Enough with red army marches, classical music or political rap, why don't we have an unironic /leftymu/-style thread where we literally just post non-political good music we like to listen to, so we could exchange favourites? This is not a thread for judging or showing off, post whatever genuinely resonates with you and appreciate what resonates with someone else, and perhaps find a new favourite.
I'd recommend not using youtube to upload fav music unless you manage to upload stuff so old or undergroud that it's absolutely guaranteed to not be under copyright.
How many people here just listen to straight up /mu/core with a few exceptions? I didn't even go to that board much yet my library is filled with it and it makes me feel like a fucking tool.
Robert Martin
I would like you to refrain from negative judgements ITT, user.
Porkies don't sing. You mean petit-bourg?
Had some flashbacks from music I used to be into 5 years ago, especially with the CoD playlist.
A Place To Bury Strangers? Dayummm son
I actually have a pretty pleb taste in music (Crystal Castles, Grimes, Mac Demarco, occasional indie rock) but I admire people who put lots of effort to build extensive libraries of favourite music. I personally just listen to stuff that sticks with me and sounds nice. I used to be more hardcore about music listening, now I just listen to music on headphones on two occasions - when I'm working on a graphic design-related personal project or when I'm drunk and need to keep up the mood. Can you link some of your favs?
We'll good to know I got you a nostalgia trip user, any specifics besides the CoD?
Jose Ward
Brooding synth-heavy new wave, fuzzy garage rock, edgy avant-garde jazz and inscrutable musique concrète.
Yes, I'm an art student.
Grayson Sullivan
Gave a short listen to each of your link, it sounds like nice stuff but I just don't have any connection with the bands because I've not heard of them before. CoD one reminded me of this one I heard in a game and listened the heck out of when I was 18-ish (youtube.com/watch?v=tYkcV-939b8) that's why I mentioned it.
Cool, I'm graphic designer and art school graduate myself. Are other kids on your course into same stuff? (also pls link something)
Angel Ramirez
Ok?
Hunter Williams
I really like modernist classical and jazz fusion.
Ethan Evans
I'm actually studying graphic design right now, though I already hold a degree in multimedia art. But not really, they're more into indie-type stuff I'm not too fond of. There's that brown qt who likes dub tho, and I'm a big fan of King Tubby.
Drum and bass, good other electronic music like dubstep, trap, neofunk & vaporwave, and also 90s skate and other punk like AFI, NOFX etc. Plus A7X before the drummer died was good, then they turned into a metallica ripoff.
Aiden Davis
plus indie music, foster the people, mgmt, the strokes, few obscure bands etc.
OP here, this thread has been such a great success, thank you so much who have been replying so far, have gotten many new recommendations to listen to. Posting one more song I'm really drawn to: youtube.com/watch?v=My4j3vgFxbE
Good playlists, I added some from these posts to my favourites to listen to later. Thanks anons, you have no idea how much these recs have helped me to find some new shit. Witch stuff reminds me of Radio X music from GTA San Andreas
Honestly though, I am a fan of Scottish folk artists like The Corries, Julie Fowlis, Aly Bane & Phil Cunningham ect. Thought considering their work is culturally scotsnat one could argue political involvement there.
If not them, then Simon and Garfunkel.
Noah James
I'm glad you liked that song. Feel free to post as much as you like, I'll visit this thread later and listen to almost every new link posted thus far.
I can see that all music carries some message about the political background of the country it was made at, but let's not get this far, OK? I think we can all agree that western, 1st world music is acceptable to be fond of, since it's so universal. Also, please link with YT to your particular favourites if you can.
youtu.be/6qWWgntTdO0 A beautiful original tune based on a Gaelic poem from WWI. Spoilers, the writer made it back home to his love, but they never married and he married another in 1922
youtu.be/hN7NfF73AHs Just a stereotypical tradition folk song (in a good way). Also I wrote a leftist version of this about international brigades.
