Personally I like Green day's music. What I mean is they have this rebel persona of punk rockers yet support mainstream democrats. While an actual punk rocker would never back any politician. The analogy was meant to compare Green day to the liberals protesting of the early 2000's who had this rebel persona who rebelled against Bush and his war but were silent when Obama came into power and continued the drone strikes.

I think it's a combination of Twitter being poison to a person's soul. It allows for no reasonable discussion, just shouting snarky hashtags and expletives back and forth so she's ready to jump down anyone's throats immediately. As a Canadian I was surprised to find people in NYC way friendlier than people in Toronto in the few times I visited so I don't think it's NYC per say, just a type of elitism that breeds in coastal areas like NYC or LA where they think they're so much smarter, so much more progressive than those dirt farming plebs in the interior and that they have to talk down to everyone else who just don't "get it" like they do. If I may expand on it I think the culture of places like Twitter has made it worse. At least for a time they kept their contempt of others subtle but now it's become this SJW us vs them mentality, we're the good guys and you're the bad guys so you guys aren't even worth courtesy eg "how dare you not support the new Ghostbusters movie! Yeah it really seems so. I never got the appeal of twitter it just seemed like a waste of time. The only thing I can get is if some celebrity or company wants to update the public on something they're working on.

You can engage in some discussion there. It's just that the structure of the site, with its retweeting and liking, promotes making singular statements.
