Why do I sleep 12 hours every day?
I hypothesized that maybe I'm different from Homo Sapiens, that I belong to the Newtype race. You see, we Newtypes use our brains more than our subhuman counterparts (homo sapiens) and therefore need more sleep to balance that higher mental usage.

As a biology-major I can tell you right now that there is no real way to steer human evolution in the way you are using the word.
The theory of evolution basically explains how populations(NOT individuals) change over long periods of time as a result of selection pressures of the environment on any species.
At best you're talking about metamorphosis, which would make that specific individual unable to reproduce since there is nobody it can reproduce with that has also undergone the exact same genetic metamorphosis.

Actually, a cyclical system can remain optimal for 2-3 cycles. Let us a system has 1% total efficiency (like nuclear), this means that you can use derivatives from that energy 2-3 times before they reach the level of coal. The system will not be going through cycles before the next reaction, rather, during the space of each reaction you can run smaller reaction with what would have been "wasted" energy.

Actually you can, it's called polarization. Do you know what would happen if you level 4 lasers were used as "swords"? They would pass through each other because there is no repelling element in them (unless your laser consists on polarized particles), however you can either charged a laser OR "coat it" (by having a gas consisting of mostly electron around your beam). Yes and no, the cascading effect you're referring is if the reaction and the particles are unstable. Although even in more stable mechanisms, you can still expect 3rd or 4th order "decay" but that still depends on the system you create.
