So what are you studying/what did you go to school for, Holla Forums?

Got my AAS in Electronics Technology (Electrical Technician with a bit of robotics coding and industrial CAD work).

The first couple years sucked, but I'm raking in some decent cash now with real-world experience off of an associates/certifications.

I'm planning to go back to school for Agricultural Science (focus on bovine health and treatment/stem cell meat) with a minor in the Russian language.

I am not studying anything.

Mathematics are worthy of respect, but they aren't god-tier. Same with MechEs and ChemEs.

Anything Mid-tier and up is respectable to be fair, fam.

I graduated with a degree in geography last Spring. I was scared to graduate but things worked out pretty well for me.

I think geography is very useful/respectable when combined with cartography, it's just one of those degrees that if you're not pretty sure of yourself/what you want to do with it, and what you can do with it, it's not very useful. It's like how communications can be a very useful degree if you combine it with foreign languages or business, but by itself it only has a few select uses that most people don't take it for.

Criminal Justice is taken for one of three reasons usually.

1) You're trying to enter law enforcement or a similar organization, in which case a biology/chemistry/business degree with a criminal justice minor/focus would be a lot more useful.

2) You're trying to get into law school, in which case it's a pretty crummy degree that you're only using as a stepping stone, sort of like people who do biology to get into medical school.

3) You're trying to get involved with global politics/a group such as the CIA, and are studying foreign languages (among other things) on the side.

The third example if one of the few times Criminal Justice is a useful degree, otherwise it's just a shitty stepping stone or the slacker's method for getting into the workforce.

With cooking, you are learning a life skill in a professional manner such that you are able to apply it for a living or do further research into it in a respectable manner. If you go to school for cooking and are not just a cook, you are learning things such as how to use differences in wines to subtly flavor a dish, or how to decorate a dish in such a way to increase its sale value. The grill cook at Golden Corral might not be the most respectable position, but a professional cook can go far in the world and live comfortably/raise a family.

Consider the biomedical technician that I listed under god-tier. A BMET is just a glorified electrical technician (AAS) with some biology/cardiology under his belt, yet I have him on equal footing with an Engineer (BS/MS) even though the BMET only goes to school for two years.

Professionally, history. In my free time, anything I can get my hands on.

I'm one class short of being able to minor in and teach English in my state, and I'm conflicted about whether I should pursue anthropology or archaeology for a doctorate.

Geography is one of the most versatile and criminally underrated majors in higher education.
One of my professors taught world geography and was blown away when he talked about the possibilities. I had considered making it my minor at one point.

Industrial-scale high voltage isn't what you should be scared of. 120-240 house voltage is what you should be scared of since your muscles will clamp instead getting shot backwards from the strength of it. Well, that's worse case scenario. One of my mentors was fixing a fish tank when he was in his 60s and didn't think about safety since he was at his house at the time. Stuck his hand into the fishtank while the circuit was live and his hand got stuck for several seconds before his body finally fell over from being off-balance. He was limping for two weeks afterwards, but was otherwise fine.

Another one worked for Intel Processor's doping laboratories in their gas department. The pay was great (upwards of 107k), but he was working with gasses that could kill him before he would ever smell them. He was pretty much safe though since they were in heavy hazmat suits most of the time.

Moral of the story: Almost all injuries and deaths are when you space out on safety when it comes to industrial jobs. There will be some risks involved in case something goes wrong, but you should be more worried about what the other guy did wrong before you/read his notes if his setup is different than schematics (he might be right). If a manager or supervisor ever tells you to do something dangerous, you are within your rights as an industrial employee virtually everywhere except China and some parts of Africa- yes even countries in Africa have electrician/electrical technician safety standards to tell them to go fuck themselves, and report them to human resources/OSHA (or the equivalent depending on if you're in the Middle East, Europe, etc.) if they try to threaten you with your job/make you do it anyways.

It's great work that'll keep you alive and healthy so long as you don't skimp on safety.

I'm not studying anything right now but i have access to free college and I'm not sure what i should learn.

I have interests in woodworking, metal work, car work, computers and fixing shit in general. Thing is I'm retarded when i comes to math i couldn't pass anything past algebra 1 in high school and even that was difficult for me.
What are some things i should look into? I'm looking at just getting certificates so i don't have to do the basics because i know I will never be able to get past the math.

You should firstly relearn math. Try Khan Academy or read this book. Take notes, make flashcards, create your own problems and figure it out until you feel you've got algebra by its fucking nerd balls.

Well I'll be honest, if Ohm's Law looks too advanced for you, you'll have issues. Basic algebra is the most advanced math you need for most trade skills. A little Trigonometry helps though.

Considering what you like, I'd look into machining for metal work, maybe with a CAD (computer-aided drafting) focus so you can apply it in the real world/get more advanced machines to make the parts for you. Machining skills transfer over to woodworking pretty nicely.

Auto work is usually split into Auto Body and Auto Collision. "car work" tends to fall under Auto Body.

What part of computers do you like? If you like to work on hardware, consider Electrical Technician/Electronics Technology. If you like working on software, consider an AAS (associates of applied science) in Computer Science.

If you like fixing machines, then HVAC is your friend.

You need to be more specific with your "handyman" stuff. Ask yourself if you want to do it as a hobby or for a living- everything I've suggested can be learned "at home" as a hobby with the right resources, but you need proper training to make a living off of it.

All the courses I've recommended are certification courses, though many community colleges will offer them as an AAS with some general core classes (English, business algebra, maybe a communications class) mixed in.

I'm willing to tutor you in basic algebra so you can make sense of it if you'd like, as would a lot of Holla Forums probably. I promise most algebra is pretty simple if you have the right teacher/the drive to learn it. There's guys who went through my electronics technology courses from the military who couldn't do basic algebra. It was a pain in the ass, but the algebra helped them understand how the hardware worked on a more technical level, making them able to do their jobs better later on.

Go to a trade school/learn a trade. You'll earn a lot more money and it's not really like "school" at all, bro.

Looking thru the contents i realized I'm a bit better at basic algebra than i thought but there is still quite a lot in there that looks foreign to me. I should clarify a bit more i guess. I suck ass at math that is just for the sake of math, actual real world shit I'm a bit better at. Things like angles, shapes, and whatnot.

I like hardware but I would like to try out software too, my only worry for software is if there is some hard math involved.

I know that's my problem. I like to fix things and know how things work. I've taken things apart and rebuilt them since i was 3 years old.
A lot of this stuff is just a hobby I have or want to have but can't afford, but i don't have enough experience or knowledge to know what i want to do exactly. Take calculus in High School if you can, it's a pain in the ass in Uni since you won't have a professor to help you learn it. If you plan on going the CS route, take AP Composition (English). This sounds stupid, but AP English Composition will help you with the coding and logical aspects of CS. Begin learning basic HTML and similar stuff through coding academy (website) or a similar online learning tool to make CS easier as well.

I just finished my Junior year. For the trigger happy mods, I am 18. I plan on taking AP Physics next year. There is almost no way to take Calc as I was forced to take Algebra 1 during my freshman year as the Algebra II classes were full. (34+ students, no desks available)

I have since moved to a private school and completed the AP Computer Science course. In line to take pre-calculus, I'll look into taking calc, but it maybe biting off more than I can chew. There is no high level composition course offered at my school. I plan on doing an independent study project next year with my CS teacher to learn C.

Really well off for CS, I'm surprised they'll let you take AP Physics since Calculus is pretty much required for the calculations in AP Physics. Was pretty much in the same boat back in HS (I was going for MechE before I dropped out at the end of my Sophomore year of Uni for family reasons/became an Electrical Tech).

If you have a lot of issues with AP physics, EE will be extremely difficult. Only thing I'd recommend is taking a look at something like MatLab if you get the opportunity.
