Merlin was the comfiest shit. Somehow they just did magic right when barely any other film or show does.

Yes, they are and it's really obvious. Their language and (sad attempt at) culture dominates the globe like no other because they have economic and military power greater than any other country and they are all too eager to use it. Nothing significant happens on planet Earth without the US either causing it or at least interfering later when it becomes apparent which side of a conflict will play ball with them more.

This isn't to say that the US are independent and make decisions only in their own best interest, not at all.
