1) We CANNOT survive in the long-term (read: the next 5 years) without being on Google. This ONLY leads to the userbase dwindling, not increasing.

2) Jim absolutely needs to do something about the CP bots. Once again, this leads to the userbase dwindling, and again leads to problems. Instead of having the captcha be solved ONCE per every IP. Instead, how about: for every [RANDOM NUMBER BETWEEN 10 AND 100] post, the user must solve the captcha. Once the user solves a captcha, a DIFFERENT random number is picked. So maybe you post 13 times then have to solve a captcha, Then after you solve it, you can post 55 more times before you solve the captcha again. Then 30 times. Then 78 times. And the number you solve is different for every IP address. Etc.

3) Ban younglove/phile/all images related pedo content, regardless of whether or not it passes the DOST test. If it's just text, then that's different, but this shit drives AWAY people from the community. Again, without a larger population, we simply can't survive long term.

4) Innovate – We really need something that will help set us apart from other imageboards, aside from the fact that multiple boards can be created. I'm thinking about the idea that allowing gb/gbc/gba/nes/snes roms to be uploaded in place of the .swf files that were removed. Since these roms can be hacked/modified, interesting ideas/topics/themes could be created and ideas could be shown (read: free speech if its a rom hack, with something unique to our site).

5) Potentially rewrite Holla Forums/use lynxchan. This site just hasn't scaled well over the years, which has lead to users leaving. Something really needs to be done about this.

6) Information (community driven) – We need to better inform users how to create OC. This includes how to get video editing software (such as Sony Vegas or Premiere) and how to edit pictures (ie. photoshop/GIMP), how to create webms, etc.

I know some of these are controversial and some will be universally disliked, but lets be completely genuine here. Put your personal biases aside and think about the actual health of the website. What good will Holla Forums be if it's completely dead?

I'm always going to criticize the system of letting the users create new boards on a imageboard. There is no reason to decentralize the userbase outside of the random board except when people are already involved in a project like goygate or some niche interests like anime, something that actually requires a new -and specific- set of rules or mentality of the userbase.

Keeping old boards is also a awful idea and honestly I don't see a single good reason to keep them for more than a week of inactivity, if possible the number of user-created boards should be encouraged to be always less than 20, this is going to encourage new people to check already existent boards that no one cares about like some people are bitching about ITT.

Spamming/adverting your new board in a defined catalog of boards and pray for more people to automatically join it is dumb, a dedicated community of posters is build naturally.

What made Holla Forums great was that it was a place where we could weather the storm of GamerGate when we realized our original safe space wasn't quite as safe as we thought. Remember the first few days of being here? The collective feeling of relief/joy was incredible. It was a place for all, united under a cripple who was one of us, rather than just /admin/.

I honestly think what has happened is the new has worn off the toy for some. Owners/admins/volunteers have changed. Intrests have become obscured or have shifted. Jim provoked Holla Forums and pedos, as well as made legitimate people leave because of his power trip, but he didn't really kill Holla Forums at all. Most people that 'left' were pedos like Lowcard and such, but notice how most people that weren't from Holla Forums or /hebe/ never actually left. A few non-Holla Forums non-pedo people said that "Holla Forums IS DYING EXODUS" to troll, but they never really left. I noticed that Holla Forums actually died around the time of Josh's failed migration. The lack of PPH on Holla Forums is due to the lack of spam now. A year ago, I was part of Holla Forums and a spammer because I was a much, much higher-scale degenerate then, and now I've realized that Holla Forums was wrong. Sorry for being part of the problem guys, but I'm trying to make up for it in ways, just ask what you will and tell me what you think would make Holla Forums better if I became mod. I'd try removing Holla Forums and CP if a Holla Forums mod, and CP if I were a global moderator.

Ive got some ideas too about innovation. Im currently putting together a small team to help work on this kind of thing. I really like all the suggestions people are throwing out there.

4chan has had years of coding experience from the most skilled programmers on 4chan, and even Holla Forums's most skilled hackers are just 4chan's norm in programming. If we ever really thought of hacking 4chan, we would need a lot of planning, since the site is one of the most well-programmed sites on the entire internet.

Like what said as well, feds would be watching 4chan, and their technology is getting more advanced every hour, so even a VPN-enclosed computer w/ encryption w/ custom ISP in a remote island (computer and ISP) you have to fly 1000 miles in a helicopter to reach, they'd still catch you in about a year, since the hacking game is pretty much over.

How do I evade a 4chan ban? I'll work with Plan Fuck Up 4chan if I know how to evade. I've been evading by finding the occasional open proxy that actually works, but I'm curious if there's a consistent VPN that works. If I use PIA or something like that, then I'm sure tons of normalfags have used that to ban evade and got almost all the nodes banned. My IP address is static, and I've done research to make myself less obvious to the mods when I'm ban evading.

I feel while I was still browsing 4chan, though I had a preference for a set of boards, I could visit other boards for something new every now and then. But here, the smaller boards are generally stagnant.

I don't mean demonizing Holla Forums, it's true that some have gotten very extreme with a persecution complex (low birth rates among white people, media biased against the political right), but the whole Holla Forums and Holla Forums divide is a terrible idea in the big picture though I can see there were some conflicts regarding moderation. Every time I see Holla Forums or /lefytpol/ get out, it's very much telling someone with a different opinion to get out and reinforcing an echochamber.

Enabling post ID is the second closest thing to making a person sign up to use your website.

It would get rid of a lot of the things people can do such as bumping their own thread, replying to their-self, trolling others. etc. Sure these things aren't all so great, but enabling a feature which restricts a little bit of freedom doesn't sound like a great idea to me. I've been here long enough to see what happens when post ID's and I can't say I like it. Even if I do like something, I'm not going to force it if others don't.

I'm on board, OP. We really do need to make a concentrated effort to make Holla Forums better. Honestly, over the past six months this place has been getting more and more unbearable. It seems like anytime there's a good conversation going on in any of the top boards, it's not too long before it gets shitposted into oblivion. Not the good kind of shitposting either, it's always the same low effort d&c stuff where it's someone pretending to Holla Forums, Holla Forums, /a/ etc in an attempt to derail everything. There's just constant shitposting with the purpose of trying to start interboard feuding.

It also seems that anytime a thread about making OC pops up on any of the boards, it becomes filled with people trying to discourage it. Just look at this thread and all the posts that amount to "THIS IS STUPID, KILL YOURSELF FAGGOT LULZ". Granted, that kind of shit is to be expected on Holla Forums, but it becomes overwhelming on other boards when you're actually trying to accomplish something.

Holla Forums, for example. There's been multiple attempts to get operations running to go after companies that are censoring games. Every time they start organizing, the thread is shill bombed with "This is stupid, you'll never accomplish anything." I remember a couple threads where there was one guy with over 200 posts to his ID, all of them saying some variation of "Who cares, get a life, nerds!"

I came here with the GG exodus. I stayed because I enjoyed board creation. Over time I realized nothing I could do was going to make my boards active. I had one board that at it's most active had a community of like 16 people. I loved that, but the effort I was putting into each board didn't justify the returns. I was spending hours a day dumping images, making threads, filling requests, and at a certain point it felt pointless, especially as I watched so many other little boards die. I swore to never go back to 4chan because I felt the site was compromised, but it saddens me that there are only really maybe six or seven active boards here that really interest me, and discussion is still agonizingly slow on them. Even beyond that, the staff at /a/ and Holla Forums suck shit through a straw.

At a certain point one of my boards was claimed by another owner. I'd been inactive on it, so I let it go. Before long all my boards were out of my control. I realize I could e-mail to get them back but I thought "maybe these new owners will make them work" but of course, they did worse than me and gave up much quicker.

Then what killed it for me for a while was all the technical difficulties. The site is mostly stable these days, but the site infrequently working killed traffic for a long time. There was some drama with staff, but as long as the platform worked I didn't care. At long as this site's mission statement was still freedom of speech.

They got rid of most of the pedos, and honestly that's a good thing. I hated their threads.

The problem is nothing posted on Holla Forums is ever good these days. None of it's funny, it's all repetitive and autistic shitposting. Forced memes and degenerate fetishes. I come to Holla Forums and what's the first thing I have to do? Hide a furry thread, hide a trap thread, hide a cuckold porn thread, hide a pony thread, hide a dick thread, hide a "queen of Holla Forums" thread, hide a thread with whatever Holla Forums's latest unfunny forced meme is, hide a pig/whining about Jim thread.

Several of those I wouldn't have cared enough to hide, but that's all the front page is every fucking day now, and maybe a webm thread or a retarded story thread. Holla Forums sucks in a way I've never seen it suck before.

These guys have been spamming all day long every single day for almost 2 years straight. They will evade within 30 seconds of being banned. If I disable duplicate images they will edit 1 pixel at a time. If captcha is enabled they will type them and spam slowly. If I limit how many threads that can be posted per hour it will just fill up within 5 minutes every hour and nobody else can post.

There is nothing I have thought of that works to stop them.

Sharing ROM files are illegal and could land Holla Forums in some hot water. Tthis would be an incredible feature to encourage growth on the gaming boards (and potentially a niche hacking community)though. Change it to patch files (Such as .ips files for .gba) and you have my support.
