I don't see where the "huge and bulky" comes into play because you can pretty much cram any setup to a smaller case than any of the consoles and still have them excel at everything better than a console. The size of the machine depends of the choices of the buyer. Also, wouldnt it take much more space if you bought a slightly improved version of the same console each year, rather than buying one case which' innards you upgrade whenever you have the need?

PS4 has plenty of games. In fact Shenmue 3 is the number 1 reason why I own a PS4. Been a fan of Shenmue since the Dreamcast. There is a PC version, but playing it on a console feels more natural.

Multiple OS's? I'm fine with the OS the PS4 has right now. I shouldn't have to choose between multiple OS when it should be just one OS installed already. As for emulation, that's what my old gen consoles are for. It's meant to play the games naturally, not through emulation. Besides, PC's can't emulate light gun games because that requires a CRT TV with a light gun controller. Tons of old games? I have tons of old games that still work. In fact I can play both my PS1 and PS2 games on my PS3.

I am at a loss with what you try to say. With upgrades, do you mean OS? You don't have to buy every single windows OS and for most games you don't even need that. PC rigs get cheaper at a quicker pace than consoles and there are no fees for online play so I don't get the "expensive husk" thing either. Simply put, if there was a console which would perform on the highest graphical settings current games offer, but it costed 1200 bucks, would you buy it? No? Then why tall about expensive PCs at all? You don't need to pay much to get a decent thing which can compete with consoles, also it has all bonus features / baggage included.

So what exactly is your point?
My PC is 9 years old, and so far Overwatch is the only game I would like to but can't play (no x64 OS). That's my anecdote to justify not buying expensive stuff.

The PS4 falls only so slightly behind the PC in graphics. You turn just a few settings down, like you would on that budget PC, and you would effectively be running a more expensive PS4.

People talk about how you can make a "console killer" for $3-400 and wow, it plays so much smoother than PS4 when graphics are on the lowest settings. If you want equivalent gaming power on your PC, you ARE going to pay extra. I've never seen a budget PC wipe the floor with the PS4 at the same graphics levels.

And for the games that you can really tell the difference, such as games that have really high draw distance, there's almost as many bad PC ports and poorly optimized games on the PC.

I use to really like consoles, but my interest in them faded away with the sixth gen consoles. Originally consoles had things that PC didn't have (while PC also had things that consoles didn't have), but now consoles have the disadvantages of PC while also not having the advantages of PC, also all these genres and franchises that originally were only on consoles get released on PC now too, and consoles no longer have strong hardware for their time, they're weak as shit and behind in terms of power before they even come out.
