What were they thinking? This man was way too old to be Bond

we need a black woman as james bond.

Why was Trump in 007?

Best Bond coming through.

Better than the gooney blue-eyed German pretending to be a British patriot.

Sean Connery is best Bond.

THAT ISN'T HOW A FUCKING GUN WORKS

Which?

View to a Kill had a killer theme though. And Fiona Fullerton was pretty hot. Too bad Bond here was old enough to be her granddad

Yeah, he really was at that point. I remember reading that they planned to bring him back again, but he said enough was enough and he didn't want to fuck chicks that could be his kids.

I think the reason was that they were terrified about killing the franchise over picking a bad Bond. What they didn't realize was the writers for these movies were the greater threat at that point. Think about it, how many Bond movies got fucked by bad writing rather than bad casting once Moore left?

what exactly are you referring to? the straight blowback pistols?

They were going to replace him for Octopussy, but then Never Say Never Again got announced with Sean Connery back as Bond and EON absolutely shit themselves and felt it was probably best to stick with Moore, who was well established. Then for some reason they roped him back for A View to a Kill.

To be fair, Moore era is probably as bad as the writing gets. It's funny to me how Moore always talks about 'what Ian Fleming intended' when he argues why Bond shouldn't be black. The reason Moore's Bond films were the way they were was because Moore absolutely hated Fleming's novels, he felt they had no humour, unlike Leslie Charteris' Saint novels, which he'd been used to doing. So they wrote to suit his talents and what you end up with is a lot of 'In name only's of what could've been great thrillers.

I never heard about that bit for Never Say Never, but I've only paid attention to the behind-the-scenes stuff that's happened the last few years. That makes sense why they'd keep him.

I would personally disagree, but I also know I like that kind of comedy so I'm biased. I also need to get off my fat ass and actually read the books. I still think that even with the changes and tonal shift from the source material, they're still better than the majority of Craig's movies. Those feel like the entire crew wanted to make anything related to Bond. I'm still glad he called them on making Bond black, because you know damn well they'd only do it for [CURRENT YEAR] reasons. If they want a black Bond so damn bad, they should go the route of Matt Damon and make their own style of spy like Jason Bourne. Otherwise it'll turn into another Wild Wild West.

They screentested a bunch of people, including James Brolin. I can't remember if Sam Neill was for Octopussy or The Living Daylights, but he was definitely in there somewhere

Craig's movies are probably the best illustration that they don't understand Fleming's work. Maybe it's because of the times and what people expect out of a Bond movie but Fleming didn't really go in for that action movie. There is action in them but they're thrillers. Alfred Hitchcock, North by Northwest, that sort of thing.

Licence to Kill is probably the closest they've ever come to adapting Ian Fleming's work faithfully

Oh, I agree that it's a horrible, horrible idea and they should never do it. I just find Moore's rationale for why they shouldn't do it funny considering his Bond films. Then again, Yaphet Kotto said exactly the same thing, and added that black people do know how to pick up pens, they should make their own spy movies.

You mean Kaz?

yaphet kotto also didn't stop bitching about his shares and ended up getting his crew killed.

never trust a darkie, son.

I liked Sam Neill as Indiana Jones with dinos, but I don't think it would've worked out with him for Bond. I do get the irony in Moore talking that kind of smack, I just had to defend Moore for the black comment because I'm sick of actors tossing our series under the bus. Fuck Brosnan and especially Craig. I always thought what separated Bond from Bourne and the others was the light-hearted humor and more fantastical elements. I never considered the genre to be off.

What convinced them to test him was Reilly Ace of Spies, where Neill basically played the proto-Bond. It was a very good miniseries and I think it demonstrates that Neill could've been very good as Bond

just imagine, harrison ford was the original pick for dr. grant.

Which he only did because the Baltimore Homicide Squad was woefully underfunded due to budget cuts

they have baltimore homicide squads in space?

Yes. They're very advanced out in Baltimore

This is kind of sad because License to Kill is the perfect Bond movie, if they just stuck to Flemings work there could be more like this and yet there isn't.

Goldeneye was pretty cool tho

There was going to be a third Dalton film but sadly there was an argument over the rights and he quit before it was made. It's a real shame as he was part of the group pushing for similarity to the books (which he read on a daily basis for the role).

What were they thinking? This man was way too white and straight to be Bond

With every sequel to Casino Royale being a turd, at least we can agree Craig Bond is second only to Timothy Dalton as worst Bond.

Yeah, Bond kinda needs to pass for a dark Norman/Anglo-kike. Craig looks way too Slavish with his weird Turanic ears and eyes.

this

Dalton>Connery>Brosnan>Lazenby>Moore>Craig

He looked good for a man pushing 60. It was only stupid because the bond girl looked about 18 instead of a milf like in Octopussy. The film was shit anyway.

...

You don't have to make that face yet, the next one is gonna be that guy who played Loki.

Let's not forget they turned Moneypenny into a Nigress to test the waters for a black bond.

I might swap Craig and Moore depending on my mood but that's about it.

Wasted quints.

...

Moore is three years older than Connery, but looked 10 years younger, at least when he started in the 70s.

God bless Sir Roger!

Moore and Connery were the best. Any user who thinks Brosnan was anything but garbage was probably growing up with Brosnan as a Kid.

Any user who thinks Moore was good probably grew up with him

He looked good for his age, maybe. He did not look good for Bond.

Didn't grow up with him but I'll say that Moore was a pretty decent Bond in retrospect. Most of his films are comfy popcorn entertainment and Moore was good at being both comedic but also serious. People forget that he could also be a cold motherfucker, as shown in video included. I still say his era is better than Brosnan's, who only has one film worth watching and it wasn't even written for him (Yes, I'm talking about GoldenEye).

Favourites:
Dalton>Connery>Moore>Craig>Lazenby>Brosnan

All Dalton haters can suck my dick

what did he mean by this?

He meant that he wanted his daily dose of goodhead

I don't know why people keep using this argument to justify liking GoldenEye but disliking Brosnan. Do you know how many times scripts are rewritten before they finally get shot? Millions. The script they wrote for Dalton in '91-'93 has little to no resemblance to the script they shot in '95 and make no mistake, they wrote that shooting script for Brosnan.

You might as well argue that The Living Daylights was only good because it was written for Brosnan. Or that Secret Service was only good because it was written for Connery. Or that Dr No was only good because they had someone else in mind

Craig is terrible. Nothing British or Scottish about him.

The GOAT.
