I just saw Diary of a Country Priest. Tark was right, it's leagues better than anything other Bresson film I've seem so far. It was personal on a level that he never really achieved later in his career, but poetic and truthful in way that his earlier films couldn't hope to match. Maybe he just got lucky? Either way, he deserves a very special place in the history of cinema for Diary of a Country Priest alone. Not even the greatest of his peers(from that era anyway) succeeded at making something with such a perfect balance of grace and suffering.
