I'm not a Virginian, but I have lived there twice, and worked several times in Richmond. I'm a native of South Carolina. It's great to see Virginians active here. Virginia is special; it IS where America began. There was a functioning House of Burgesses passing laws in Virginia years before the Pilgrims landed. People who draw a timeline of the founding of the nation back to the Pilgrims irritate the shit out of me.
The second time I lived in VA, I lived in the Valley, just south of Winchester, and made a point of visiting every major Civil War battlefield. I sought out the spots where my ancestors stood against Yankee aggression. Every single line of my family had at least one Confederate soldier in it, and most fought on the battlefields of VA, with the great Army of Northern Virginia. I am proud of this, and grateful for it.
