I always thought the weightlessness of the weapon played into the "more elegant weapon for a more civilized time" shtick.
Would also explain them being able to deflect blaster fire, because it only takes a twitch of the write to reposition and move the blade. It should look effortless for two jedi to fight.

Also why does everyone in the movie just trust her simplicity? I re-watched it with Rifftrax and the flaws really stand out. The first time you see it, you're thinking "oh this is better than the prequels, actual stuff is happening and it's not Jar-jar or Jake Lloyd cringefest", so you kind of enjoy it…but all of that fades away when you actually think about it for a second. I found myself pointing out scenes that were lifted from the OT in huge chunks for nostalgia purposes.
