Marco has never feared to call the potentially omnipotent Star about her screw ups, is just that Star is the protagonist so our main focus.

Well, it did show that some dimensions have even more advanced technology than Earth, and Star's been to other ones before. With the possible upshot that in a lot of them may have magic aspects or parts, so her exposure to them has been wildly varied. She hasn't seen practical, completely non-magic technology before, possibly. And she may well have been getting familiar with them offscreen. (We all know how quick teenagers take to phones)

Like I've said, Star begins the show as a complete spoiled idiot who expects everything to work out for her (because she's a princess) and is barely competent at using the wand as anything but a crude weapon. Which given the state of the manual may be a family trait. You'd think someone would make a decent index, but I guess overreliance on magic makes people lose common sense.

I actually came to enjoy the episode. I think each half should have been a whole 22 minute episode, though. And it was a jarring transition to go from the usual goofiness to, "Hey, the wand just kinda made a tower, poofed Ludo's castle, and vanished or whatever," to, "Hey, we're a serious show now, by the way."

What actually did happen there, anyway? How and why did Star end up back on Mewni? Aaagh, this has gotten pretty complex, actually.

What is strange is that the first season finale we see that he can regenerate a whole arm after getting it blasted off. But he can't regenerate his missing finger (or willingly chooses not to.)

Multiple characters have died in Star Vs. In Ludo in the wild, we see a sentient bug creature talk to Ludo before a spider kills him right on screen (and Ludo even feasts on his dripping guts which was kind of messed up.)

It's likely that Star was just an illusion. Green seems to be the color the show is using for evil/corrupted magic. Right before Star showed up, Ludo saw a green shooting star in the sky. Notice Star's eyes, they're a pale green instead of blue like the real Star.

Fuck, I thought this looked kind of neat before yet never really bothered to check it out due to short attention span, but now I need to actually watch this. I typically don't care for "so deep" plots in cartoons, but if you're going to do it, this kind of political intrigue far better than just "we're space lesbians and we're sad" emotion-tugging trash like SU does with its "plot".

They definitely drew attention to it, it's significance is further supported by the fact that the finger doesn't or can't grow back, he was shown regenerating an entire arm, so what's up with the finger? Is there some magic preventing it from growing back? does toffee keep it a stump on purpose in remembrance of where and why he lost it? why doesn't the finger grow back?

When I got a pose in my mind it always ends up completely different.

One way to improve that a bit is to start by sketching out a cuboid around your character to define their location and perspective. Mark the points where their feet touch the floor and try to draw a rough stick skeleton inside the box. You can then flesh it out with more of a wireframe structure showing where their skin/clothes go. It helps if you're doing it digitally so you can take advantage of layers and transparency.

Of course, the only real answer is practice.

It will improve your art a lot if you use them. If you can produce anything half-decent without them, you'll probably be brilliant with them.

I don't understand how it works. I got the feeling I have to measure the bones or something. I tried and failed hard several times. I just don't get it.

Usually, I look for source material (a pose of a character from a screenshot for example), take it apart and put it back together like Frankenstein. If bending over the character and changing the arm position and stuff isn't enough, I add parts from other sources until it's chaos. Then I draw over it to combine everything into one pose.

But in the end, I got too clear, too amateurish lines and shading, so it doesn't look polished but rather like "some idiot's first attempt".
Even if it ends up on model, it usually doesn't look fappable to myself or I fail drawing visible penetration.

It's all about the ratio between different body parts, so yeah, there is some measuring involved.

They are all over the place with tone. You'd think they'd make hay of Star and her shenanigans being contrasted with Earth's normalness, but Earth is just as wacky.

Though Mewni is still kind of a shithole given practically everyone lives in feudal poverty or the wilderness except for the ruling class and their servants, monsters or otherwise.

Seems to be something of a theme of Star gradually learning to be more responsible dealing with situations she can't just magic away. Last couple eps involved her not being able to use her wand for significant periods. That and Marco apparently developing his mall karate skills. I wouldn't call it filler, but the pace has been slow.

Of course they did, they weren't wearing their Disney mandated bicycle helmets.

Don't forget that they've got executives breathing down their necks to produce enough episodic episodes to insert in the airing schedule whenever so kids unfamiliar with the series can follow along.

It's the same issue that plagued Gravity Fall's second season that one episode everyone hates never would have made it to production if the team didn't need more filler and Wander Over Yonder last five or so episodes.

Of course, this isn't a new problem- it affected Avatar the Last Airbender a decade ago and even Samurai Jack before that. Until we finally abandon televisions asinine broadcast schedules and switch to on demand streaming, this problem will continue.

But many of the fillers in Avatar were good, and maybe as many as ALL of the ones in Samurai Jack were as well. Up until last week, almost every filler in Steven Universe actually advanced the plot reasonably well. It doesn't have to be godawful like in Gravity Falls S2.
