When reviewing fiction, you have to balance analytical approach (intellectual perception) and empathy (emotional understanding). He seems to sorely lack in the latter department. One example that I somewhat remember - he claims Elia's murder isn't Oberyn's primary motivation, but "according to lore study, Oberyn might have passed the Valyrian ruins in his travels, and those memories are his key characteristic", or something along those lines. Average Joe who reads ASOIAF 10 minutes a day on toilet might have better overall understanding of the story, at least regarding the reasons why characters act the way they do.
