Fun Fact about that whole "5 Million" thing. It was actually something added after the fact by Ilya Ehrenburg in an attempt to make more gentiles care about the Holocaust and feel a personal connection to it, because IT COULD HAVE BEEN YOU, GOYIM!
Anyway, what's even funnier is that, according to the American military, most of the inmates at Dachau were non-Jews, mostly Gypsies, German Communists, and Homosexuals, if I recall. There were barely any Jews, if any it all. In "Band of Brothers", Spielberg made all of the Dachau inmates Jews, malnourished and dying Jews, in particular, even those most Dachau inmates were relatively healthy. A character even goes out of his way to practically break the fourth wall as he states "Jews. They're all Jews." in shocked horror. At the end of the episode, a quick text appears on the screen stating that "Over 6 Million Jews and around 5 Million Gentiles were murdered by the Nazi Regime", just tacked on at the end. They never actually mention "5 Million" at any point in the episode, mind you.
He also openly admitted his reason for making Schindler's List was to remind people about the Holocaust and that it happened, because he felt too many gentiles were starting to forget about it or not pay any attention or mind to it, so he made it his little "NEVER FORGET!" speech.
Reminder that the 2nd Indochina Conflict was the most blatantly evil fucking war the US has been involved in in the last century. Built on false premises every step of the way, from the colonial attempt to divide the country in two with no input from its inhabitants with an artificial boundary to the installation of a corrupt puppet government in the south to the fabrication of the Golf of Tonkin incident.
