living taught me how to hide my autism in most scenarios.

Just gotta take on the shit-tier jobs while looking for the right job.

See

Looking thru the contents i realized I'm a bit better at basic algebra than i thought but there is still quite a lot in there that looks foreign to me. I should clarify a bit more i guess. I suck ass at math that is just for the sake of math, actual real world shit I'm a bit better at. Things like angles, shapes, and whatnot.

I like hardware but I would like to try out software too, my only worry for software is if there is some hard math involved.

I know that's my problem. I like to fix things and know how things work. I've taken things apart and rebuilt them since i was 3 years old.
A lot of this stuff is just a hobby I have or want to have but can't afford, but i don't have enough experience or knowledge to know what i want to do exactly. That's why I'm just throwing everything i like out there in hopes that maybe one of them might be more than a hobby and can lead to a career other than being a security guard which I'm not even official yet, I've been waiting months on my license to come in

It does look fun.

I'd appreciate tutoring, not quite sure how that would work out.

I haven't been on IRC lately, but we could use the Holla Forums channel. Or I could go make a throwaway email on cock.li to use for tutoring purposes hell, we could even create a tutoring board if you want to have something a little more centralized.

Well there doesn't seem to be a /tutor/ or /tutoring/ already.

Aight, well I need to get some sleep, but if the thread is gone by tomorrow morning/afternoon, contact me at [email protected]/* */

It's a beautiful morning here.

That list is shit tier OP

I'M STUDYING OP'S ANUS

Robotics Engineering, so basically EE with more servos. I think Econ should be god tier though, look at Mises or Sowell, and also Mathematics should be god.

I'm not putting Adam Smith and Marx in the same tier as Mises and Sowell.

I refuse to put mathematics or a blanket "engineering" group as many usually request into the god-level tiers. I've found that this is the quickest way to devaluate good points of study that happen to fall outside the standard StEM fields.t being lower case because we really don't focus on technology enough when it comes to STEM, and put too much focus on studying.

studying medicine

Political Science + Economics specialist.
Want to get into working as a diplomat so I'm trying to learn French and Japanese.

African French, or France French?

Going for medical school or for something else?

Not the other guy but you're retarded. It's culinary ARTS. it has as much, if less, use as any other arts degree.

This is a site for white men only. leave.

Currently in highschool, likely going to go to college for EE or CompSci.

With that said, Any anons that could suggest a path for me to follow? Intelligent replies appreciated.

Parisian French

I am currently studying French and Old Norse. After French I will study Italian, Spanish, and Latin, though I have not yet decided on what order to study them in. After Old Norse I will study Icelandic, Nynorsk and Bokmal Norwegian (I already know a small amount of basic Bokmal), Danish, and Swedish. I will probably also try learning some Old English and Middle English. I have developed quite a bit of interest in languages which also allows me to learn a good deal about history and historic perspectives. I am a NEET so I have not gone to school for anything. I spend a lot of my time learning things that I find interesting. I also spend time reading about politics and the presidential election. I also like to read texts from different religions, mostly 'occult' and pagan ones. I would like to keep expanding my mathematical and and scientific knowledge but my interests have been more focused on language, history, politics, perspective, and philosophy for about the past year.

The ARTS were what progressed your backwards ass out of the dark ages by finding lost and ancient documents/doctrines from Rome and Greece faggot. Learn some fucking history about higher education.

Maths breaks into two branches, pure and applied. Pure is possibly the most autistic and intangible to the average person topic on earth. Applied is basically phyics which is god tier. You can dislike it personally but maths deserves to be god tier.

What year of HS? not trying to get you banned but need to know this.

You should try to take an economics course and honors physics if your school offers it and you plan on going the EE route. Take calculus in High School if you can, it's a pain in the ass in Uni since you won't have a professor to help you learn it. If you plan on going the CS route, take AP Composition (English). This sounds stupid, but AP English Composition will help you with the coding and logical aspects of CS. Begin learning basic HTML and similar stuff through coding academy (website) or a similar online learning tool to make CS easier as well.

You fucking retard. On the chart itself it ranks "art" as low tier, and cooking as mid tier. They should be on the same tier because they have the same potential for use dipshit. learn to reading comprehension and then kill yourself worthless faggot.

gouge your fucking eyes out dumb nigger. You are the cancer that is ruining college education as a whole and you need to raise the average global iq by commiting suicide.

That would be to the credit of archeology and the histories. literally nothing to conceivably have to do with art, unless you were there when that happened and can give me an explanation. are you even old enough to have been to college? do you understand the concept of this thread? or are you just a stuck up pseudointellectual middle schooler?

...

nothing to do with the conversation, which is about culinary arts ranking higher than other arts. do you just spout shit and hope it makes sense in the context of whatever you're replying to?

samefag

As I said, arts are not the same thing as art.

And just as not all engineers are made equal, neither are art using your own autistic definition of it.

nice rebuttal of all the individual arguments in the posts

in practice cooking has as much practical professional use as, say, painting. most arts are as useful, if not less at out of being more niche, as Art.

probably the other two considering their agressive response but not me

I see three posts from a samefag going full autismo and spazzing out, one of them trying to separate their preferred studies from the term BA, y'know, Bachelor of Arts.

You don't need professional training not a degree necessarily, but professional training to be a painter. A degree is just social signalling.

You pretty much need professional training for the culinary arts if you want to be really good at it unless you're a savant.

Fuck, I meant to imply that an art degree is social signaling and not really tied to skill these days.

I just finished my Junior year. For the trigger happy mods, I am 18. I plan on taking AP Physics next year. There is almost no way to take Calc as I was forced to take Algebra 1 during my freshman year as the Algebra II classes were full. (34+ students, no desks available)

I have since moved to a private school and completed the AP Computer Science course. In line to take pre-calculus, I'll look into taking calc, but it maybe biting off more than I can chew. There is no high level composition course offered at my school. I plan on doing an independent study project next year with my CS teacher to learn C.

Where does that sit me?

so you want to try to address the things brought up in the points or just sperg about spooky scary samfags like a retarded faggot? Because if you want to do the latter there's no reason for me to give your pathetic ass any (you)s.

Really well off for CS, I'm surprised they'll let you take AP Physics since Calculus is pretty much required for the calculations in AP Physics. Was pretty much in the same boat back in HS (I was going for MechE before I dropped out at the end of my Sophomore year of Uni for family reasons/became an Electrical Tech).

If you have a lot of issues with AP physics, EE will be extremely difficult. Only thing I'd recommend is taking a look at something like MatLab if you get the opportunity.

Huge generalization imo. If that's the case what would they even do in class? Just teach you networking and the business/social environment of painting? Sure, you could learn painting on your own, no degree required, but you could do the same for cooking as well.

I know a guy who got a bachelors in "Comparative Religions" was literally the largest waste of time and money I've ever seen.

And rightfully so!

also know a fag who majored in Drama. wtf

Thanks user :)

Studying mathematics.
The idea mathematics is not God tier is fucking retarded.
Literally getting paid to stare into space thinking all day.

fuck ur shit. I'm studying Whiteboard Construction. You can't do your job without me.

I couldn't do my job without the vast majority of people. The fact is, for some fucked up reason, society pays me to do something that is of literally no value to them but that I happen to love. I'm so grateful for everyone who does actual work so I don't have to.

fuck ur shit I am all of the people paying you. I am everybody. Everybody is me. Including you. I am you. I am we.

thanks autism, we know, you speak

Do not fear me

anyone can do maths user,
I failed every math course in highschool,
did some math classes post highschool,
learned calculus and such,
now I have a phd in mathematics
