Forgot to say, at most this film should have just been a Star Wars spy movie. With a couple action scenes at most, undercover drama and some cool heist scene near the end.

On the contrary, they were only able to blow up AT-ATs after the machines had fallen over and shut down. The whole point of the rebels using the tow-cables in first place was because simply shooting them while they were fully operational didn't work at all, as demonstrated at the beginning of the battle sequence, after which the pilots realize that the only way to stop them is to immobilize them first and then shoot them.

If shooting them without knocking them over had worked all along, the rebels would have scrambled their starfighters rather than relying on flimsy snowspeeders and probably would have prevented the walkers reaching the shield generator at all. If the AT-ATs were vulnerable to normal strafing fire from fighters while upright then their whole purpose in the battle would have been completely nullified.

The AT-AT physics in Rogue One are not consistent with what we saw in Empire Strikes Back. You aren't supposed to be able to blow them up with lasers while they are still standing upright. The hacks at Disney's writing department will probably use some dumb excuse about them being prototypes or something to cover over the inconsistencies.

And the hyper space physics in The Force Awakens weren't consistent with what was established in the very first Star Wars movie. Disney Nu-Star Wars in fanfiction with a massive budget, that's all it is. The story ended with Return of the Jedi and was given context by the Prequels, the universe was then fleshed out by artists of all sorts. George Lucas sold a franchise that was done with. The fact that the masses still want more is evidence that they are fools and that the audience is never right.

It's fun shitposting about the garbage that Disney has been producing, but that's all there is left to do when it comes to Nu-Star Wars. The best thing to come out of Disney's Star Wars was a no name stormtrooper that was given character by fans, not by the story tellers.

That's all pretty shitty and does indeed make the film seem more like fanfiction than anything else but what bothers me the most about nu-Star Wars by Disney is that they unlike Lucas aren't influenced by good creative sources but Star Wars itself and Nerd Culture™. Star Wars as made by Lucas was a mix of Dune, French comics, Flash Gordon, Kurosawa, greek myth, American pop culture and countless other things. It was this very multifaceted beast of a thing that somehow just clicked and got everything right, even the prequels that arguably fails somewhat as conventional films are amazing as creative endeavours.

TFA was influenced by A New Hope and Joss Whedon. This looks similarly creatively dead, it's Star Wars with more quips and progressive shit. The problem is that what Star Wars is at its core was lost the moment it became self referential.

looking to the world outside of the Hollywood lens for inspiration is a lost art user.
