I like that they're trying something different but it doesn't really work for how they write the show. South Park is usually rather off the cuff, they make an episode in six days typically and that's from script to finished animation. An arc based show takes at least some planning because you've got to understand where it is the story is going and also you've got to shore up any continuity issues.
