I’m Canadian, pic related is my gun collection, every single one of which took about 5 minutes to buy, and three of them are semi-auto just like an AR. They do one background check when you apply for a licence, and you pretty much have to be a convicted violent criminal to be denied. The laws that are actually stricter (like mag limits) are insanely easy to navigate. I could unpin any magazine in about half an hour with a file and five minutes with a grinder and have a 20 or 30 round magazine. Not to mention that the Czech laws are comparable to the US, with concealed carry and everything.

Even then, you would have to show that reducing access to guns reduces the overall murder rate, not just the gun murder rate. No shit people won’t be killed with guns if they can’t get them, but that doesn’t mean they won’t stab/beat/poison/strangle each other to death. If we look at that then it still doesn’t help your case. In Australia sweeping gun legislation didn’t have much impact on an already declining murder rate, what it did do was make it so that more murder were carried out with knives instead of guns.
