Haven't seen anything of Walking Dead past the second episode, but from everything I've seen it seems like the show focuses a lot more on relationship drama with the zombies just being in the background.

A lot of stories don't require a lot of things.

You can throw in a large variety of characters in a story to just let it feel a bit more varied than having everyone looking like a walking stereotype.

What people are complaining about in this thread even seems to be that The Walking Dead is showing characters who are really just flat stereotypes. Instead of having them be characters with a variety of characteristics, the writers got lazy and are probably just pushing the gay trait to the max so it feels like they're putting in something vaguely steamy for the women watching.
