You are basically Micolash but in reverse. Micolash's (dead) body is IRL but his consciousness is contained in a parallel dimension called the Nightmare. You are the opposite -- your body is in the Dream, and your consciousness is channeled into IRL. If you die IRL it's like dying in a dream, you wake back up in the Hunter's Dream and can just do it all over again. This is what Gehrman signed up for, but he forgot about the "ha ha you cannot leave, bro" part, which is why he's butthurt now.
