Trump himself didn't actually go bankrupt which is a status you register for in order to be granted certain protections.

What did go bankrupt were a few of the hundreds of businesses he's done. Notably there was the casino in Atlantic City which went bankrupt, but every casino there has gone to shit so people would leave out the location of that casino so it would sound like Trump had some casino in Vegas that failed while every other casino there is successful.

I think this is what a lot of liberals believe Trump is like since they most likely just saw some clips from some rallies where everyone was loud. You can't get much of a sense of someone's speech patterns and behavior when you only ever watch carefully selected clips.

These are the same people that believed everything the MSM said during the election and thought Trump was so wildly unpopular that Hillary could walk away with over 300 electoral votes rather than the reverse.
