Subnautica

Actually this thread is about any PC survival games, Subnautica's just well known. Post about them. It doesn't matter if good or bad, finished or not.

>>507606363why is the Ghost Leviathan in the lost river such a dick? I swear he aggroes from twice the range of any other leviathan

Subnautica cemented my hate for indie games. There is literally no reason to upgrades outside of the end game cave. The entire edge of the map never dips below 500 meters, which is cool when you think that's the standard depth for the sub, but there's absolutely no reason to explore it as NOTHING spawns there. So that makes the Sub pointless, that makes the prawn suit pointless because the only reason you need it is to get the mats for the sub... so the only vehicle worth it at all is the seamoth and it's the buggiest one in the game despite being the first one in the game. There's maybe 5 hours of content in the game if they didn't make it such a hassle

>>507607045You literally don't need to go anywhere near it. Just come down from the other end of the cave.

>>507607045Idk, he does the same for me. He'll start screeching from all the way on the other side of the cave to do a death charge at my Prawn.Get him stuck in the waterfall on the left.

>>507607045>why is the Ghost Leviathan in the lost river such a dick?the lost river is where those leviathans rear and raise their children; they're defending their eggs and young.

>>507606363I keep wanting to play Subnautica to build an underwater base because it looks comfy but the game is too scary for me.

>>507606363>Playing Below Zero>Get to a snow island after risking everything diving into an ice cave>Cant explore new island till i build the snow mobile i found there

Attached: 78395301-630x598.jpg (630x598, 34.67K)

>>507607757Trust me, it's not that scary. Nothing's a real threat and this image genuinely describes the game.

>>507607118What the fuck are you talking about? This post makes no fucking sense

>>507607045If you are going in there with the cyclops just rig for silent running and go slow, but yeah the one in the grand reef is a dickhead

>>507607118Perhaps the game would have been more enjoyable if you didn't view it from a pragmatist/speedrunning perspective.

>>507607118>Seamoth>buggiestlel no, call me when you fall through the floor in a prawn

>>507608002How are generals feeling about BZ? I've nearly finished the first game and despite the rampant bugs I am enjoying it.

>>507608407which one's this

>>507608089There's no biome in the game that requires any vehicle other than the seamoth. It's poorly designed by having the "key" to lost river (the mars) spawn in lost river. Forcing you to go in and out in and out to upgrade until you can reach the end.

>>507608058Except for the bottom of floating islands which has nothing of value.

>>507608473The Long DarkI strongly recommend jumping in the deep end and drowning. The tutorial holds your hand a bit too much.

>>507608516Isn't a cuddlefish egg there? Or is that the space near the dunes

>>507607118The cyclops is a mobile base, it's handy as absolute fuck. And the prawn makes exploring safe and IMO insanely fun.

>>507608221That's all survival games are, the formula it takes to reach the top. And Subnautica's is especially shit as there's not reason to ever move base, or upgrade your vehicles outside of checking off lost river.

>>507608592sounds rad, thanks mate

>>507607757Tips>dont build a base past 200 meters deep>dont go towards the aroura, unless you need fragments>monsters like the stalker and sand shark are not very aggressive, you can circle around them or swim away to avoid them, and stalkers are mostly neutral>NEVER go to the back of the back of the mountain island>swim to the tropical floater island to get planter parts, marblemelons, and multipurpose rooms purpose

>>507608513I just built a mini base at the LR entrance. You can farm and eat gel sacks and they grow super fast.

>>507608751Whats at the back of the mountain? The lone reaper?

>>507608513Dude Seamoth max depth is like 900 meters, and lava zone even goes as far as 1300. Besides, it takes ages and tons of mats to get the seamoth upgrade to 900 max depth. What are you even talking about.

Does subnautica really have eceleb shit in it?

Will i like this game if i loved soma? Im not a huge fan of survival games where you gotta gather resources and craft shit

>>507608891Yes, and the dead zone

>>507608751I didnt find that fucking floating island until late game. Building a base without multipurpose rooms was a nightmare.

i liked building obervation bases to admire the fauna.

>>507609003>it takes ages and tons of mats to get the seamoth upgrade to 900 max depth>3 rubiesuhh

>>507609168BASED

>>507609170I don't even remember where rubies are user

>>507609168how far out do you have to be to make them spawn, I want to make a crater observatory near the island or dunes

>>507608891Also dickass warpers>>507609008There's a minor Gabe Newell joke and a couple of fish with names I assume are references.

>>507609259Everywhere

>>507609259Rubies spawn in deep caves, in the coosh zone, and other deeper places

>>507609259Best and easiest source are the underwater island caves.

>>507609301not very far at all actually. building this base was fun too.

Attached: 1565961288373.jpg (1920x1080, 289.68K)

>>507609008The most it has is a secret markiplier doll and a jack septiceye reference

>>507607118prawn in cyclops mobile base is top shelf

>>507607045The Ghosts in the Lost River are juveniles and growing, they're ravenous and will devour anything they see, even each other. The three in the Grand Reef and Northern Blood Kelp Zone are adults and not as voracious.

>>507609580What a loud neighbor!

>>507607757The underwater base building is kinda so-soIt suffers from the normal "you can put anything anywhere" for the most part, so you end up with 2-3 rooms with all your shit lined up next to eachother. You dont naturally have themed rooms unless you deliberately build it that way. The sub feels more like an underwater base than the actual hab units desuLastly, the scariest part of the game is getting lost in wrecks and running out of oxygen. Monsters aren't scary once you learn the easy way to kill them

>>507607757Play it in VR if you can user. It's spooky AS FUCK. Adding scale to it makes it so much better. Sitting at the edge of the shallows looking out of the drop off gave me chills

>>507609703Yeah, but the only reason you ever need it is to get through lost river

>>507606363I still have no idea what I'm supposed to do in the green river biome and the lava biome after it, and I dropped the game shortly after that. Not sure why they stopped giving you hints on what to do after the rescue ship contacts you and gets blown up. From what I understand, they want you to cure your alien infection to turn off the orbital cannon for you to get rescued, but I don't have any idea how to do that, and I already fully upgraded my seamoth, prawn and cyclops.

I really like what their doing with below zero, making it seem like you are more helpless and independent, making robin much less annoying and not as talkative, and making dialogue optional to listen to

Attached: Snowstalker-baby.jpg (2369x1525, 152.5K)

>>507609012>Im not a huge fan of survival games where you gotta gather resources and craft shitI have some bad news

I was thoroughly underwhelmed with Subzero. The biomes don't feel as fluid in transition, and some textures are obviously unfinished at this point.

anybody else get into gardening?? i rememeber the quest for mommy leviathan to gather some stuff to make the eggs hatch, and i already had all the stuff in in my back yard.

Attached: 1579317095375.jpg (1920x1080, 736.72K)

>>507609580Do aggressive leviathans not attack bases?

>>507607045Just use the prawn suit. There's no reason to go that low with the cyclops. The deepest I brought mine was to the orbs under the floating island. The leviathans pretty much ignored the prawnsuit and were easily avoided.

Does anyone here know a game like subnautica that would be co-op? Fuck that would be ideal. I just want to hang out in a spooky ship with my bros and explore. I've tried no mans sky, green hell, the forest, GTFO, nothing is really scratching the itch well enough. Just want to be spooked with my bros.

>>507610303It's way too strong

>>507610326not really. of course if you build a moon pool and try to leave in a vehicle that close to one, you'll be its next snack. my moonpool was WAY away from the observation rooms i built.

>>507610303cutewish i'd thought of putting planter boxes on platforms so they'd be easier to place>>507610368PRESSURE

is below zero any good now? I remember seeing someone talking about how they were overhauling the story to make it more isolated and make the mc less of an obnoxious retard

>>507610183>not as talkativeif she talks at all im out

>>507607757The most dangerous thing in the game are the explosive fish at the start. Everything else is easy to avoid.

>>507610625Good thing theres no voice clips right now

>>507610621They're still working on the story, but it's a LOT better than previous. You still get Al-An downloaded into your brain and Maeda is still a big part of the story, but you're not yammering with your sister or the Vesper every five minutes and the dialogue with Al-An is a lot better.

>>507610029You go a little ways past the giant blue tree, down into the lava, and down into the crater there. Then go into the containment facility and you basically finished it.

>>507610029The cure is far below the river.

My main gripes with Subnautica:A lot of the Creatures look cool, such as-AmpeelBlightercrabsnakeCrabsquidlava lizardmesmerriver prowlerstalkercrimson raygarryfishgasopodghostrayholefishhoopfishHoverfishJellyrayoculus/peeperrabbit rayReginaldall the crabs and larvaeghost levithanreaperand reefbackand of course sea emperor and sea treader.HOWEVER. EVERYTHING else looks fucking stupid, it totally seems inconsistent and like goddamn pokemon instead of actual sea creatures. And that was peaked with the Sea Dragon, it's the most lame, uninspiring, unimaginative design and is like a chinese knockoff version of the sea emperor. It's such a fucking lazy design and a totally missed opportunity. I fucking hate the sea dragon with a passion.

>>507610303Same here, but it was purely for crafting and I just happened to have eyestalks and ghostweeds as decorations in a fishtank.

>>507610029You get blueprints for an escape rocket from the Aurora.

>>507611047Reaper looks like a disney ripoff mate

>>507611142A disney ripoff of what? Am I missing something?

>>507610621Started playing it today, and its definitely smaller, not as terrifying as the first game, and the biomes feel samey, but it is still as enjoyable as the first game. I love all the stuff they did with base building

>>507611225It's the goofy, cartoony face with the pushed in jaw grimace. It looks like a toy villain.

>>507611047>a large variety of creatures look really varied and some of them are super-bizarreWow, just like real life, mate. Ever seen some of the fish down in the deep sea? Or birds like the hoatzin? Nature don't give a fuck about what humans think should look cool or awesome.

>>507611514Oh, yeah. Teeth aren't sharp enough, but everything else about it looks fine. The main issue with every other sea creature I didn't list, is that they just lack the look of actual sea creatures.- It's like the art team TRIED to make realistic looking sea monsters and most just turned out cartoony and unbelievable, and just gave the game an entirely cartoony aesthetic. It's inconsistent as fuck, I remember the early days of the alpha when it looked near realistic in the style of where they were going, but they eased into more and more cartoony artstyle.Missed opportunity, realistic looking creatures would be considerably fucking spookier.

Subnautica is weird. They put all of their effort into developing an amazing environment but the story seems so sparse and tacked on.

>>507611514Haha he's cute

>>507611704>Wow, just like real life, mate. Ever seen some of the fish down in the deep sea? Or birds like the hoatzin? Nature don't give a fuck about what humans think should look cool or awesome. You're an idiot. I'm not complaining about variety, i'm complaining about their design just being cartoony and stupid, and frankly unimmersive. I'm all for variation, and fucking wackyness.. but when their eyes look like a pokemon, i'm just out.

>>507610362>Leave Cyclops next to lost river tree>walk Prawn all the way down to Primary Containment>tactically shit my pants past the sea dragon>plan: gather enzyme mats, take lost river teleporter, saunter back to cyclops to fabricate>mfw Ghostie aggroes my Prawn from across the fucking cave the very second I step out of the water wallWhat the actual fuck man, now what do I do

>>507611884Run back into the teleporter room or grapple onto the ghost and beat the shit out of him, like how I did

>>507611856You do realize that most pokemon are based off of real animals, right?

>>507611856How exactly does this >>507611806 look anything like a fucking Pokemon? How are those eyes "cartoony"? Might as well say a great white shark is a cartoon character for having black soulless eyes.

>>507608751>don't build a base past 200 meters deepwhy?

>>507612050Oh my god you must be trolling me by now, you cannot be this thick.

>>507612125Seamoth will explode

>>507612101I said reaper was one of the cool ones, bro. I like reaper.

>>507610621The map seems much worse than the first game. It has no immediate landmarks you know you should explore like the Aurora. I think the developers just lucked out with the first game cause they seem to be retarded

>>507612030IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE MULTIPLAYER?! THAT WOULDA BEEN GREAT

>>507611754Sand Shark looks better than the Reaper. Reaper's mouth is tiny and it has chinballs,

>>507611884It isn't aggroed to the suit, it is to you. Just exit the prawn suit and swim a little bit aways. It will leave you alone.

>>507612125I'm giving tips for early game, of course you can build deeper once you get upgrades

>>507612258Multiplayer was talked about, then abandoned because the devs didn't know how to make it work without the game shitting itself.

>>507612037But that means I gotta sneak out the front door and I barely made it past the sea dragon unscathed the first time, he ended up missing a swipe just above me and i was lucky enough to ride his belly to the facility entrance, there's no way I'll get that lucky twice, he's gonna tear me apart

Attached: 1465698496485.png (401x341, 48.18K)

>>507610368Subnautica was going to have co-op but the devs cut it like all the other interesting shit.

>>507611514getting jumped by a reaper is the first time I've been legitimately scared by a game since I was like 5.the actual fear I was feeling wasn't even that high but the initial shock of him grabbing on to me was enough to cause me to go into a mini shock that lasted for like 5 seconds

>>507612385"Lol just give the game to youtubers and we'll make bank lol fuck multiplayer."

>>507608685Maybe if you think a game is god-awful trash by your chosen metric, but many people enjoy it for something that the one box you are trying to fit it in doesn't measure, you should either accept your limited criteria for what it is or reevaluate your position.

>>507612443I used to be a scared little pussy too, then I started to go bald. Now I know true horror and nothing else really bothers me anymore.

>>507612443This, but with those fucking crabsnakes, why the fuck did I let my guard down and why are they so deceptively large

>>507612443The most iconic moment in this game is when you get too close to the Aurora, hear a distant roar and see a giant tail flapping in the fog

>>507612521If it wanted to be an immersive sim they shouldn't have tacked on the ending and grind

>>507612443I flinched a bit but the first reaper grab for me was more akin to shit this guy sucks, I don't want to lose my seamoth

>>507612634never happened to me

>>507612654You mean the victory lap around the world map that you can complete at your leisure in the Cyclops and one of the things the drill arm on the Prawn Suit is designed specifically to do?

>>507612258Yeah because the developers got lazy some guy started making a coop mod for the game.

>>507612381If you went through the main facility teleporter, book it and go to there, if you didnt and you need to go back to your cyclops, good luck. The ghost has a bit of cooldown before he attacks again, so that can give you a chance to escape

>>507609848I'd play in VR if it was functional.

Attached: soynautica.jpg (9678x1780, 1.49M)

Why is there no game like it, lads? I tried outer wilds, it could have been cool if the gameplay isn't supposed to be walking simulator

>>507612845i have to go back, all my neptune mats are in the cyclops

>>507608513You haven't finished the game? Wow user it's not hard, you know

>>507611884it does pathetic damage, tank it and move on

>>507613291Well first you need a survival game that doesn't have a procedurally generated world. That's a pretty big filter. Then you need ones with an interesting premise and locale. In a completely alien setting rife with things to explore. With a style that is only somewhat an asset store ripoff as opposed to a complete one.

>>507612634I remember that happened to Jacksepticeye when he was playing the really early access. He was by the Aurora, turned, and saw the tail disappear into the murk and was all "What's that?" and swam toward it. Then the Reaper came charging out the murk and ate him while he was screaming in terror.

Got really into this game for a solid 15 hours and then I went to create a new base in the lost river right by the entrance to the inactive lava biome and suddenly lost all interest since the commute between my bases took an eternity Console command infinite resources and I just finished it the same night in like an hourI never realized that you used the radio to progress the story so I felt lost as fuck, I think if I had realized that I wouldn't have lost interest

>>507615232>blinding light>suddenly outside the moth>warper going towards you with it's scythe handsI think the confusion really adds to the experience but really, I knew I got teleported out. I only got scared because i thought it was really far away, thanks christ it was just for a few meters

>>507613045Who cares, fag

>>507614985Which is why you use a cyclops base. Only need a shallows base for the initial run then cyclops it out for the rest of your days. Keep materials to throw up an emergency charging room and you're golden.

>>507615625you can even grow those edible plants from the island on the top deck

>>507614985Yeah we should have been able to research alien warp gates to get a blueprint to build our own and warp between bases.

>>507615896iirc in early builds you could build a solar panel on top of the hull and it'd recharge

>>507606363>Post about them.>It doesn't matter if good or bad, finished or not.Literally all garbage

>>507607118Imagine being this bad at games and then blaming the games

Why didn't they make the man-size cave systems mandatory? I popped into a couple way back in early access, realized they weren't short and simple, and noped the fuck out lest I get lost and drown. They were convoluted enough that I'm not even sure a dive reel would make exploring them actually comfortable. Also there shouldn't be a phi camera constraint as that artificially lets you determine which way is up, making it harder to get truly disoriented.

>>507615232Maybe that's the point? It's supposed to be confusing and startling. You get a loud ass sound effect and visual indicator too, I dunno what more you need to tell you that something normal or accidental is not happening to you.

What game has the best, most purposeful yet aesthetic and creative building? Subnautica's is pretty alright. I want to do some building in Minecraft but I want to build to the environment and that means scouring seeds for natural terrain appropriate for my idea, that idea being somewhat grand.
