I agree with terminator, die hard should have stopped at the 2….the one with Samuel Jackson was already a stretch. Independence Day I don't know, I always saw it as an action flick….why you say it killed the genre?

Whether it was a stretch or not "With a Vengeance" still felt like Die Hard. Sure it wasn't confined to one location but McClane still felt like a real person, the action doesn't get too crazy and the script is still sharp.
It's basically the first of the "Michael Bay" style of action flicks. No soul or charisma, just loud noises, a ton of CGI destruction, character stereotypes and writing that appeals to kids with ADHD.

Not that guy, and I agree with most of what you said, but you cant argue ID4 didnt have soul and charisma. Will Smith at the start of his career, Bill Paxtons speech, and Randy Quaids "up yours" proves a bit of charisma, and a good amount of soul.
