i had a great debate on blackwashing/whitewashing roles the other day.

everyone came to the conclusion that if the character's specific features weren't an important detail, then it shouldn't matter who plays the role. while the codename james bond theory would make it so that elba could be jb, skyfall and fleming's novels make it otherwise. they aren't detrimental details, but they do get pointed out enough that it's obvious that bond is in fact a white male.

but, if say, a movie about obama was made, since he's known for being the first nig in chief, it would have to have a nig play him. i argued that an actor with white skin who happens to be half-black could also theortically play the role, and nobody really opposed it.
