Games that need a Boost

Let's talk about games that have sub-500 Steam reviews but deserve a lot more (in your opinion). Please post link as well.Devil Engine has a sick as fuck soundtrack, but is otherwise a fairly standard horizontal shmup like Thunderforce. It has a somewhat unique mechanic where you can absorb shots if you have a high enough combo meter and time it right, but otherwise, it's Thunderforce. Think it's one of the best shmups on Steam, simply because it has a sick artstyle, sick music, and a good difficulty.Unfortunately it's rarely on sale due to the developers having a huge disagreement with the publishers, or something like that. Still, even $19.99 is worth this amount of quality imo.

Hellsinker still has sub 100 reviews. Guess a lot of people played it in the years it wasn't on steam though.

>>514398227store.steampowered.com/app/264240/CONSORTIUM/Slightly over 500 reviews, but this game deserves it for the big balls ambition the devs have. This game (the first of the planned games) captures the feeling of a star trek episode better than Star Trek games do. It's like a murder mystery star trek episode except with a ton of branching dialogue paths and lore stuff to discover.

For me, its Fates of Ort because its an inde RPG with some decent writing and weird mechanics that work very well together. You play some guy who's been gifted with the power to use magic (that draws from your health instead of a mana pool) in a land that hasn't had magic for thousands of years. Also time moves only when you move like superhot and it has lot of cool choices in the narrative that can really change how you play the game.

It's at slightly below 800 reviews, but I think that still qualifies as a small project since it went on Steam in 2014.GearCity is a car tycoon game and the most in-depth business simulation I've played. I have to say straight away though that it's quite an ugly game. It doesn't hold your hand but the dev answers everybody on the forums, usually within 12 hours. There's also a demo, so you can try it before you buy (or pirate and then try it, of course).>Early AccessIt is off-putting, but Early Access is nearly over. I think the dev is currently making video tutorials since the game is very close to completion, so he can finally make tutorials that won't be outdated within a few months. Voidspire Tactics. One of the best SRPGs ever made IMO, dismissed because of its artstyle (I assume). It's like final fantasy tactics meets divinity original sin but with a bit of souls-ish world exploration thrown in. You can use nearly all of your abilities while exploring the overworld to get to new places and find secrets, and there's a ton of synergy between everything. Want to get across a lake? Freeze the water and run across. See something up above? Grow a plant and climb it like a ladder. You can lay down a turret, and then use a short range teleport to warp it behind the enemy and shred them from inside their formation. Douse a group in water and electrocute them all at once, freeze it under them, you get the idea. It offers tons of flexibility. You can dualclass too for even more choice.

store.steampowered.com/app/459090/Masquerada_Songs_and_Shadows/It's basically a super-linear indie Bioware title. No story or dialogue choices (preset protagonist with his own backstory), but a similar style of combat, with a good amount of different skills to choose between and upgrade, and respeccing is free and easily available, so you can experiment a lot to see what skills you like. Also like Bioware, there's a massive amount of worldbuilding, including a thick codex with pages upon pages of history and character bios to read. My only complaints are that the party AI is kinda dumb, so you have to micromanage them a lot in battles, and while the ending does feel satisfying, there are a good number of unanswered plot threads, and considering the game flopped hard, chances of a sequel are pretty much zero. Still, it's worth experiencing at least one time.

>>514409829The guy is a 1man dev who spent a shit lot of effort making a game that's on par with games that would have been considered AAA back in the arcade era, "make a new game" is basically throwing away a masterpiece that took years to make.

>>514416848>on parArguably better. It's my favorite shmup of the last decade.

>>514413986I think you are besmirching both devs for kicks!

>>514407597It's alright. The game doesn't hold your hand and expects you to figure shit out on your own. It's also a bit heavy on the life sim elements for a side scrolling brawler. The dev's not japanese but at least he's not american so there's no ironic weeb shit. He almost nailed down the japanese culture part which I can only guess he got from anime and manga but since the story feels sincere, you can tell he's from europe or something (people not behaving japanese etc.)

>>514412221start played itvery good game but the stealth part is a bit junky

>>514404965The peak of engineering autism games.

>>514415243and cute girls.

>>514404965This game is amazing but you actually need to be an engineer unironically to enjoy it, not a fake engineer like factorio/kerbal etc.

store.steampowered.com/app/1184840/Chaos_Galaxy/Chaos Galaxy is pretty cool. It's basically a cross between Nobunaga's Ambition and Super Robot Wars.

Buying Devil Engine the moment the dev gets the rights back.

>>514418507how is chaos sector ?

>>514415492if it's half as good as Hyper Light Drifter which it's very obviously ripping off, I'll have to give it a try...is it?

>>514416649Better Business Bureau is not a government agency. It's just a pre-internet version of Yelp where they make money off of having businesses pay them to remove bad reviews.

>>514418229it's what pulled me at first but I stayed for the mechanics

Planet alpha, it's platformer like Limbo & art like No Man's Skygog.com/game/planet_alpha_digital_deluxe

Attached: PLANET-ALPHA-2.jpg (958x459, 155.56K)

recommend a good indie game for $5

>>514418719Very similar, but the map is much smaller, there are only 3 factions and you can only attack bordering planets like you do with provinces in Nobunaga's Ambition and similar games, whereas in Chaos Galaxy you move your fleets around on the overworld map instead. Galaxy really just expands on everything from Sector.

>>514418507Did they tone down the CHINA NUMBAH WAN ALL OTHA NUMBAH TWO OR LOWAH shit? I was gonna pirate it, but forgot about it till just now. On topic: Lunatic Dawn: Passage of the Book is some classic artdink weirdness and has a translation patch that came out not too long ago.

>>514419291I will wait for galaxy to be on sale

>>514419056Read the thread, lots of seemingly good shit in here

>>514414440Not even the moralfags at Resetera gave a shit, infact they shat on DEdevs for posting on 4chan and cared more about the sexual allegations.

>>514398227>boostgo the fuck back to twitter or reddit

>>514419056store.steampowered.com/app/391540/Undertale/

>>514419664this looks cool :)

>>514419056store.steampowered.com/app/428750/Neon_Chrome/its ugly as shit but good

>>514405408>>514405852Spark the Electric Jester is good as fuckthe first game is 16 bit and the sequel is basically sonic adventure but good

>>514418981Also on steamstore.steampowered.com/app/485030/PLANET_ALPHA/

>>514398227>>514419056store.steampowered.com/app/463700/Super_Cloudbuilt/It's merely the best 3D platformer ever made

>>514419982it's a really good game. I second this. Play it with a friend.

>went to look for a game i was really enjoying that had only 10 reviews >can't find its steam page>turns out the retard dev removed it because of the BLM stuff ok retard well there went any chance of me shilling your game

>>514414440>indie dev>publisher>indie dev publishercould of just shilled his game in schmups general

store.steampowered.com/app/886900/Chef_A_Restaurant_Tycoon_Game/it's areally fun tycoon game. it's not over complcated though.>>514419056store.steampowered.com/app/310700/Super_Win_the_Game/try this one as well.

>>514419056>>514420350Seconding this. And it's effectively unshillable because the studio is ded.

>>514414440Friendly reminder that Jason Schreier literally told him he didn't want to cover the story because he's friends with ben judd.

>>514405408>>514412865Nice ones

>>514418981>limboso you hold right for like half an hour and then do a little puzzle?

Super Daryl Deluxe is essentially a vidya version of Napoleon Dynamite with absolutely fucking insane setting where a nerd confronts the evil principal experimenting on students, creating pocket dimensions from their thoughts.Gameplay-wise it's kinda reminiscent of Muramasa, you have two sets of 5 specials on cooldowns you can string together into huge combos, every ability can be upgraded and it visually changes the look of that ability. Also has a fantastic main themeyoutube.com/watch?v=dCwUGEPAqS0I'm actually surprised Holla Forums slept on this one.

>>514423598SDD is fantastic, everyone should give it a try.---Demoncrawl is a Minesweeper rougelike. I actually didn't think it would be that good, but I've decided to bite the bullet. I'm now 80 hours in and nowhere close to being tired of it. It can be slightly bullshit from time to time, but as you go deeper into a run, you end up performing some galaxy-brain tier moves and somehow you realize you've just spent 2 hours clearing increasingly harder boards. It may be hard to convey in words how a Minesweeper clone can get you into a zone of consecutive masterstroke moves, but once you get a hit of that shit, you'll be addicted for life. The devs also added a massive free expansion and it's currently 25% off. This game's probably not for everyone, but if it clicks for you, you will get A LOT of bang for your buck.It also helps that the presentation is compelling. You go through boards with a lot of different themes with some fantastic background music.youtube.com/watch?v=WJEjA-z-Vw8https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXMiApztRFQhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3EdHXbmlQIhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUvXRF0FT-0
