ampere cards where 3060 will outperform 2080 ti in rtx games will come out in half a year

3 fps is a negligible loss, wtf are you talking about? plus you're not forced to have it enabled anyway, so why complain? RT is going to become the standard for AAA titles anyways because it's more efficient for environment artists.

>>507600214Yes user, technology has diminishing returns. Honestly, everything that happened in the last 5 years (at least) in terms of gaming technology has done more harm than good. I hate to use the word "soulless" but it's exactly what it is. Technology is a crutch that game companies rely on because it lets them invest money into a predictable, objective, improvement for their games that they can tout to consumers as a reason to buy more stuff. Making good games is hard you see, but paying a bunch of nerds to make everything nice and shiny is much easier.

It's a gimmick for people who can afford the hardware as to not notice the FPS drop you poor euroshit insect

For the nth time. Raytracing is for game devs. You see all lighting solutions in gaming are "fake" approximations. Raytracing is simulating photons, the real deal but what do you know, as Quake revelaled, approximations are good enough. No one benefits from this but trannies and Nvidia. Don't fall for it.

>>507600214Is that a fucking world war 2 reflex sight?

>>507601426i can afford the hardware and it absolutely is a gimmick and a meme. shiny reflective surfaces in real time lose their novelty extremely quickly when you realize how much power it takes just to render it. and its not *that* much more impressive either.raytracing is a memeVR is not a meme and should be taken seriously

They need to get more of those RTX into each card before it starts to become more viable as a graphics option. Most modern cards have a couple thousand regular cores, while the newer RTX cards have at most 100.It will probably be a while before that happens though.

Raytracing is the reason why animated films look so damn good nowadays. To accurately represent how light defracts and reflects on any surface material, you need a hell of a lot of power. To be able to do this in real time represents a major leap forward.

>>507600214Why do you think Nvidia has been focusing on DLSS? It's the future, eventually it'll become good enough that 720p upscaled to 4K will be indistinguishable from the real thing, with maybe a %5 performance drop off compared to normal 720p. If AMD can create a similar software and apply it to RDNA 2.0, then next gen consoles will get AT LEAST 10 years out of them, because then devs can render a game at 540p and upscale to 1080p with no difference in visual quality. So basically, RT will eventually become a standard graphical effect, with DLSS or something similar supplementing it to prevent performance drops while still keeping image quality.
