And if Finn had not been a diversity cast, the movie may have passed as a decent soft reboot. But it would take a whole new formula for the new trilogy to actually give it a shot and being anywhere near good. Star Wars was a marketing machine, but it had a fantasy dressed as sci-fi core which had enough soul to sustain a cultural icon. This new one is completely soulless.

I think a story set in a cold war between the New Republic and the Imperial Remnant with a burgeoning new Jedi Order would have sufficed. 30 years later deal would be beyond Thrawn's time, would it not? You could mention him and say he kept the Remnant Fleet afloat against the Republic's momentum in the years following Endor. Or something. I don't know. I'm just an user on the internet. Some vague threat that force shenanigans might reach ancient history levels of bullshit soon. Tensions rise and cold war threatens to go hot as MC and inquisitor play cat and mouse in the neutral systems. End first movie with the war kicking off in the second. These are the ideas that keep me up at night.
