This is false, bad font hinting is to bad hhandwriting as handwriting is to legibility.

I already got it, but thanks for providing it for others. There are an assload of different variations of fonts in there, how do I determine which to use for something? e.g. the 20 different types of each Trinité

If you are running Arch and want something like Infinality but without the need for patching or the want for customization, you should try this: aur.archlinux.org/packages/fontconfig-enhanced-defaults

It enables patented rendering techniques, chooses better defaults than Fontconfig in general, and supports enabling them with GNOME and Java.

It does not overwrite or override preexisting configurations, so you need to remove anything custom in $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/fontconfig/fonts.conf.
Nor does it change the font order, just the rendering.
