I've come to the conclusion that the movies he reviewed were more funny and entertaining than he was. He was just a middle man. His reviews were just a means to an end for getting those movies bigger exposure.

His 'review' of the Sesame Street movie 'Follow That Bird'. His earlier work, very early work, still seems to be pretty fun, mostly because I think he did it out of passion and goofy nostalgia.

Only review of his I've seen from start to finish was the one of The Lorax, and while that and anything from Illumination is incredibly low hanging fruit and it was stuffed to the brim with one cringeworthy gag after another, I'm delighted that someone with some kind of a following took a swing at them. Everything they've done has been indefensibly shitty from top to bottom and everyone involved should feel bad about it.

Oh yes, that episode was cute/funny, how he kept trying to make fun of it but felt guilty. He got really preachy with his new episodes.

Seriously, he was never ever funny. Spoony had his moments before his breakdown, and RLM can make me laugh pretty hard, but even they aren't funny all of the time. No one is.

I've watched like a dozen NC videos and only once has he ever so much as gotten a chuckle out of me, and that was when he was having that fake feud with AVGN, and he translated some message from him as "lick my shit, nostalgia critic" for some reason that made me chuckle. That's it. Nothing else he has ever said or done has ever so much as put a smile on my face. I should mention, AVGN has never made me laugh either, but I enjoy what he discusses and he seems like a nice guy even if I don't find his persona funny.

NC isn't just not funny though, he's anti-funny. His opinons are generally terrible, the bulk of his "humor" comes from just summarizing the plots of movies verbatim which frankly is barely above a reaction video, and the rest of it is him screaming, firing a pretend gun at the screen and similar to AVGN, saying naughty poopy words that makes the autistics too pee-pee in their pants.

That's not hyperbole either, something like 90% of this guy's fanbase has autism.

What would you call a guy who the majority of his relationships play out like this:

-Head over heels in love for two years.
-Suddenly the girl either becomes distant or announces she needs space and breaks up with him, or he simply founds out she cheated on him.
-One or two months later she comes crawling back, begging him to get back with her. He tells her something along the lines of "You know once a girl cheats on me I lose all feelings for them. Also, in the time since I found out, I got another girlfriend. Bye." and cuts contact with them forever.

Because that's what keeps happening to me. The depressing part is now that I'm entering my 30's, it's turned me into a "player" or whatever. I used to look down on guys who dated just to date, but now I do the whole "pair and a spare" thing. I'm casually dating three girls at the moment. Growing up I was always the guy who dated with the specific intent of marriage, but now I just don't fucking trust women anymore. I've gotten to the point where I date multiple girls so I won't be as hurt when one of them breaks it off, and I feel like a hypocrite, though in fairness none of them has the specific idea we're exclusive, I'm still technically cheating.

Nostalgia critic stopped being funny when he stopped trusting himself to carry his own show on his own material.
At some point, he got bored for doing NS reviews.
So what did he do?
He brought in other people to take up more time in his reviews.
He did side projects (which failed and no one liked) and then bitched about people not being interested in him 'evolving as a reviewer'. whatever the fuck that means.

Then, he went back to what made him money, NS, and he kept the same stupid formula his failed projects had, but this time for NS.
So, a 20 minute review turns into a 10 minutes review with 10 minutes of gags goofs and gaffs.
Or no review at all, just a musical routine with him in drag.(looking terrifyingly close to the original I might add)

So what happens when people aren't having as much fun watching that drivel?

Doug unfunny goes into full damage control mode by defeating a weak straw man of his detractors in the form of his old self, acts like his old videos were all worthless shit, and tried to tell you what you want all the while convinced that the same old jokes but now with hired actors performing them = progress and change, and therefor = good.

This is why I watch the red letter media guys every time I see a new video is up, their shit stands up without a shitload of interruptions.
The comedy in their videos is meant as a sort of break, to keep you interested, or more so as filler.
They also even make a point to seem as though "hey let's stop doing stupid shit for a minute and talk about movies!"
Whilst nostalgia critic uses the comedy routines as a crutch because he has no faith in his opinions or comedic timing to keep you from clicking off to a porn site and closing his shit videos.
The review never seems to start in an NS video anymore.
Hell, the Garfield review he did a while ago nearly made me vomit.
I am fucking shocked he expects people to sit through that shit just to get to a review.
Even the plinket reviews which are entirely done in character, with cut aways and gags have 100 times more review in them than the average NS video.(and way more interesting incite into the background and workings of the films being discusses in the case of the star wars/trek movies)

It kinda boils down to The Force Awakens came out and they pretty much ignored what shit it was.

I'm not sure if they got bought off to give a good review or if Mike has such a rage boner for Lucas he honestly believed Star Wars VII was good.

But people liked RLM because of Plinkett shitting on bad Star Wars movies (hell, he reviewed TFA's trailer and it was hilarious), so it's no surprise that when they stopped doing that they lost fans.
